21.01.2022 So we had a 4th birthday party today and had a crack at the infamous Bluey @officialblueytv and @womensweeklymag Duck Cake! I think it went down well but I’m not too sure about his cake cutting technique haha! 20.01.2022 "It's amazing how my greatest source of chaos can also be my greatest source of peace." I can't get enough of the love that oozes out of this photo - this to me is that perfect moment of peace before the chaos of having a little newborn! Your baby is safe and close and you can feel their movements and make guesses as to what they do and don't like from their little wiggles and kicks. You're not sure if there's a boy or a girl in there (I love surprises so we didn't find out ...with either of our boys!) but you might have a feeling one way or the other. You're getting uncomfortable but while you're starting to wish its all over and done with you also want that baby to stay put until it's good and ready! So much going on and then when the baby finally arrives the peaceful moments are no less intense and love filled but most of them are decidedly less quiet then they are in this photo! Getting pregnant and having a baby is such a privilege, it's something that you take for granted when you are younger. Your social circle is also younger and you haven't really been exposed yet to the stories of loss that your Mums generation have all shared, and until either you or someone close to you has experienced that heartbreak of losing a pregnancy or a child it's hard to imagine that things won't go as perfectly as they should for you. I have a number of incredible women close to me that have gone through many types of struggle, conception struggles, early loss struggles, loss well past the danger zone of 12 weeks, baby's born sleeping that only days before were as perfectly live as you or I, losing a baby not long after birth to a condition that none of us had ever heard of and losing a child you thought was well past any risk in a tragic accident. All of these tragedies have changed the shape of my heart to make me the mother, friend and photographer that I am today. 20.01.2022 When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls!" Ted Grant There's something about a black and white snapshot that always captures my attention and draws me in! I developed a passion for charcoal drawing in high school and while admittedly it's been a while since I've gotten my drawing kit out it's definitely something I want to come back to. In the meantime I keep my soul happy... by giving my clients a black and white option to their images. Like this one. It's equal parts fierce and feminine and I couldn't love it more if I tried! This is Bec summed up in one photo and I'm so lucky that this strong and determined woman has become such a good friend! Le Shan Having a baby is one of those things that I think most of us grow up thinking will just happen easily, we watch our family and extended family grow and it just happens without us knowing any of the trials and tribulations that are going on in the background. As we get older we start to hear whispers of loss until it happens to us, or our sisters, our cousins or our friends.... I think the realisation that this whole process is fragile and fraught with risks the whole way through makes it even more incredible when the moment finally arrives and you are holding your baby in your arms. 13.01.2022 ON THE DAY OF YOUR SHOOT... Family photoshoots take 60-90 minutes generally. We start between 3-6pm for the best light and for sunset shoots we start an hour and half before sunset. I suggest we hold sessions around your childs sleep and when they are happiest first and foremost (so if you need a morning shoot for your little one, an early morning start time can be arranged). I will take time getting to know your child and getting them used to me and my camera, so don't w...orry if it seems like your child is being too cheeky - building rapport and checking the back of the camera to make sure they are also happy with the photos, helps to make them comfortable. To get the best from your kids, sometimes the shoot might seem chaotic but you can rest assured that I am always getting the shot. I will do whatever it takes to get your family to be comfortable and natural around me! Your shoot will be a balance of still quiet portraits and letting the kids be themselves and have fun. My favourite photo to capture is the cheeky grin that lets you know your child is up to mischief and I love images that are more candid, so I will usually ask you to play, cuddle and have fun with your kids while I shoot around you, for me to capture that perfect family shot. https://offers-karenallambyphotography.com/vip-connect

08.01.2022 Do you ever look at old photos of yourself and wonder where did that person go? This one of me was taken at my very first ever wedding of two of my besties and oh my gosh the things I would tell that girl!! As I sit here trying to sneak in some work while my 2yr old climbs all over me, does beautiful drawings on all my post its and is just generally a cheeky menace I can't believe how much I've learnt and changed over the past 10 years! ... And I'm super grateful that I have photos like this to remind me (thanks Prue Duncan for being my second shooter that day!), they bring back all the feels and remind me why this is what I choose to do. 07.01.2022 Have you spent time thinking about the best place to hold your shoot? At Home is best for newborns and small children as it is less stress to pack up and everything (including clothing choices) are at your fingertips. Toddlers and babies tend to be confident and more outgoing in their own environment. Your home does not have to look like something out of Vogue, you might be surprised where I find perfect spots for photos! We will use rooms with good natural light as well a...s verandahs and outdoor areas. On Location is best for older children, or bigger families, unless you have an outdoor area at home that can acomodate everyone. Choose your favourite beach, farm, urban or park locations. Time is important to consider with the light and the crowds, especially for beach sessions (these must be done early morning or late afternoon, which is my preference!). I am happy to do location shoots at your favourite places but if you need some suggestions I have found some stunning locations over the years and am very happy to recommend them!! 07.01.2022 "The greatest gift our parents gave us was each other" This is one of my favourite moments out of Han and Nath's entire shoot - how adorable is that little reach up to kiss the bubba?! I think that sometimes in our busy lives we forget what a massive impact the act of adding to our family actually is to our older children. We are taking their little lives from something that is almost exclusively focused on them and bringing in someone new that not only takes up all of Mum an...d Dad's time and energy but initally isn't very fun to play with either! I know when our second baby came we were super blessed that our oldest could not get enough of the baby! He turned into the sweetest little helper and just wanted to cuddle his new brother all the time! I know the transition isn't always that smooth but I hope that if this is the stage that you are up to right now, that your journey is as full of joy as ours was! 04.01.2022 "The Love of a Family is Life's Greatest Blessing" Bec's maternity session was on a stinking hot January afternoon and she was such a trooper! In and out of dresses, a smoky haze all around, and up and down out of their big ute - it probably wasn't ideal for someone just a few shot weeks from meeting their babe. However I think that smile on her face says it all, this is baby #3 for Bec and her family and from what she's said, a little bit of a surprise, but they were all s...o excited and happy and couldn't wait to meet this new addition to their family! There are many blessings in life but I think this one is my favourite! We were so tired this weekend that my little Mr woke up a bit grumpy from his nap and it wasn’t until we started being silly that he lightened up into his usual sweet self! I absolutely cherish these photos but I can’t tell you how much I’m hanging out for the family photo shoot that I’m planning! ...
