21.01.2022 I often use the Iceberg analogy in session, especially with PTSD. But it can also be used for anxiety and depression. Above the waterline is the Conscious Mind:... things and symptoms we are consciously aware of: the physical symptoms in our body, nightmares, avoidance behaviours, phobias, our moods and behaviour. Below the waterline is the Subconscious Mind: the hidden memories and traumas that we're not consciously aware of: past abuse, traumatic events and experiences. Sometimes things on the surface can trigger these hidden memories. Triggers can include smells, sounds, people or events. It's a good reminder that a lot of our emotional health is happening " under the surface ". With Therapy you can bring these issues to the surface, in a safe and supportive environment. See more

15.01.2022 Is your family coping after the Queensland bushfires? There are many common immediate effects that a family may experience: Spouses/parents may be irritable o...r intolerant, leading to friction and misunderstanding between themselves and their children. Children and teenagers can begin to seek attention or act disobediently, which usually means they are anxious or fearful. Family members' feelings for each other may change as they become more detached or preoccupied with their own problems and reactions. Family members may try too hard to help others and ignore their own needs. Family members' work or school performance and concentration levels may suffer. Spouses' sexual relationship may change. Family members may lose interest in leisure, recreation, sport or social activities. Teenagers may look outside the family for emotional support. Immediate post-disaster responses may continue or appear for the first time. It’s important to know, no matter what issues arise, these are all normal reactions to an event that has affected the whole family.
