21.01.2022 CREATING CONVEX DISTORTION ARTWORKS: Do you know what convex distortion is? The apparent effect is that of an image which has been mapped around a sphere. Fisheye lenses utilise this type of distortion as a way to map an infinitely wide object plane into a finite image area. Year 9 Visual Arts students explored this phenomenon as the subject matter for their most recent paintings and produced some amazing results!

18.01.2022 MAGPIE SEASON: In Australia, the magpie is either loved or loathed. The months from August to November are Magpie swooping season and Year 9 Visual Arts have been exploring this in canvas painting.

16.01.2022 ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE: As the official NAIDOC Week celebrations begin, Karabar High School acknowledges Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people - our country's first explorers - the owners of the very first footprints on this continent! (Karabar's NAIDOC assembly will be held on 4 December.)

15.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020

11.01.2022 MONKEY BAA GIBBERISH: On Tuesday, drama students participated in a fantastic drama workshop run by Michael from Monkey Baa Theatre Company. Students spoke gibberish and learnt how to develop scenes by focusing on using facial expression, tone, and body language. Students were very supportive of each other which enabled everyone to develop their confidence quickly. There was a lot of laughter and applause!

09.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS CLASS OF 2020! Whilst the class of 2020 had what many might say was a challenging year, they have completed their formal years of schooling with dignity and grace. They can proudly say that they weathered the COVID storm and made it through to the end. They can also tell their grandchildren that they were the first graduating class of Karabar who had their final assembly live-streamed to family and friends. We wish the class of 2020 all the best as they tackle their HSC exams and embark on the next phase of their lives.

08.01.2022 GRAPHICS TECHNOLOGY FURNITURE DESIGN: Year 9 Graphics Technology students have been using CAD software this semester to create and manipulate 3D rendered images of furniture designs. Each component had to be drawn separately and then assembled together. From there exploded views were created as well as animations showing the item from a number of angles. - https://drive.google.com//1zje9jsCviuScwLuk9mFB9nj_Y/view - https://drive.google.com//1TeXunsRPE7GxeBkzbDB573v6V/vie...w - https://drive.google.com//1FEe9QskUIPHLTOvud4592Iy5L/view - https://drive.google.com//1DM8ovfIkHemqTv03_XZIvrMiG/view See more

06.01.2022 NRL ALAN TONGUE 9s: Yesterday, fourteen Year 7 and 8 boys competed in the Alan Tongue 9s Cup at the Dickson Playing Fields in Canberra. The boys won all four of their games to progress into the grand final where they went down to St Edmunds College. Congratulations to the boys on an outstanding effort!

03.01.2022 CLASS OF 2020 FINAL DAYS: Over the last few days, Year 12 have been winding down - or wrapping up - their formal school days. Yesterday they had a day out at Kingpin in Canberra and today they have had some fun with their celebration day and soccer against staff (students won 1-0). Whilst COVID means they now come back to school for one more week next term, the countdown is well and truly on! EDIT: VAR evidence (ie, Mr Gregson) shows that the score today was, in fact, 0-0!

03.01.2022 STAFF WIN AGAIN! Staff won convincingly today in Staff vs Year 12 Netball. Quick passing, machine-like efficiency and coordination in their teamwork gave staff the edge (the height difference also helped). Next week there will be more Staff vs Year 12 events, with something on each day for everyone to test their skills and have a bit of fun.

02.01.2022 TASTE OF LANGUAGES RUNNERS UP: During the holidays, Haley and Alanah (Year 11) won second price in the 'Taste of Languages' competition, run by the ACT Bilingual Education Alliance. The girls created a video explaining how to make two kinds of sushi. Congratulations girls!

01.01.2022 PDHPE ASSESSMENT = FUN! It's not often that the words assessment and fun appear in the same sentence, but that was definitely the case yesterday as Year 7 completed their practical assessment task at Wright Park. Amongst other activities, students demonstrated their offensive and defensive skills in games of 'snatch'!
