25.01.2022 Lest we forget. It’s a different Remembrance Day this year, but we can still honour them. Details below from the Shrine of Remembrance about how to access online services.

25.01.2022 I think it’s important that voters feel confident they can trust their politicians. We need to be accountable. Last week we learnt that the Morrison Government paid 10 times the cost of land for a Western Sydney airport. They spent $30 million for land only worth $3 million. The land was owned by a Liberal party donor. Taxpayers' money your money should always be spent for public good. It's time for a Federal anti-corruption commission.

24.01.2022 This definitely helps with the Monday-itis. Five new cases in the last 24 hours. My thoughts are also with those who have lost loved ones. None of this is easy. But our efforts are producing the effects we need. Thank you.

24.01.2022 Great to meet up with the Riverland Conservation Society who received $16,000 in Commonwealth funding to restore some of the wonderful billabongs in the Yarra Flats. Met down at the Annulus Billabong which amazingly has water in it for the first time in almost ten years! Great things are happening down in the Yarra Flats.

24.01.2022 Do not get tired of seeing these numbers. Amazing effort all.

24.01.2022 This should be our future. We need a Labor Government to realize it.

23.01.2022 Everyone in the community has a role to play in the prevention of family violence. In Australia, one woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner. This is a national crisis and a national shame. It’s time to act. If you are struggling with family violence please know there is help available by calling 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732) or the Men’s Referral Service (1300 766 491).

23.01.2022 First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We acknowledge and celebrate the breadth and depth of First People’s knowledge, achievements, experiences and stories. Always Was, Always Will Be #NAIDOCWEEK2020

22.01.2022 Talking climate and conservation with Pat Conroy MP and our passionate local conservation groups. As ever, I'm committed to making sure our local voices calling for genuine action on climate change are heard in Canberra.

20.01.2022 The Premier has just announced some changes to how we will reopen, recognising the achievements we’ve made in bringing numbers down. Full list attached. Significant changes to note include:... -No curfew from tomorrow; -Primary school back from 12 October; -Private inspections for real estate; -Visiting hospitals and aged care rules slightly relaxed. Everyone’s efforts in getting us to this point have been important. Thank you. Keep it up and stay safe.

20.01.2022 This is going to hit people and businesses in Melbourne hard. People are still relying on this payment - cutting it is going to mean families and local businesses will do it tougher than they need to.

19.01.2022 Thank you to the Parade/St Damians Junior Football Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Greg Schroeders for allowing members to train safely as the covid supervisor.

19.01.2022 We need a permanent increase to the JobSeeker payment.

18.01.2022 Thank you to the Ivanhoe Bowls Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Anne Greening for working tirelessly to encourage new bowlers to join the club.

18.01.2022 Expression of Interests for our 2021 Volunteer Grants Program close tomorrow! If you or your community organisation would like to submit an application please fill out the online form via this link: https://www.katethwaites.com/2021-volunteer-grants/

17.01.2022 Cutting the JobKeeper payment will hit 977,604 workers in Victoria. 21,000 of those workers are here in Jagajaga. These changes will see up to $19 million pulled out of our economy every fortnight. Our community needs support, not cuts.

17.01.2022 Every week I’m contacted by Jagajaga locals stuck overseas who desperately want to come home. We need Scott Morrison to do his part to get Australian citizens stranded overseas back home.

15.01.2022 Thank you to the Macleod Netball Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Nicole Malcolm for her dedication to her teams and all other players in the Club. Nicole has been in constant touch with her players throughout these past months.

15.01.2022 A night time visit to the Boulevard Christmas lights was such a big part of my childhood. I understand the decision not to hold them this year, but they will be missed!

15.01.2022 Changes to restrictions announced today. Well done and stay safe all.

14.01.2022 Our local RSLs have been vital in supporting veterans and their families through this pandemic. I was pleased to catch up with them and Labor’s Shadow Minister Shayne Neumann MP to discuss all they’ve been doing and what support they need from the Federal Government at this time.

13.01.2022 Beautiful new gym for Banyule Primary School thanks to Anthony Carbines MP and the Andrews Government. Love visiting my old primary school and seeing it flourish.

12.01.2022 Our recovery should support people and communities. We need to invest in social housing and aged care and a permanently higher unemployment benefit. Cutting support payments will hurt jobs. https://www.smh.com.au//budget-bent-but-not-broken-analyst

11.01.2022 Thank you to the Banyule Junior Football Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to David Witchell for continuing to ensure the club had a training schedule and remained engaged.

11.01.2022 At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. #lestweforget2020

11.01.2022 JAGAJAGA SHOP LOCAL CAMPAIGN In the lead up to Christmas I’ll be showing my support for small businesses in our community and I encourage you to do the same. To kick off the campaign I would like to showcase: Madeleine’s Bakery and Cake Shop - a locally owned bakery in Diamond Creek. Make sure to stop by and pick up a donut or 6.... Mastercut Butcher in Greensborough Plaza, offers a wonderful range of meats perfect for summer and Christmas, pop in and have a look. If you have a favourite small business that you would like featured on this page please email [email protected]

09.01.2022 Pensioners have had a very difficult year. They have increased costs and greater stress from inflated pension deeming rates. The Morrison Government is making it harder for pensioners due to their inaction on deeming rates. This is an insult to older Australians and the Government should act now.

09.01.2022 People in aged care, their families and loved ones deserve better. We need urgent reform.

09.01.2022 The Morrison Government’s JobMaker scheme means it is easier for people over 35 year old to be sacked and replaced with younger, cheaper workers. I’ve already heard from people looking for work in our community about how unfair they think this policy is. That’s why I took it up with the Morrison Government in Parliament

09.01.2022 It was great to catch up with the Presidents of the North Heidelberg Sporting Club and Diamond Valley Superules Football Club today. The new fencing at Shelley Reserve is a massive improvement. I’m really pleased the North Heidelberg Sporting Club received a grant through the Stronger Communities Program to support the upgrade. If you would like further information on government grants or you would like to subscribe to my mailing list please email [email protected]

08.01.2022 Australians deserve answers. We need a Royal Commission into Robodebt now.

07.01.2022 I hope everyone will stay safe this afternoon in Melbourne. A reminder for any people who suffer from asthma - please remember to carry your inhaler with you or stay indoors if you can.

06.01.2022 The Anzac Day Service at the Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital is always a very special occasion. The Repat is a significant place for so many former and current service women and men. My thanks to Robert Winther who does so much to commemorate this history on behalf of our community.

06.01.2022 While the Victorian Government is leading the way and investing a record amount in social housing, including for new houses here in Jagajaga, the Morrison Government has failed to do its part. We need the Morrison Government to invest in social housing.

06.01.2022 Thank you to the Eltham Wildcats Basketball Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Fab Caverzan for his dedication and commitment to the team, without his efforts lockdown for the girls would have been much more difficult.

06.01.2022 The Government’s commissioned Retirement Income Review suggests that if workers don't have enough money in retirement to fund their needs, they can sell their house. This isn’t an adequate plan for retirement. Scott Morrison must rule out cuts to the pension and cuts to the legislated increases in the super guarantee.

05.01.2022 Thank you to the Bundoora Calisthenics for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Luciana Zealley for going above and beyond for the club throughout the COVID-19 period: from administration and governance, to frequent and constant communications with families, to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of members throughout this challenging time.

05.01.2022 Good luck to all the year 12 students who started exams today! It's been a big year and I'm so proud of the resilience you have shown. Here's a shout out from Federal Parliament

04.01.2022 We’ve earned this. And I’m so proud of our community

04.01.2022 I’m so proud of all our local Year 12s who have completed their final VCE exams this week, finishing their schooling in the toughest of years. They don’t deserve to be drowned in debt going to University. But that’s what the Morrison Government’s changes to University fees will do for many.

04.01.2022 Thank you to the Eltham Calisthenic College for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Hayley Milburn & Natalie Hackett for doing an amazing job in keeping the younger girls interested and active with weekly zoom sessions to practice the dance routines the girls worked so hard on at the beginning of the year.

04.01.2022 Scott Morrison said he wanted to get stranded Aussies home by Christmas. But he hasn’t taken responsibility for getting a national plan in place to make it happen, and too many people are still stuck overseas. Here’s just some of the Jagajaga residents whose cases I’ve raised with the PM in Parliament.

02.01.2022 Thank you to the Ivanhoe Knights Basketball Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Jane Richardson for always going above and beyond for the club during this period of uncertainty.

01.01.2022 Thanks to Friends of Eaglemont Village for updating me today on your plans and work to support the local community, including all the planting and landscaping work you have done around the station.

01.01.2022 Thank you to the Yarra Plenty Swimming Club for participating in this years Jagajaga Team Spirit Awards! Congratulations to Andy Warren for going above and beyond to keep all the swimmers engaged across both lockdowns.
