25.01.2022 Two red hens sit at Blackwood on private property. I imagine they are glad to be in good hands rather than have been sent to the scrappers many a year ago. Hard to believe someone may one day do something similar with the 3000 class of rail car. *just imagine there are fireworks photoshopped in the background for new years*

25.01.2022 Take your pick, 621 over Watson’s Gap! Definitely need to cover up that almost political looking graffiti...

25.01.2022 It’s good to be back! Here we see a 4000 class passing through Goodwood on a Seaford service.

22.01.2022 Amamoor and surrounds today. Fantastic work by the gang at Mary Valley Rattler for bringing this beautiful railway back to life for the past two years. Happy Birthday!

22.01.2022 Twin ALF’s sit at the head of a grain train at Snowtown. Both have One Rail logos. In the background can be seen some of the many windmills converting wind in to electricity. The train here sits on a branch off the main that today has a stop block not long after the silos, the line does continue for some time down the Yorke Peninsula however some sections are removed.

19.01.2022 We’ll call this one a draw!

19.01.2022 Interestingly enough, my car from 2018 insists that Gillman yard and associated sidings are still there. I believe they have been gone for almost 30 years, so it is an interesting thing to find on the map. This same courtesy didn’t extend to the Mile End Rail Yards. https://en.m.wikipedia.org//Dry_CreekPort_Adelaide_railwa

18.01.2022 A few photos from today's running session - the first full day of train ops over the Hills Line. The only photo's I grabbed where of a tour train on the Port branch. A very enjoyable session - thanks lads!

18.01.2022 A bit of fun for your Monday morning... Navigating the triple gauge behind the national railway museum.

18.01.2022 Currency Creek Bridge, South Australia. - flying within 5.5km of an unmanned airport is allowed, but one must immediately land if the air space becomes active. I had a shot lined up to capture the SteamRanger engine and carriage transfer, the sky looked clear, but as I was in position I heard it. The rumble of a plane engine filled the air and I had to immediately land. The sad part is, the pilot seemed to only be passing by as the air was soon void of plane sounds and I would have had time to position the drone again. Better safe than sorry I suppose.

17.01.2022 DL3 celebrates 60 years of service! 2021 marks 60 years since DL3 entered service with QGR. This loco was built by Walkers Ltd, Maryborough in 1961 for use on ...the unique Ethridge railway, west of Cairns. Since 1988 it has provided the society with an amazing shunting locomotive for our Rosewood Railway. Soon though some work will be required. Such as, a fresh coat of paint, wheel profile machining and fluid coupling seals. We are currently looking for people to assist, you can find a list of a wide range of positions available on our site. But mechanical/metalworking skills are of high priority. Feel free to contact us here https://www.rosewoodrailway.org.au/contact-us/ We are always looking for new faces to come along to our work days

16.01.2022 With Flinders Railway Station officially built. It is time for the obvious 1 billion dollar project that will never happen. The Hills Link. A junction that takes traffic from the hills directly to flinders and the south western part of town without having to go via the city. Which is the big problem with Adelaide, getting across the length of town is easy, but the width is a pain as you often have to go in to the city than back out. ... This could be built in coordination with an improved Tonsley junction station facility and of course, the revival of the Gaol Loop, allowing trains to go from North to South without the need to stop at Adelaide Railway Station. The Hills Link would increase patronage on trains within our suburban network as it would fill a gap in the network that has existed for some time as people going from the hills elsewhere would have a few transfers just to get to Flinders to study or be left with no choice but to drive. This link provides a faster alternative than travel via the city and would mean less cars on the road as well as less cars in those damn Flinders car parks. It also means people from the hills can easily transfer to a Seaford line train at the Tonsley junction station, cutting down travel time for them. Yes, it will never happen, but a better connected Adelaide is a good dream.

15.01.2022 The usual suspect...621 at Victor Harbor prepares to reverse after pulling ahead of today’s rather lengthy cockle train.

14.01.2022 H361, a lovely H type tram parked at the Glenelg Foreshore passing time as a cafe attraction/eat area(?) these days. Here is a little photo study of the old girl. I hope these photos not only bring joy, but perhaps inspire some of you to visit the cafe, which was sadly closed as I passed by on my evening run. Would have very much loved a little look around. With thanks to William Adams, H361 in service from 1929-2006.

12.01.2022 All I can say is WOW! Over 400 views on each video, amazing! Thank you so much everyone, if you haven’t already seen it, here is Rx 207 on the Cockle Train yesterday: SteamRanger, Cockle Train 2021 - Rx 207 ... https://youtu.be/2q65WZzlI_8

12.01.2022 One of the final movements of exhibits at the Museum prior to commencement of construction work on our new roof was the move of C10, which was carefully hand-wi...nched backwards a couple of metres to allow space for the builder to move various equipment. Back in February and March (see inset photo) our volunteers had spent many hours carefully preparing and lubricating all moving parts so that the locomotive could be moved if needed. It turned out to have been a very useful investment of their time! Keen eyes will note that C10's driving wheels have done a half revolution and, by chance, its motion and valve gear on the driver's (left) side are now in the aesthetically pleasing "rods down" position.

12.01.2022 A video of yesterday’s events is coming soon! I just have to wait until it processes up to 4K. I had a little West Highland Terrier with me and it turns out holding a microphone, phone AND a leash is a bit of a challenge. The new microphone is a treat and definitely improved the sound quality, I just have to work on designing a way to mount it to my big tripod so I can shoot much more stable video. Stay tuned in the next 24 hours for the video link

12.01.2022 And there we have it!! T222 restored to its former glory carrying a livery that only a handful of T vans wore. Many thanks go to all the volunteers who helped ...out through this extensive restoration, The Anonymous donor for making this possible, Paul Blake from Mort Signs for supplying the stencil stickers, Chris Pearce who supplied Paul with the artwork, Kelvin from Carboline Coatings for supplying all the paint, Shane Lennon for supplying all the timber, Peter Skilbeck and Michael Swyrydan for donating the Ice Troughs and Steamrail Victoria for supplying us with the roofing materials. A few final touches and fittings are needed before it’ll appear on our goods train, so keep an eye out for it the near future.

09.01.2022 Here's a quick recap of 2020 from President Bernie: "The CL17 restoration has progressed, but because of the obvious, a delay of six months will mean a probable... mid 2021 release to service. A big thank you to the usual gang of lunatics and all round good eggs who have dedicated their time this year to do what they could with what they had to deal with. Stuff got done! Thank you to all who donated financially as every red cent counts and its appreciated. Thank you to SSR for allowing the work to be done on CL17 on their leased turf at Cootamundra. In a nut shell, anyone who contributed can stand proud! From the mob at Streamliners Australia, we wish all of you and your families, a safe and Happy New Year and for a prosperous 2021." If you can spare a donation, the GoGetFunding page is still kicking along, and as Bernie said, every dollar counts towards getting CL17 out on the rails in mid 2021. https://gogetfunding.com/save-clp17-formally-cl17-last-emd/

08.01.2022 Last week we thought that the Ruston Diesel had a problem because the oil pressure was showing zero. We got the (original) pressure gauge checked by an expert a...nd it was fine. Eventually determined that the problem was a blocked pipe to the gauge. It was cleaned out this morning and the Ruston then got some exercise down the track. See more

01.01.2022 Anyone visiting Australian Modeller tomorrow for our unannounced model, will get a big surprise when they see our latest layout on display in a purpose build do...uble sided glass cabinet. The HO Scale NSW prototype layout was constructed over 3 years by master modellers, Ian Phemister, Alan Tarrant & Len Bowley. All the track & points are hand laid, structures & super detail items are scratch built and just about everything else has been hand crafted. Auscision trees, vehicles, locomotives, rolling stock & CTC signals can also be seen on the layout. There is even 1/87 Scale figures of the Auscision boys along with Ian, Alan, Len and many of their friends. The layout is a permeant part of the shop for all to view and enjoy for many years to come. We have shared some photos of the layout with this post, but it really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the level of detail that has gone into it. We cannot thank Ian, Alan & Len enough for all of the hard work they have put into this layout, and look forward to them starting on our next project. (Something in N or O). From all at Auscision Models & Australian Modeller.
