24.01.2022 Funny 'cos it's scarily true! Some version of this. Every. Single. Morning . #whythough? #ThaisVanderheyden

24.01.2022 Just excuse me for a moment while I drop dead after nearly a week of photographing 120+ kids at Barrymore Early Learning . Fortunately they've been little legends (as have all the centre staff ) ...and certainly being "Judy's mum" has helped with my street cred . If you've ever thought care/kinder/school photos were too expensive (you're not alone, I have too as a parent #tightarsemuch), they're definitely not. It's tough work! Sending out props to all the care/kinder/s...chool photographers out there who do this full-time. #respect You've got to be a complete shapeshifter: nimble, flexible, fast (but not so fast that it's scary), careful, playful, friendly (and occasionally stern), comfortable with a lack of personal space (mums like me will be all over this one - pun intended), rambunctious and comedic one minute, and very softly spoken and subdued the next! And that's before you even START to get the lighting, composition and camera technique right . To all those who weren't able to have school/care/kinder photos of their kids this year, I'm so sorry to hear it. Do your best to take some special pics of your own if you can and next time your 'formal' photos roll around, spare a wee moment for the pro photographers out there eternalising your children through photos for you. I can now say first-hand, it's heaps harder than it looks . See more

23.01.2022 All you need is less. No idea who coined the term first but there are a couple of books on minimalism by the same name. And it’s sage advice to live by. Try hard to buy fewer, more meaningful gifts this Christmas . (And support local businesses where you can.) I’m seeing a bunch of ‘tag your small business so we can support them’ posts on Facebook at the moment and I’m LOVING discovering what fellow Aussies are making and selling . If you’ve got one to share, please tag ‘em below so we can all go have a look . Thank you.

23.01.2022 See the online framed print designer in action. Easy as click and preview as you go (no guessing games involved .) Choose between three frame sizes, four colours, various photo sizes/shapes, and your frame orientation (i.e. which way it goes: either horizontally or vertically.) Upload some photos and create a gift only you can give this Christmas . Online pop-up shop closes midnight Monday 2nd November. Link in bio . Enjoy your long weekend Aussie friends!

22.01.2022 Hello . This is me. By Holly Franklin of Holly Boudoir. We met at the 2019 Refocus Retreat. Holly was sitting casually on a rug on the floor, leaning against a couch with her sweet baby girl, Laurel, toddling around her. I was sitting on said couch, off to the side behind them. We were bathing in the afternoon sunlight at Springhill Estate (aka Lancemore Hotels) enjoying a wine (well, I certainly was) and the friendly hum and cackle of our fellow female photographers buzzin...g in and around the room. There I was, basking in the indulgence of being on a multi-day retreat, sans family (thank you Dan), only 45 minutes from home and quietly pumped for what the days ahead would bring. And there was Holly. With Laurel. About to embark on the same journey as me but doing it with a wee child in her 24/7 care, all the way from Darwin. Totally different ball game. #respect. We quickly connected through shared mini tales of motherhood joys and woes (the pendulum swings fiercely at times right?) The next day, commercial photographer, Stef King, tasked retreat attendees with an assignment: we were to pair up and photograph professional portraits of each other. We bucked the system and formed a trio with my room-mate Louise. As it turned out, there was a $1000 Nikon voucher on the line for the best portrait takenand Holly won it (with a photo very similar to this but with a look of consternation - or perhaps even constipation - on my face. Scroll down Holly’s Instagram feed a little to see it: https://www.instagram.com/hollyboudoir/.) I jest, out of self-consciousness of course. It’s a beautiful and deserving photobut this one feels more ‘me’ to, well, me.) Here are a few favourites I took of Holly, who has an awesome groove in front of the camera. Ladies, I implore you: get yourself in front of the camera too - any camera - stat. Learn to settle into your own skin; to see yourself beyond the superficial. Look into your own eyes and make peace with the woman you see. One day, photos of you are all that will be left behind. One day, your kids and/or loved ones will go looking for photos of you to help them remember and celebrate everything they can about you. Make sure said photos are there . See more

22.01.2022 Ahhhhhhh. My twofold 'why:' our little fam who it's all for, close and connected, thoroughly enjoying pouring over random photos and videos of our daily escapades. A memory of our family enjoying memories . And during those times when the wheels are falling off; when things are not *quite* this rosy (aka often...am I right parents with young children?!)...thank heavens for photos and feelings like this to remind us there are plenty of good times after all .

20.01.2022 9 years ago today...and the sunset that evening was as beautiful and calm as the one we Melbournians enjoyed tonight . (Photos by Alex Zattleman and Chris Hillard.)

18.01.2022 Don’t worry little Fergies, we’ll get there . (Thanks for sharing The Garage Studio Photography!)

18.01.2022 Very much looking forward to sharing this with you some time soon! I'm no web developer or designer but I'm building this bad boy myself - bit by (sometimes painfully slow but highly rewarding) bit - and thoroughly enjoying seeing it all come together. If you're at all willing to have a look over/click through it for me before launch (a few weeks away at least), please let me know and I'll send you a wee sneak peak come the time. All opinions welcome. Thank you kindly .

18.01.2022 REPOST : "We’re VERY fortunate to count Katrina Ferguson as one of our closest mates, and even more fortunate that she trekked down the highway to take some photos of us, at home, with Clementine on her one week birthday. We always love Kat’s ‘style’ and can’t recommend her enough. Priceless pics that we’ll treasure forever "

15.01.2022 Have a safe and Merry Christmas (and holiday break!) Thank you so much for 'liking' inVision Photography in 2018. I'm not sure if many people actually see my posts anymore, but to those you who do (please say hello or like this post if you're out there!), I'm wishing you all the best...and I challenge you to get your family together for a quick and casual photo or two during your celebrations . Enjoy and stay safe! - Katrina (Photo by LJM Photography.)

14.01.2022 Doesn't that one cut straight through to the heart?! Powerful stuff and sadly, too many people find out the true value of photos the hard way . Now's a wonderful opportunity to take your own family photos, at the very least (though it won't be long until we photographers are back at it. Some already are.) Set your phone up (or get a selfie stick - I have two, they're awesome!), wrangle your family, turn the timer on, and away you go. They don't have to be perfect. They're actually waaaay better when they're not . And mums, it doesn't count if you're not in it. Muck around, have some fun, take your family photos now...and organise a pro to come do it for you when dust (aka COVID-19) settles. Your kids will never be this age again. Neither will you. Don't let it all slip by never to be seen again. Your future self with thank you!!!

08.01.2022 We were playing the ‘what’s been your favourite thing about our holiday?’ game around the dinner table last night. You had to make everyone guess after giving a clue or two. Dan’s favourite thing had two words, started with ‘n’ and ended in ‘k.’ It had the family a little stumped...but it didn’t take me long at all to guess: no work . We’ve had a ripper time away filled with a solid mix of holiday sloppiness and out-and-about adventures. Hope your summer holidays time was great too .

05.01.2022 SEMI-FINALIST! . Every year the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) runs a national print competition preceded by several state print awards held across the country. Obviously in 2020, said in-person print competitions were not a possibility and so was born the AIPP's (first-ever online) Silver Lining Awards. There were close to 3000 entries across 12 categories and I’m very chuffed to share I was a cross-category semi-finalist (thank you judges ) w...ith two of my documentary images making it through: in the ‘Isolated’ and ‘Celebration’ categories. You can head over to https://aippawards.com.au/silverlining/sla-results/ to enjoy a visual feast of imagery covering all sorts of genres and subjects. Congratulations to all the other semi-finalists who represented the top 25 in each categoryand to those who made it through as finalists (top 10 .) Best of luck to you for the big announcement tomorrow night! See more

05.01.2022 36 today. Sending out some public birthday wishes to the main man in our lives: Dan. We love you...and we tolerate your whiskers . Photos by LJM Photography. Drawings by the Fergies .

04.01.2022 Our wee one is four years old . She doesn’t like it when I call her my babybut tough, I say. She’ll always be my sweet baby girl. Same with Liv and O: all my babies, always. Judy declared out of the blue the other day, Mum, when you’re a grandma, I’ll look after you. Bless this kid. She’s the absolute sweetest (and if you think I won’t hold her to that particular promise, you’re well wrong .) | Photos by LJM Photography

04.01.2022 If you can get through this micro doco without crying, I dub thee...heartless! (Or am I overly sentimental? Good Lord, the bit where he reads from his book and from that point on: total goner ) https://bit.ly/39QmBrI

04.01.2022 HAPPY NEWS: an image of mine was recently selected as a finalist in the international Documentary Family Awards 'Nothing is Better Thank Real Life' category! Couldn't think of a better place for my work to sit (and my heart to gravitate towards .) It celebrates the authentic, unscripted moments of everyday family life. There were over 6000 entires into the competition overall. I can't share my image just yet but will be sure to do so when I can . Absolutely thrilled!

03.01.2022 See you again soon Melbourne town . (Good luck to all through this mini lockdown.)

01.01.2022 Master Ferguson: 6 today. And beautifully eternalised at age 5 by my friend and fellow photographer LJM Photography. When was the last time you had family photos done? The time slips away SO fast. Don't let yourself be haunted by the photos you never took (or had taken .)
