24.01.2022 Take a moment to consider what stands in the way of you caring for yourself. What beliefs hinder self-nurture? Where did those beliefs originate? What do those ...memories need in order to create space for new beliefs? If youd like support exploring your beliefs, feel free to connect with Kate at www.facebook.com/katereimercounselling #LifeTeam #KateReimer #PakenhamCounselling #IndividualCounselling #ChildrensCounsellor

24.01.2022 How do you allow your grief to be? So many of my clients have not been given the opportunity to grieve their losses. Its sadly normal that we are not shown how to feel and experience our grief, nor that its safe or ok to feel what we feel. We are somehow expected to push on and make the most of the life we are left with. Today, how can you acknowledge your grief? Are there words to be expressed in writing, memories to be cherished through organising photos, traditions to be established to honour people or times that were? If comfortable to do so, share with us what has helped you acknowledge your losses and grief in the comments below.

24.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #25 Pay a Bill At first glance, this may seem like an odd self-care activity. However, that one action of paying a bill, no matter its amount, may increase your sense of mastery over your life. ... Paying a bill doesnt take long, but it can give a sense of accomplishment and order at the start of your week or day. Have you ever considered that looking after your financial matters may contribute to your wellbeing? Id love to hear your thoughts below! #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling

23.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #24 Browse Your Photo Memories Take a trip down memory lane by perusing photos of your childhood, a favourite holiday, family, significant event, etc.... Notice the people who have supported you and been by your side over the years. Allow space for happy memories and how you felt in those times. Locate that feeling in your body and allow it to be. Notice the places you felt peace. Return to those places, either physically or using your imagination and use your 5 senses (touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste) to immerse yourself in that peaceful experience. When feeling distressing emotions, remembering pleasant experiences can reassure ourselves that feelings come and go and you wont always feel this way. Notice where or with whom you felt safe. What aspects of that safety can you integrate into your current circumstances? Let us know how you found this exercise in self-care in the comments below! #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling

23.01.2022 I referred to this article in my self-care workshop today. Decorating one floor of a house but neglecting the pipes that have sprung a leak and are destroying the foundation is sometimes how we approach self-care!

23.01.2022 One step closer to letting you in on this exciting product! The Empowerment in Your Pocket cards are back from the printer! Thought you might like to see a sneak peek of our collating party in preparation for a convention Im speaking at on the weekend. Message me to purchase your own copy! #RileyTheBrave #Resources #Trauma #EmotionalRegulation

21.01.2022 This place is not phased by Christmas, by busyness, by the house that looks like a tornado went through. This place is calming, stable, rejuvenating, healing. How are you engaging with the outdoors these holidays?

21.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #22 Notice Your Surroundings Often we get caught up with busyness, both in our schedule and in our head. Sometimes it feels like the thoughts just wont stop and we struggle to find a place of calm. Take a minute to ground yourself in the reality of your physical presence in your environment.... Notice and name... 5 things you see right now 4 things you feel/touch 3 things you hear 2 things you smell 1 thing you taste What do you notice internally? Has anything changed in your internal state as youve focused on your environment? This simple exercise can be applied to any daily activity. For example, try it while washing dishes (e.g., noticing the cup with its curves and straight edges; the feel of the warm water; the sound of the water pouring out of the tap; the smell of the dishsoap; the lingering taste of the meal). #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling #lighthealthyfeed

20.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #20 Connect We are holistic beings, and therefore our approach to self-care must be as well. We often think of self-care as being physical and forget that we are also emotional, psychological, spiritual, and social beings.... This week, take time to nurture yourself socially. Ring, rather than text, a friend. Join a sport team, craft group, or other hobby group to connect with people in your community. Make a playdate for your kids and enjoy a cuppa with their friends mum. Find a friend/neighbour to walk regularly with - caring for your social and physical needs simultaneously! Volunteering can be a great way to meet new people - consider aged care facilities, animal shelters, admin for not for profit organisations, food banks, etc. Put down your phone and spend time really connecting with those closest to you. How do social connections enhance the quality of your week? Let us know below and tag someone youd like to connect with this week! #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling

20.01.2022 Often we notice others negative behaviours and conclude that they are bad people, making wrong choices, or deserve to be punished so they change their ways. I am reminded time and time again, as I listen to clients in my counselling office, that seemingly negative behaviour is communication of something far deeper. Its a way of saying "Im hurting", "Im angry at this injustice", "Im lonely", "Im scared" (etc...) when there are no words to say it. This doesnt mean the ...behaviour is appropriate or permissible, especially if someone is endangered by it, but it begins to make sense of the behaviour. Rather than punishment or dismissal, the individual needs healthy relational connection by which they may learn adaptive ways of expressing, identifying, and exploring what is going on for them under the surface of their behaviour. #BehaviourAsCommunication #Needs #Emotions #Connection #LightHealthyFeed

19.01.2022 Playdough is a great counselling tool for both kids and adults alike. Used as a calming activity, something to fidget with while talking, moulding to show a story, explore emotions, or just as a fun shared activity to build relationship, there are so many uses for it! Heres my fresh batch ready to package and put in my counselling kit for next weeks clients! #KidsCounselling #ChildCounsellor #AdultCounselling #Playdough #PlayTherapy

17.01.2022 A good reminder as we prepare for Christmas...

16.01.2022 May you have a blessed Christmas, treasuring the moments of peace and stillness, moments of remembering, moments of joy, moments of connection with others, and moments of solitude. Christmas is made up of moments: some fun and full of wonder, some stressful, some of grief and heartache, and some of peace. Acknowledge and honour each moment for what it is, knowing that even grief reveals what is valuable to you. If you need a supportive, listening ear this Christmas season, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

16.01.2022 I am so often amazed as I sit with my clients. Often these kids come to see me because they are constantly getting into trouble, having emotion regulation challenges, or any range of problems. But then I start to listen to their story. I hear courage, I hear determination, I hear creativity, I hear intense loyalty, I hear love, I hear a sense of justice. I hear all these things in the midst of some really tough situations. ... These kids so often feel ashamed, but in reality, they have a lot to be proud of. And we have a lot to learn if well only choose to listen to the other story. #Superheroes #TheOtherStory #Brave #Courage #ListenToTheirHeart #ListenToTheirStory #ListenToTHEM #Validate #PakenhamCounsellor #ChildrensCounselling #YouthCounselling #AdultCounselling

09.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #21 Attend to Your Emotional Needs When you feel down or upset, what do you do with those feelings? Many of us push through and try to will ourselves into feeling better. How about trying something different today and allowing your emotions to be, giving them healthy, appropriate expression? ... Journal about what youre feeling, getting curious about your underlying emotions and needs. If you feel angry, throw a tennis ball against an outside wall, picturing yourself letting go of your anger with each throw. If you feel sad, engage with something soothing. If you feel scared, identify if you are safe - if not, please call 000 in an emergency or Lifeline on 13 11 14. If you are safe, but feel scared, this may be a memory connected with a past experience. Reassure yourself that that was then, and you are safe now. You may want assistance processing the past experience. If you feel happy, allow yourself to feel happy. Sing to your favourite music, do something to celebrate. Emotions can feel big and confusing at times. If youd like assistance exploring what your emotions are communicating to you and how to attend to them, please ring me on 0428 735 999 or private message me. We can have an obligation-free, 10-minute phone consultation to chat about your needs and where to find support. #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling #lighthealthyfeed

08.01.2022 Monday Christmas Self-Care #26 Make Space for Yourself For many, Christmas is not, as the song says, "the most wonderful time of the year". It can be the hardest time of the year. If this is you, give yourself permission to give yourself what you need to get through the holiday season.... Take a break with a good book, go for a walk, engage in a hobby - something completely non-Christmas related. Acknowledge that life is difficult for you right now and allow yourself to feel whatever it is you are feeling. Name your emotions. What are those emotions about? Drink a cup of your favourite tea or coffee, noticing the warmth filling your body. Connect with friends/family who get what youre going through and can support you without putting pressure on you to feel something you dont. How do you care for yourself during the Christmas holidays? Let us know some of your Christmas self-care plans in the comments below! Tag a friend who could use some permission to just be this Christmas. Over the weeks leading up to Christmas Ill be posting more holiday self-care strategies, so like this page to see these posts in your feed! #MondaySelfCare #Christmas #ChristmasSelfCare #TheMostWonderfulTimeOfTheYear? #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling #Lighthealthyfeed

08.01.2022 When was the last time you took time out to rejuvenate yourself? With holidays approaching, consider how you can purposefully schedule time to do something that will bring life to you. If you have kids off school, this may require getting creative - is there an activity you can do together that would energize you? Or maybe organise a baby sitter for a morning. Id love to hear your ideas/plans in the comments below!

07.01.2022 Monday Christmas Self-Care #27 Find Joy Anytime I write about joy, especially at Christmas, I am mindful of the expectations people often have that we must be joyful, regardless of the grief or pain we are experiencing. To the person reading who has felt the crushing weight of such expectations, I am truly sorry.... Finding joy is not about pushing aside grief or sadness. But its about making room for the possibility of joy - maybe not today, but at some point. Sadness and joy may also coexist together, and thats ok. Thats a normal part of being human. Pause the Christmas busyness and connect with someone you love - your spouse, friend, kids... Name three things you are grateful for today - it may be a soothing cup of tea or a supportive friend. Do something fun or out of the usual routine - you may just find you begin a new Christmas tradition that brings you life! Tag someone you are grateful for in the comments below! #MondaySelfCare #Christmas #ChristmasSelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling #Lighthealthyfeed

01.01.2022 Monday Self-Care #23 Read a Book Immersing ourselves in good literature provides intellectual stimulation, helps us make sense of our world, relaxes our bodies and minds, enhances vocabulary, aids focus and attention, and a host of other benefits.... In a busy lifestyle it can be hard to find time to read more than 20-word posts on social media. Here are some ideas for implementing reading in a busy schedule: Find books that grab your interest - avail yourself of book-reading lists online, your local librarys database search, or ask your friend what favourite books theyve been reading lately. Place an interesting book where you will see it frequently. Reading a chapter or even just a page at a time can provide a brief, refreshing breather in the midst of your day. Find a book club or a reading buddy and come together to talk about what youve read. Reading doesnt have to be a solitary occupation; it can contribute to social connection! Read with your kids! Shared experiences of reading does wonders for family connection and aids childrens development. Reading may not be your thing. Thats ok! You might prefer a podcast, audio book, or radio segment. What do *you* love about reading? How do you find time in your day for a good book? Let us know in the comments below! #MondaySelfCare #Mondayitis #PakenhamCounselling
