25.01.2022 Check out these beautiful beautiful inks made with Golden rod and Butterfly pea flowers

24.01.2022 My desk at present... and this is not even half the colours I have made. I. Have. A. Problem I am making some swatches so I can test the light fastness of the colours.

24.01.2022 This was a wild Friday night over the weekend - painting flowers with potatoes, carrots and toilet paper rolls Part of @estemacleod free online course Colour Play. Very inspiring, well worth a look if you need some creative inspiration https://www.estemacleod.com/explore-colour

24.01.2022 Flashback Friday... I made this wreath for my sister for her special surprise wedding last year. Made from my apple tree branches and roses from a local garden. I was always meant to post a picture of it, this is how long it has taken me haha

23.01.2022 Fly free little bird. Botanical inks with some teal acrylics sneaking in. I am sort of obsessed with colour and where it comes from these days. I read a really interesting article in the National Geographic yesterday about YinMn blue, the first artificial blue pigment to be discovered in over 100 years. Sorry but that just blows my mind anybody else find that fascinating? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/YInMn_Blue

23.01.2022 Some serious colour experiments happening tonight. I am making colour swatches of all my botanical inks to test their light fastness. How exciting!

23.01.2022 Colour sample, I like this one it combines earth, metals and plants. Painted with rock pigment, copper oxide, blackberry and pine cone ink

22.01.2022 Finally busted out my microscope to draw pollen grains how could I have not noticed how pretty cape gooseberry flowers are before? So delicate.

21.01.2022 So... some people may know that Greg and I have bought a block. We are moving in 2 weeks. This block has a very special orchard on it, guess how many avocado trees we have now? And of course... avocado skins and pips make beautiful inks! How lucky for me! Here is my first avocado ink sample. You better prepare yourselves for many more! We are gonna have a lot of avocados!

21.01.2022 This bee was painted with oak gall ink and coloured pencils. Oak gall ink has been used since the 5th century and is still used to sign birth, death and marriage certificates in the UK apparently. It’s made from the galls that form in oak trees when parasitic wasps lay their eggs in soft new growth. The gall grows and the little wasp hatches and burrows out. The galls are high in tannic acids, which when iron sulphate is added turns black. Who knew I would love chemistry so much One day.

20.01.2022 Detail from my recent botanical ink ‘caught in the winds of time’. What a beautiful day!

19.01.2022 When your veggies become art... glass gem corn, thanks @roccas_garden for the seed

19.01.2022 Avocado pips & skins, Sydney golden wattle, fuschia, alum, soda ash and iron

19.01.2022 Shadow of a carrot woman

18.01.2022 Orchids basking in the morning light

17.01.2022 Today is a day to make some pigments I think these rocks were found at my parents farm... strewn across the paddock. They originally came from a quarry in Mt Barker. They are soft and porous sedimentary rock - good for making paint with.

17.01.2022 A drawing made entirely with my home made charcoal and inks. Drawn with charcoal I made from my grapevine and ink I made from pear tree roots. I am amazed at how nice the charcoal was to draw with, how nice it looks and how easy it is to actually make. Does anyone make their own papers? Thats all I need to do now to make this work completely home made happy Monday everyone!

17.01.2022 Up next for my ink making experiments - some fuschia ink! I have been collecting and drying fuschia flowers for a while now, soon I should have enough to do a test run. This photo is not modified in any way - can you believe that colour is real?!

16.01.2022 This is getting a make over today... its getting dark, its getting messy, its getting WILD

15.01.2022 And another one. Because I just cant help myself

15.01.2022 Has anyone heard of enso circles? I am addicted to them. This one is rather beautiful, painted on a background of pelargonium, purple dahlia, rhubarb and golden rod ink

15.01.2022 And here’s the full version... she just keeps on growing. Finished yet? Who knows

14.01.2022 Something lovely to think about

14.01.2022 It’s the beginning of the holidays...what should I do with all my TIME?!

14.01.2022 What a beautiful day to spend in the garden! I am getting ready to put in the next seasons crops, under the watchful eye of goaty. What has everyone got going into their patches this season? Any interesting varieties?

14.01.2022 Just spent the whole weekend eco-dying on paper and book binding with @argentkerrie @jayni_jayne and @greatsouthernworkshops amazing, I can’t wait to integrate these techniques into my artworks. Have a great Monday everyone!

13.01.2022 All my botanical ink colour swatches have been stuck to the wall over a month now, half covered so I can test how light fast they are. This will help me know how the colours change over time, so I can be more confident painting with these inks. I like the fact that they will change - like a living artwork. But its just a matter of knowing how they are going to change, so I can manage expectations of people who might want to buy.

12.01.2022 Beautiful patterns in a fallen trees bark. I think it was a Sheoak. Amazing.

12.01.2022 My inspiration in the studio tonight - some almond blossoms

11.01.2022 Latest botanical ink ‘caught in the winds of time’. What can you see?

11.01.2022 Monday mandala. This was made by printing with various leaves, pussy tails, sticks and stems, then drawing in details with my beloved Tombow pens hope you have a fantastic Monday!

11.01.2022 Come, little leaves," said the Wind one day, "Come to the meadows with me and play. Put on your dresses of red and gold; For Summer is past, and the days grow cold. George Cooper. What a beautiful little verse. Can you believe my apple tree is still holding onto its leaves? Its outside my art room so I have been picking them up and painting them how are your fruit trees looking?

10.01.2022 Can you believe this? This is just a colour swatch of butterfly pea flower I did... as it dried it created this awesome pattern these three colours just seemed to go together - butterfly pea, purple dahlia and saffron

10.01.2022 Closed in a room, my imagination becomes the universe, and the rest of the world is missing out. -Criss Jami

09.01.2022 Nature’s mandala... the proteas are flowering

09.01.2022 Painting this afternoon we had a lot of paint left over, so we used it all up with some crazy experiments. Added a little ink and I am happy with this little drawing/painting the raven is for @ros_lilanthe

09.01.2022 I have been trying to make a mandala to bless our new block. But every time I have tried it’s been too windy. Last time I got so frustrated I gave up, and stuck this little flower in the cracks of a dead log. Some kind of a message in it for me - simplicity is a powerful force can anybody else relate to that?

07.01.2022 Inspiring or depressing? I can’t decide! Out of Elyne Mitchell’s book ‘The Silver Brumby’. My favourite growing up.

07.01.2022 Bee painted with Marigolds

07.01.2022 Almond blossom inspired mandala love the almond blossom colour palette, softest pinks, darkest reds, zingy green and snowy white against ice blue winter skies

06.01.2022 A delicious blob of botanical ink. This is a little colour sample of blackberry, butterfly pea flower, nightshade berry and golden rod ink. I love making these colour samples at night, then hopping up in the morning to see how they dried. Just like Christmas for me

06.01.2022 Our mother who art underfoot Hallowed be thy names Thy seasons come Thy will be done Within us as around us... Thank you for our daily bread Our water, our air, and our lives And so much beauty Lead us not into selfish craving And the destructions That are the hungers of the glutted But deliver us from wanton consumption Of thy vast but finite bounty. For thine is the only sphere of life we know And the power and the glory Forever and ever Amen ~ Mothers Prayer; by Rebecca Solnit See more

06.01.2022 Anybody else do this today?

05.01.2022 I was told this was far too freaky to post on social media. What do you think? Its a Georgie sunflower

04.01.2022 The other week I made my very first little set of inks for an old friend who asked for some samples. In this little set was golden rod flowers, pear tree bark, blackberry, copper oxide and black oak gall inks I did some little color samples to go with them.
