24.01.2022 Rupert's coffee art is improving in leaps and bounds

24.01.2022 Mickey will need a bowl of cream to get rid of the taste of those mucky paws... straight in from the cowshed!!

23.01.2022 Over winter the chooks are going to help us prepare the soil for the summer veggie garden. They have hay down on the ground to scratch and poop in and an area of pasture full of clover to keep their eggs tasty and delicious. Once they're done weeding and fertilising, the piglets will move in to losen up the soil while the chooks head out to strip graze with the cows in Spring .

23.01.2022 Super easy chook feeder to make out of old guttering. It's easy to clean and can be made any height off the ground. It doesn't fall over and you can make it as long as needed to suit your flock size.

22.01.2022 In the search for good research supporting the habitual use of apple cider vinegar (Ascetic acid) in chooks water and feed, this article seems very helpful https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4170041/ It shows that ascetic acid is useful in the control of Emeria tenella that causes coccidiosis in chooks. ... Regardless of any benefits, the use of vinegar should be avoided in hot weather as over consumption can lead to acidosis.

21.01.2022 Breakfast is absolutely my favourite meal. This morning we're spoiling ourselves with three courses including home grown asparagus, grapefruit, strawberries and eggs....YUM

09.01.2022 I am often asked why I grow things that are cheap to buy in the shops?? Growing edibles is not a cheaper way to put food on your table nor does it necessarily result in foods with higher nutrient levels but it DOES help you control how many chemicals you are inadvertantly eating. Onion bulbs are great at storing chemicals and toxins so growing your own puts you back in control .

08.01.2022 Dudley and his Dun chocolate ladies have just moved into their new flash digs with a view, out in the paddock

05.01.2022 Miss Petal Wideload is looking a bit lopsided . With her bub due in the next few weeks she has become very placid and docile. Every day, she and her companions get a breakfast of lucern chaff, a lunch of hay and an 'eat as much as you like' from the grass smorgasbord.

05.01.2022 Caring for a broody hen Broody hens are sitting ducks for mites and lice. Here is how I look after my girls while they're hatching bubs DAY1 Trim feathers from around and below their vent to prevent poo build up... Treat with Ivermectin and Pestene DAILY Remove broody poos daily Check eggs for signs of mites crawling around Ensure mum has fresh, clean food and water at all times DAY 18 Spray a liquid pest repelant, such as Vetafarm Avian Insect Liquidator, under mum's vent and wings. A liquid spray ensures chicks aren't hatching into pestene dust that can cause lung issues for them This proceedure will help ensure mum stays in good condition throughout the incubation period and that chicks hatch into a healthy, pest free nest
