25.01.2022 I found a new queen. My stud queen has been superceded.

25.01.2022 Im getting ready for more queens and a trip to restock lost materials.

23.01.2022 Queens are available on www.kiqueenbees.com.au

22.01.2022 Think about this people. The infected rate will soon become a million in a week or so......One month later the infected will be One Billion. 6 weeks away!... Of course all the variables have to act in a certain way to get there, and, it may be weeks later still or not at all. Anyway today I braced myself for the rock pool. Cold! Id never make a Russian ice swimmer. Got the 20 laps over with, and, didnt feel cold when I got out because I had no feeling, anyway, ok and went to the supermarket for retail therapy. Got what I wanted as I was bouyed by a message from centrlink, and, thinking I was about to be rich with a backpaid pension windfall, spent a bit. Why do I believe in such things? Not happening. Something to do with farm help which I was on in September.....bugger! But the good news is I found some honey in some hives.....so Ill hoard the nectar with a flood of hungry bees into the area. Got to extract honey tomorrow. See more

21.01.2022 Getting some queens. Fresh nectar, pollen, and young brood auger well for future productive hives. I send the queens with escorts, that was for the photo shoot.

21.01.2022 Apparently we have an AFB outbreak on KI. This event would need to be independently audited in order to expose the corruption that exists between the status q...uo and the sycophants it serves. Also testing is going on for small hive beetle. Big deal. No wonder our country is stuffed when budgets have to have an excuse to squander money when AFB would be better served on the mainland. Really after the fires, drought , and the stress of covid 19, I doubt if AFB has spread on KI. I doubt it actually exists on KI. What a great time to be opening hives when its cold and wet. See more

20.01.2022 I'm back in the fight. I went to Adelaide and bought a lovely brand new container, high cube with a lovely shiny floor. I also looked at retail units made ...from containers. I've been though the grinder, say no more, but afb here like WMDs in Iraq, will be as I said before fake news. I now have my life back, and, although I suffered some collateral damage, will be back in full swing with queen bees, and, live bees, and, all things bee, again this Spring. The best thing from the fires here was grant money so I could buy a container. I had to get one 5 years ago but never had the money, and then, after lots of interference over the last 5 years, never had the motivation to get one. The island is fairly stuffed for honey production and the trees will take years to bloom again. But my business doesn't need honey flows. See more

19.01.2022 What I've found out about the AFB outbreak is that it occurred in a honey sample which was made from a conglomerate of other beekeepers because they were sharin...g the same extracting plant. My solution would be to inspect those apiaries and see if AFB is visually present or not. I'd take more samples for AFB prognosis. Keep an eye on the hives so examined to see if AFB occurs. Deal with any visual infections of AFB. Case closed. This has nothing to do with me. However if my PIRSAcutor wants to go through my hives then so be it. Do it! But don't drag me through his psycho stuff about offences this and that. He can of course. It's his job. But I can't go with him anymore because my life is on hold and the trauma is similar to the fires we had. I just didn't know if my place was going to survive. Well I did survive with say 20 minutes to spare, because the wind changed the direction of the fire front and it cooled off and started to rain. So I was saved. But all this PIRSAcution stuff has just thrown me into turmoil again. I had his nonsense 5 years ago, and, lived with the fear that he could turn up unannounced at any time. Well I don't have staff, infrastructure and money to have a lovely business, with his approval, in bees. Perhaps I shouldn't have ever started in bees. Maybe in the future I might find myself up North thinking bees and reflecting on what has happened here as just a bad experience. See more

19.01.2022 The rebuilding commences. Some sugar gum.

19.01.2022 Herewith a few cup gum not burnt out. 30 to 40 kilos of honey now in each of the hives. Rebuilding burnt out stuff. On the 6way nuc bottoms are little charcoal bits from the fires.

19.01.2022 So sad, so sad, sometimes I feel so sad, alone, in this wasteland, I feel so sad. Black and burnt, black and burnt, black and green, thats different! ... Daliesque. But wait! There are bees in there. Not happy bees, but bees still. Hmmmmm! I have a few queens on standby. Maybe 8 to 12 nucs, move to tea tree 80 kilometres away. And use these hives as worm farms to process black combs, as the hardware doesnt sell my style of compost bins. Two problems solved. Done! No more lamenting the Medeaeval tragedy of decaying progress of time. Onwards and upwards. See more

18.01.2022 New shoots. It is a relief to see these as Im not familiar with these species under fire stress. How soon for flower buds?

17.01.2022 What woild have been a great honey flow, bit these hives missed the fires north and south.

15.01.2022 This is interesting.....got this up but how? A few days ago I couldnt find my car keys. When Id given up and was thinking of something else, my right hand reached out and found the keys....weird subconscious stuff I guess. Same with this pc operator.

15.01.2022 For those who are curious about our propolis from Kangaroo Island.

15.01.2022 Bees after sugar syrup feeding. They need pollen too for protein.

14.01.2022 If the numbers were beehives infected with AFB how would things be differently treated compared to humans infected with Corona virus?

14.01.2022 Ill keep this in mind.

13.01.2022 Well its about 4a.m. and rather than stew in my thoughts and go mad Ill put myself out there in FB land and let other minds consider my plight. On Saturday ...as myself and my PIRSAcutor did the rounds of my hives it was put to me this proposition. The empty hive materials might have AFB spore in them. I cant prove they havent. So the material will have to be destroyed or irradiated. Since PIRSAcutor hasnt offered to pay me for the irradiation through the government then in a sense Im being fined a lot of money and time getting this through Steritech in Melbourne. I have the empty materials because weve had a dreadful season backed by smoke and fires. Logically if I could get live bees into the empty materials then all would be fine because then we play a waiting game to see if AFB breaks out, which in my opinion it wont. See more

11.01.2022 Bee collecting pollen from Bertya rotundifolia, and Acacia longifolia not ready.

10.01.2022 Hello little fellow. I get these all the time in under my hives.

10.01.2022 Some hives going well for 11C.

10.01.2022 Some trees were missed by the fire. Bees building up for flow frames.

09.01.2022 Played DA with the council today. I want it this way. Cant be done that way. What about 2 spaced apart with a roof linking them? No, not there. Houses... face that way, therefore a non house cant, especially sideways exposing the whole length. But I want a cheap fence, and, it takes up some fence line then I dont need to fence that bit. No you cant have it lengthwise. But I want a wind break too, so my bananas dont freeze, and have a wall to bask in radiant heat. You cant have it your way, its the rule. Where can it go? Over here in the corner. You have 3 years to clad it in colourbond/painted corrugated sheet steel. Why? So it looks like a shed. But everyone knows what it really is so why bother with the pretence. It has to be clad, thats the rule. What colour are you thinking of? Yellow. That would need some consideration before approval if at all. What about grey with sunflowers growing against the wall? That would be ok. But the sunflowers are yellow, so do I need permission for the colour? No. What if I painted sunflowers on the grey wall? No answer because I only thought this. I wont even broach the AFB nonsense Im going through here as I want to sleep well. More grant time first thing in the public service morning hours. Seriously though with our economy in tatters, one would think some latitude in restrictions would be in order. See more

09.01.2022 A not too bad nuc for our dry, burnt out conditions. Beekeking and gardening go together.

09.01.2022 Cool but sunny day here. Some hives bouncing back after the fires/drought.

08.01.2022 I scraped off 3 kilos of propolis. Got me thinking. What if i mixed propolis into the sugar syrup/agisea mix? Would it help combat bee nasties?

08.01.2022 So today I will seek help because Im not happy with myself alone. I will face my pain rather than try and stop it permanently. What has happened to me is a... crisis but over time I will sort it out. The fear of the unannounced visits is like the old Soviet style knock on the door. Im tired of the dry mouth, the uncertainty of my plans, so I will seek out help. Quite frankly Im exhausted. See more

08.01.2022 It's good news week. After two sessions with my PIRSAcutor, and, an invitation for some pugilistic fisticuffs after a game of bowls yesterday,AND, the agony of unknown consequences if I buy a truck, well a little truck, AND, the prospects of a crap season continuing BUT with some hope now of rain and cup gum, little ole me is the flavour of the month!!!!!! yeah! Vindication at last.

06.01.2022 Just sayin before I leave I will have my place tidied up. I dont need a beekeeper with a pony tail in a ute driving my way with hives registered with an H. I may be paranoid, wrong in my assumptions, or, I may be right but whatever, I will prevail, and , IT WILL BE DONE!

05.01.2022 AFB plus EFB, add some beetles into the mix, and, level the playing field, equals little shit fights morph into big shit fights. Oh well happiness lieth in a ...grant from the grubberment. Heres hoping. I did my 7klms walk today, and, the burnt trees are not looking good.....too hot when the fire came through. Also new leaves are getting eaten away. Xanthorrhea about to flower though. Weather looks like warm Northerlies for the week. Bees can fly and work the flowers. See more

04.01.2022 Ill be doing queens again this Spring. Im not going to let a bit of hysteria about AFB, Covid19, asteroids, loss of oxygen, Bill Gates, nano things, PIRSAcu...tors get in my way. No sirs, I will prevail with my grafting device, and, keen bees raring to do their stuff. Good night yall. See more
