22.01.2022 Happy Buddah and his noodle bowl I bought my first Buddah when I was about 16yrs old while working at Coles in Mandurah and he has followed me around for the past 34 years living in many gardens along the way while I have collected many others...he weighs a ton and needs a coat of paint but I just love him #namaste

18.01.2022 Some more lovely platters and dip bowls made in the last handbuilding class well done ladies they look gorgeous

18.01.2022 Step #5 Glaze Firing: Finally got my mugs glazed after having a few minor problems with the glaze bubbling in a previous firing (It's not always a successful firing) and i was busy finishing a few classes work and apart from packing I was also enjoying myself a little too much at a music festival (priorities). I havnt gone through the actual glaze application process or the mixing of a glaze which is a big job. You can apply glaze in a few different ways there is brushing, d...ipping, pouring or spraying. You need to keep the glaze clear off the bottoms with wax so they don't fuse to the kiln shelf and you need to make sure it's not too thick or thin. Glaze melts at high temperatures and turns into a glass surface because it contains silica as well as lots of other ingredients. These were fired to around 1230. Mixing your own glazes is a big learning experience you need to know a bit of chemistry and mathematics and OH&S. The process of crafting a piece of art is not a quick easy process and it's not always guaranteed success. See more

16.01.2022 Some jugs and coffee keep cups.. hopefully I can find some lids to match these have a little indent where you can place your thumb for easier grip

15.01.2022 These beautiful platters were created in the handbuilding workshop this morning..so many clever creative people in our region

15.01.2022 When your feeling stressed..

15.01.2022 Here comes little Kitty the Gas kiln. My plan is to convert this to a soda kiln and have fun experimenting with fire and the atmospheric effects of soda she looks a little scared moving to a new home after 20yrs at the same place but hopefully I can get her burning again soon

13.01.2022 Planter Pots in the beautiful morning sun

12.01.2022 A cute Sugar bowl for the sweet tooth..who has a spoon or 2 in their cuppa? The little wooden spoons were handcrafted in Bali.. (I think my kids loved me dragging them around the markets looking for more spoons) #ilovebali #imissbali

12.01.2022 My first attempt at a wheel thrown juicer..it's not perfect but hey it's handmade and not made in an industrial plastics factory

11.01.2022 Glaze tests for the 4 day workshop. These dipping glazes are made with between 7 - 11 ingredients each and it's not always guaranteed. Safety procedures and PPE are required to mix glazes as there is a lot of dust you do not want to breathe in or get into a cut. #glazetest

09.01.2022 I buggered up the shape of this pot so I covered it in coloured slip and gave it a textural finish.

07.01.2022 Loving this platter and dip bowl made by Michelle and Jo in the last handbuilding class.#rusticart #countryliving

06.01.2022 Check out all this lovely pink..pink flowers, pink glaze #ilovepink

06.01.2022 Step 4. The mugs are dried completely now, i had to fix a few little hairline cracks near the handle joins with a wet paintbrush but not major.. it's best to do that before it goes in for the 1st bisque fire. These could have been fired yesterday but I had a workshop in the morning and watched the AFL Grand final instead .. Its a game of clay tetris trying to fit everything into the kiln. This firing its ok to stack things and let them touch each other. The bisque fire heats... slowly up to around 1000C and takes around 12hrs in this small kiln. It will then need about another 14hrs to cool down enough to open. Next step will be the application of glaze... I have set an alarm on the kiln so when it reaches a certain degrees I swap the bungs over. The bungs are plugs in the side of the kiln where you can take a peek at the witness cones and can help with a bit of circulation when there is no venting system. The fumes that come from a firing are quite toxic so it's best to steer clear while it's doing it's thing. See more
