25.01.2022 This year - every Wednesday afternoon we have loads of fun making art with a group of people from NT Respite Care Plus. Today was the Christmas party - complete with 'Pin the star on the Christmas tree', 'Pass the parcel', 'Skittles' and delicious lunch prepared by Dragonfly and kindly donated by KRAHS. Happy holidays everyone. See you all next year.
24.01.2022 How good was this!? This absolute behemoth of a Junk-scultpure was produced by Patrick Bauer and young people from town at KRA, a project funded thanks to the Northern Territory Government. It was one of more than 90 junk-sculptures displayed on the day in a vibrant testament to Katherine's creative spirit! Oh no, here we go getting emotional again! It was just so beautiful!... To all those who contributed, we're indebted to you. As a community festival Junk-Fest thrives upon the enthusiasm and engagement we receive from you all. Thank you all <3

11.01.2022 IT'S JUNK DAY! Here at KRA we represent a diverse community, where nobody is too different to express themselves! That's why when a venerable member of the Canine Arts community approached us wishing to sponsor a prize, there's just no way we could refuse!... As such, the $1000 'Functional' prize is proudly sponsored by prominent art patron Wednesday Arts. Wednesday is a valued member of our community and we're so lucky to have him on board. See you all later today!

01.01.2022 Junk-Warriors #1 Julie Clifford Reigning ‘Functional’ Junk-Sculpture champion Julie Clifford’s passion for recycling and re-using has become a core element of her day-to-day life. ‘It really becomes a habit I just look at any piece of junk and think wow that would be such a great this or that,’ she says.... ‘When there’s some junk on the side of the road I can’t help but stop to see what I could possibly do with it, my husband hates it!’ she laughs. Despite her success, Julie still considers herself a hobby artist driven by the fulfilment it gives her to create. ‘Sometimes I look at other people’s work and I think how amazing is it, how nice and refined they’ve made it then mine looks like a three-year-old did it!’ she laughs. ‘But I like it! And that’s what keeps me doing it is the satisfaction it gives me every time. ‘I collect things off Katherine Buy/Swap/Sell and just stockpile them for projects I’m actually trying to get rid of some of it now to friends and such because I’ve gone a bit overboard. ‘I am always trying to find new ways to reuse. I’m currently trialing different fodder systems for the chocks and putting together some vertical vegetable gardens. ‘We’ve still got work to do there’s always more ways you can reduce your waste at home,’ Julie says. When asked what change she would like to see in Katherine to help people be more waste-conscious, Julie’s suggestion was simple. ‘I do think as a town we should have gotten separate bins for recycling by now, everywhere else seems to have it so why can’t we?’ ‘We do collect our cans and everything here but what about milk bottles for instance? Nobody will take them and they are a core item everybody uses,’ she says. A veteran of ‘five or so’ junk-sculptures and former champion, Julie remains convinced that it’s anybody’s game. ‘If I can get my head around the mechanical side of it and all that, anyone can!’ she laughs. *Junk-Warriors is a series of profiles in the lead-up to Junk-Fest shining a light on exceptional people in our community proactively recycling and re-using waste. More to come!*
01.01.2022 JUST TWO DAYS 'TIL JUNK! Ooooh me oh my it's exciting seeing everything come together now! How long's it been since you heard somebody rock out on the TUBA!? Well we've got you sorted.... One of many musical delicacies we've got stewing up for you met last night for practice, filling the KRA building with pure joy as they went! Perhaps the greatest joy of Junk-Fest is seeing how many talented folk we have right here in our Katherine community. See you this Saturday September 5!
