24.01.2022 Halfway through TERM 4!! Well I can’t believe Thursday is here again! This term is flying by and you know we’ve had 13 new mums and bubs come to Kanga with us that’s just magic The beauty of Kanga is that as long as you’ve had a medical clearance to resume exercise, and you’re either 6 weeks following a natural birth or 12 weeks following a c-section, you can start Kanga with us anytime! There’s no blocks or contracts, so you can come to class knowing that if you’ve had ...a bad night with bub or going on holiday, it’s ok to miss a week! We’re always here waiting to welcome you back Mums, send us a message if you have ANY questions about what we do at Kanga. This year’s focus for RUOK Day is helping family and friends build confidence and develop skills around continuing the conversation with someone who might be struggling. The greatest gift you can give someone is your time and actively listening to their stories, showing empathy, patience and asking questions. Importantly, continue to check in and encourage action - maybe you can suggest they reach out to local suppor...t networks like their GP, counsellor, HeadSpace, Beyond Blue or psychologist, or expand their connections with other friends and family. The most important thing is that support doesn’t end after you’ve asked RUOK? Together we can support our community and lift each other up

09.01.2022 Kanga Tomorrow - Self Care Saves! Does anyone ever feel like they’re devoting HUGE amounts of time to the needs of their family? Or that you put the needs your loved ones before yourself? That you sometimes stay at home because it is just so much easier to avoid going out? It’s an easy habit to get into. Using your own energy to constantly ensure the household chores are under control, the kids are totally taken care of and well just EVERYTHING! Especially when babies are st...ill little, they need so much of your time and attention, it’s hard to imagine venturing out of the house sometimes! It is so vital that you take time out to do things that you actually enjoy! Our emotional burdens as mums are seriously big loads to carry. So it’s critical that you find ways to nourish your soul, spending time on activities that truly entertain you and fill you with joy! To self-care is actually the first step to caring for those around you too. That’s why I always say that Kanga is more than a postnatal workout. It becomes an outlet for mums to engage in conversation and to support each other through this motherhood journey. Kanga is FUN and releases feel good hormones like oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins! 03.01.2022 What's the next best thing to being a Kangatraining instructor?? Facilitating Kangatraining sessions for the next amazing group of Kangatrainers!! My role was to guide these awesome mummas through all of our practical components (floor and standing exercises, as well as DANCE tracks!!!), including all of the technical background that underpins every Kangatraining class. The "WHY" to what we do in Kangatraining exercises ensures that our participants experience postnatal safe,... supportive and enjoyable classes. 02.01.2022 TERM 4 AND A LITTLE MORE Having spent time recently with our new Kangatraining instructor group, (many with new babies themselves), it reinforced for me the need for people to have connection. So many new mums feel isolated, vulnerable and depleted. We are exhausted, hormonal, unsure and SO sleep deprived (did I already mention exhausted??!). While routine with a new baby is important, especially with ensuring they get their sleep, it is so easy to seek refuge within the w...alls of your own home . I remember not answering phone calls week after week, because I didn't want to say no to friends asking me to join their mums' group activities. If I didn't answer the phone at least I wouldn't have to explain that I wasn't really coping that well. I was feeling pretty lonely, down and overwhelmed, but also so, so worried that if I took the baby out, it would wreck the whole day's routine and I would continue to struggle with this baby who came without a manual. My journey to becoming a Kangatrainer really eventuated from these experiences of anxiety and isolation as a new mum. We were living in remote Mt Isa and while we had loads of awesome friends, there was little to do aside from mums' group catch ups. When I saw the potential of a postnatal fitness class to not only meet the social needs of new mums, but to also support their emotional and physical health I knew that this program was a winner! Having had my 3 children and experienced that emotional rollercoaster, I realised that it was time to give back and support mums in their own postnatal journey, providing more options than I had with my own babies!! We are now 6 years down the Kangatraining Toowoomba path, and I am continually blown away by the awesome mums we have in our community and the beautiful friendships that blossom through our shared experiences. Kanga is SO much more than a fitness class. You need to come and try a class to really understand what we mean by Kanga community.
