19.01.2022 Our beach sensory play! Cool blue rock pools were created in the dry wet sand. The children explored the wet sand and the different shells. Octopuses, turtles and stingrays were added to engage the children in imaginary play and to build language as they created stories and described how the sand, shells and water felt. They used the shells to make marks in the sand and filled them with water and sand. They loved pushing the sand back and forth with their hands and squishi...ng it, then watching it plop on the ground. We talked about other things we find on the beach and seaweed was mentioned. We searched through the craft cupboard to find the perfect seaweed - green cellophane - which they cut it into strips to add to the water.

16.01.2022 All of this rain we've had, has provided lots of soft dirt and mud to enjoy! They happily shared the space creating a wonderful soup together. As they scooped up the mud with the shovels and their hands, they talked to each other about what they were adding or what else it needed. They accessed the tap by themselves, taking turns filling up the water can.
