25.01.2022 A morning in our Preschool Room at Wonderschool Conder. @ Conder, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

24.01.2022 The preschool 1 Children at Throsby have been looking at the life cycle of a caterpillar. They explored this through multiple languages of art, drama, literacy and observation of a real caterpillar in the class. How amazing is the world around us and how lucky we are as educators to be sharing these experiences with children as they see these Wonders for the first time.

23.01.2022 We are proud to be Sun Smart centres. Keep safe and stay sun smart over the holiday period!

23.01.2022 Pallet play has been at Wonderschool Throsby over the last week creating some new and exciting play spaces for our children to explore. We will have a new art studio, relaxing space- including day beds and cubby house. The children have loved watching the construction taking place and are excited to test out the new spaces. Safe, private play spaces are important for children to feel independent, engage in imaginative play and to be uninterrupted. We are looking forward to watching wonderful play unfold in these new areas.

23.01.2022 Important information for staff and families.

23.01.2022 Labelling our children as ‘naughty’ and punishing them for a poor choice so often overlooks what might be happening for them. Here’s how we can better understand what’s going on for them, to support them to make better choices next time. https://parenttv.com//is-your-child-being-naughty-or-just/

21.01.2022 Sometimes the best finds are hidden away in the corner of a second hand shop. One our educators came across this great art book which has a lovely idea about making fingerprint people. the children enjoyed printing their fingers and then making some really quirky characters. We hope your weekend ahead is full of creativity and quirky fun!

20.01.2022 We hope your weekend was full of playful moments. We look forward to the week ahead of play, investigation and wonder. #bestjobintheworld

20.01.2022 What an amazing day our preschool 1 children had at Canberra City Farm. It was the perfect day for the children to set off on their excursion and learn about growing food. They got to taste fresh strawberries, explore the gardens, have a picnic and investigate slugs and worms. The children and educators arrived back tired and happy at Throsby Wonderschool this afternoon all ready for some relaxation. We are lucky to be building such warm and meaningful community connections and to have such great experiences right on our doorstep.

19.01.2022 A big shout out to Graze Up! for putting together our grazing table for the opening of Wonderschool Throsby. We love supporting locally owned businesses, especially when they are one of our own! @grazeupcanberra

19.01.2022 Today is World Environment Day. We are proud to be working alongside Conder House Laundry and Linen Service. Every little bit matters. @conderhouselaundrylinen @ Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

19.01.2022 Did you know we are opening a centre in Dickson? We are getting ready to do the landscaping, ordering resources and building our new team! We plan on opening at the beginning of October 2020 (pending Service Approval) #wonderschool_elc visit www.wonderschool.com.au to enquire.

19.01.2022 Since the introduction of the parent library in our foyer at Wonderschool Conder, the children have shown an increased interest in books and the concept of borrowing books. An idea that has been floating around for some time now within the Centre is for us to create our own library for the children to borrow books from and to contribute books to also. The idea of creating our own hallway library (Street Library) was agreed upon and so the process began. A key purpose of this library is to not only promote and advocate for the importance of early literacy, but to assist in developing a sense of community, where respect for books and giving, sharing and receiving is valued.

19.01.2022 Wonderschool is a proud supporter of Conder House Laundry and Linen Services who today, celebrate their 4th birthday! Happy Birthday!

18.01.2022 Yesterday we had our last leadership meeting for the year. After lots of productive and interesting discussion the leadership team then got creative! We made some beautiful floral wreaths lead by our resident flower expert and HR manager Mem Nastevski. Learning a new skill and getting in touch with our creative sides was a great chance to challenge ourselves at something a bit outside the box. As Brené Brown says " We want to show up, we want to learn and we want to inspire." A lovely way to wrap up an exciting and productive year for the Wonderschool leadership team.

18.01.2022 We love celebrating our achievements. It has been one year since we developed our values and this week we sat down to reflect on them - Wonder, Integrity, Respect and Empowerment. #wonderschool_elc

18.01.2022 "Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can't expect them to help protect and care for it." - David Suzuki Today at Wonderschool Throsby the children were able to have a close encounter with nature. Andy from Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary came to talk to us about the amazing nature reserve right in our own backyard, and he bought along some lizards and spiders which are commonly found there. The children and educators had a great time interacting with the animals and learning about the role this special sanctuary plays in protecting our wildlife.

18.01.2022 Last Friday we had our first "Slow Friday" morning. This was a chance for families to stay a little longer with their children, slow down and enjoy some breakfast and a coffee and start Friday right. It was lovely to watch families having a go at some craft experiences together or just spending time watching how their children interact with others. The coffee from Fairley Good Food was fantastic too! We can't wait for our next Slow Friday.

17.01.2022 We have an amazing team of dedicated educators who understand respect.

16.01.2022 Is there anything better than sunshine, water and sand? The children at Wonderschool Throsby don't think so. We love sensory exploration, being with friends and being in the moment. #wonder#letthechildrenplay#funinthesun

16.01.2022 NAIDOC week slow Friday. The children and families explored how to grind grain to make bread as we have been learning that the first signs of baking date back 30,000 years ago in Australia. We also explored mark making using Aboriginal symbols. It was a lovely morning to slow down and enjoy Fairley Good Food coffee and have a chat. The best relationships come from taking time together to really get to know each other and we prioritize investing in that time at Wonderschool Throsby. Have a safe and happy Weekend!

15.01.2022 We take safeguarding children seriously at Wonderschool. We have been training our leaders with HalloranMorrissey to know what to do if we do need to conduct investigations to ensure children's safety is a priority. It is a serious subject and we make sure we are informed and engaged so we can offer the best care and the safest places for our children to be. Thank you Kate Halloran for supporting us in this important work.

15.01.2022 On the 9th December it has been 1 year since Throsby Wonderschool opened our doors in Canberra to children and families. It has been a year in which we have learnt, grown, come together and built a strong community. Our values of Wonder, Integrity, Respect and Empowerment still are what drives us everyday. we can't wait to see what the next year brings. Here are some flashback photos from our twilight Welcome event in 2019.

14.01.2022 So much gratitude.

14.01.2022 It was a busy morning at our Conder centre. Early learning really does matter. David Smith MP Anthony Albanese Amanda Rishworth MP

14.01.2022 The children in the preschool 1 room at Wonderschool Throsby have been embracing the spring weather over the last few weeks. They have been planting flowers in our garden beds and learning about how important worms are for soil health. We are looking forward to more sunny days ahead in which the children will be soon visiting a real farm and learning about growing food. There are so many exciting experiences to be had in the world around us. "Beyond the wall there is always a beyond." ~ Loris Malaguzzi

14.01.2022 Cooking experiences are an important part of our curriculum at Wonderschool Throsby. Spending time eating with children, providing them with a rich and interesting menu and involving children in food preparation is a great way to build a healthy relationship with food and a real love for it. "In short, it is right to help children discover the immeasurable richness provided by good food eaten in good company, because at school, too, eating means health, pleasure and conviviality." ~ The Languages of Food by Reggiochildren

14.01.2022 Wonderschool is committed to educating children about our Aboriginal history and acknowledging the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people as the first custodians of the land on which we are situated. We aim to share their stories, traditions and cultures with our children and Educators. This land always was, and always will be Aboriginal land.

14.01.2022 The preschool 2 Children at Throsby Wonderschool had a lovely morning participating in the Aussie back yard Bird count. They spotted many birds and had a great walk in the spring sunshine. It is so important that we share a love of the natural world with children so they learn to enjoy it, enjoy the many mental health benefits of nature and also they can become thoughtful advocates for saving the environment.

14.01.2022 The Junior Preschool children at Wonderschool Conder, as well as all of the children across the centre, partake in the centre's flag-raising ritual and Acknowledgement of Country each day. The children continue to explore the concept of flags and their features, talking with educators about different flags they have seen and how to be respectful of the flags when raising and lowering them each day. Using the flag information cards, the children were inspired to create their own flags and to re-create the Wonderschool Conder flags using button pegs.

13.01.2022 Happy Saturday! Some great advice from Teacher Tom and ParentTV Enjoy some quality family time over the weekend. https://parenttv.com/wp-content/uploads/6-7.png

13.01.2022 An infants role is to explore all aspects of the world around them. Our infants at Throsby Wonderschool recently enjoyed some sensory exploration with sand and water. So many questions- how does it feel, how does the sand interact with water, what happens when I pour it, and quite often how does it taste. We can see the infants wonder at the world and encourage them to be little scientists and test out all their theories.

12.01.2022 Please share if you know of anyone who is looking for a fresh start.

11.01.2022 Anthony Albanese taking the time to help our well-mannered children. What an experience it was hosting this press conference.

11.01.2022 A little reminder for all of us...

11.01.2022 We love loose parts and the endless chances they provide for creative thinking. "The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be there motivations and the richer their experiences." - Loris Malaguzzi

11.01.2022 The children in the Preschool Room at Wonderschool Conder have been investigating design as an early literacy concept. The children confidently explore and make meaning of their drawing, painting and other works of art using the mediums available. To intentionally extend upon this knowledge and interest, the children were invited to draw a design in pencil on their wooden board before etching over it with the wood burner. Risk taking in learning is promoted across Wonderschool Early Learning Centres, where children are viewed as capable, competent and active participants throughout their learning.

11.01.2022 A great day networking and learning about various approaches to documenting, acknowledging the Traditional Owners and ways of being with children. Thank you to Mocca and Wiradjuri Preschool and Child Care for having our leadership team.

10.01.2022 Thank you to Pallet play for our beautiful new playspaces.

09.01.2022 The children in the Junior Preschool at Wonderschool Conder have been investigating paper; how is it made, where does it come from and what can we do to reduce, reuse and recycle? Drawing, painting and cutting are constant opportunities for learning not only about art, mediums and tools, but it also provides opportunities for children and educators to share in conversations about making responsible and informed choices about the resources we are using. Upon discovering that ...the paper recycling bin was full one day, Emma said "there is so much paper!", sparking brainstorm discussions with her peers and educators about paper. With a new understanding of paper and how it can be reused, the children made their own recycled paper to explore this concept further. Once dried, the children and educators compared the characteristics of their recycled paper to that of copy paper where the colour, strength, texture and even the smell was noticed to be different.

09.01.2022 Wonderschool Conder Educator meetings done right. Professional conversations, marshmallows, yarning circle and a little fire extinguisher training! #canberramums #wonderschool_elc #teambuilding

09.01.2022 "We want to show up, We want to learn and we want to inspire"- Leadership Manifesto, Daring Greatly - Brené Brown We take leadership seriously at Wonderschool, which means we take time to learn reflect and think about how we can lead and learn from our teams and our community. Today we had an Educational leader meeting which include some time connecting with our natural environment. As Albert Einstein said " Look deep into nature and then you will understand everything better."

09.01.2022 When making choices regarding what resources and learning materials to provide children, we try to think ethically and to support small businesses. The children at Wonderschool Conder over the past two terms, continue to investigate throughout the curriculum the topics of bugs and space, to name a few. To scaffold this learning, learning materials were purchased from a small business called Ataahua children who have developed these beautiful, respectful materials.

08.01.2022 To all educators who work in the education and care sector. This is for you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

08.01.2022 Maggie Dent has some wonderful wisdom for families. If you haven't already check out her podcast in a quiet moment with a cup of tea.. 08.01.2022 Our Preschoolers have been engaged! @ Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

08.01.2022 Another Slow Friday and another chance for us all to connect as a community at Wonderschool Throsby. It was a lovely for our children to participate in some experiences with their families. It was also really nice for educators and families to connect and have time to talk and ease into Friday. We love this community we are building and value these moments. We also all loved the excellent coffee provide by Fairley Good Food again and the take away breakfast snacks. Can't wait for the next one. Slow is Good!

07.01.2022 At Wonderschool we acknowledge and pay our respects to the traditional owners of the land we work and play on each day. A little while ago we were lucky enough to have Larry Brandy Aboriginal storyteller come to Wonderschool Throsby and share some stories with us and spend some time on the nature reserve near our centre. The children got a chance to see a Boomerang being used and to touch a possum skin. We believe it is important to share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, culture and history with children and we are really lucky to be learning along side them. This always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

07.01.2022 Our educators work really hard with children all week helping them to explore their creativity and curiosity. On Saturday our educators got a turn to tap into their own creative side. We met up for a painting class in our preschool room. It was a great chance to build team bonds, have fun and get messy. "To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong." ~ Joseph Chilton Pearce

07.01.2022 On Wednesday 16th December, Wonderschool Conder held their first exhibition to showcase the children’s learning over the past 9 months. We are just blown away by the amazing feedback from our families said Heidi, Centre Manager. We are so incredibly proud of our Wonderful children and educational team here at Conder and cannot thank each and every family enough for joining us tonight. Wonderschool Conder would like to thank the families for joining us, the children for all of their hard work, the educators for their dedication and Chef Dave for the amazing food!

07.01.2022 Join Wonderschool Operations Manager Sarah Wilcox as she gives us a sneak peek at the newest centre in Dickson, opening later this year

07.01.2022 Mapping is a wonderful experience to do with children. The preschool children at Throsby have been working on where we exist in our community and what land marks are around us. It is really interesting to see the things that are really important to children through this and the big things that stand out in their lives. Have a safe and happy weekend!

05.01.2022 Looking for a change? @innovatecommunicate

04.01.2022 Spring is in the air! And a little warmth with our fire pit in full swing this afternoon with some ukulele playing!

04.01.2022 The children in the Preschool room at Wonderschool Conder have been investigating a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic) projects over the course of Term 4. One of these projects has been looking at the concept of the cycle of life. The educators within this space reflected upon how to best support the children’s learning and understanding in a meaningful, yet ethical way. It was decided that Silkworms would be an ethical choice to support that learning. So far, three of the eggs have successfully hatched and we now have three Silkworms (that look more like caterpillars, as the children have explained) growing and exploring in their glass house home.

04.01.2022 At Wonderschool Throsby we want children to be involved in real life experiences. Children learn about the world around them by participating in it and we have been lucky enough to have some very real experiences in our toddler space in the last few weeks. The toddlers have had Duck eggs which they have been eagerly watching and waiting to see hatch. This week the ducklings came out and we are now able to see them growing and changing. We also had some baby chicks join us and so the children have been learning about the life cycle of ducks and chickens. We hope these beautiful interactions with real animals will instill Wonder and curiosity about the world in the children. It has definitely provided lots of smiles and laughter to us this week. Have a happy and safe weekend.

03.01.2022 Please join us tomorrow in saying thank you to all the wonderful early childhood educators at Wonderschool. Perhaps your child could draw a picture or make a card to say thanks to show their appreciation for all the educators.

02.01.2022 Our teams keeping up to date with First Aid Training including CPR.

02.01.2022 This week is Early Learning Matters week, where early childhood educators, parents, carers and community leaders around Australia come together to raise awarene...ss and understanding of the importance of early learning. Throughout these challenging times, I would like to acknowledge and thank early childhood educators and carers for their tireless contribution. Providers need certainty and support more than ever to continue the great job they are doing in educating and caring for our children. I'm thankful to Director Heidi Clark and the team at Wonderschool Early Learning Centre for taking me on a tour of the new school, and hearing about its contemporary approach to early childhood education. Located in Conder, Wonderschool is purpose-built for an interactive environment for children to discover, learn and play. I also appreciate the team explaining some of the challenges they have been facing and how they have been coping throughout the pandemic.

01.01.2022 On Friday we had our end of year Art exhibition. The children were so proud of the work they had done and it was a pleasure to celebrate with families and children. Thank you to our amazing educators for working alongside children and supporting their voices and creativity. Throsby Wonderschool has also just celebrated our 1st year anniversary. We can't wait to see what the next year ahead brings. Thank you Graze Up for the delicious and beautiful food.

01.01.2022 Literacy learning is multifaceted and should be enjoyable. At Throsby Wonderschool In preschool 2 the children have been exploring "The very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. It has been wonderful to watch the children delve deeply into this project and to be developing a love for stories and communication through their explorations. "The fire of literacy is created by the sparks between a child, the book and the person reading.' ~ Mem Fox
