23.01.2022 The Northern Territory Women's Legal Services (NTWLS), comprising TEWLS, Central Australian Women's Legal Service Inc. and KWILS - Katherine Women's Information... & Legal Service Inc, urgently call upon the Northern Territory Government to reaffirm that Part 2.11A of the Justice Legislation Amendment (Domestic and Family Violence) Bill 2019 (the Bill) will remain applicable in relation to men’s behaviour change programs only as opposed to other programs that do not seek to address domestic and family violence behaviours, including alcohol rehabilitation. "...[t]he NTWLS strongly advocate for the establishment and use of evidence-based programs that work to enhance and prioritise the safety of women and children, rather than being a secondary target." "These programs must be fit-for-purpose for the NT, where women in the NT continue to experience the highest victimisation rate for domestic and family violence offences in the country, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women disproportionately bear the brunt of this violence."

20.01.2022 Domestic violence can not only be addressed when we have the next murder. It is a complex issue. It is compounded by trauma, drug and alcohol misuse and home...lessness. But action is possible. Across the NT, an enormous amount of work by both the Community Sector and Government has gone into the development of a comprehensive 10 year Framework and delivering that must be a priority for any incoming government. Programs that focus on primary prevention and early intervention, while empowering and protecting victims and their families, must be better funded. So when a political candidate comes knocking on your door, ask them, what do they intend to do about reducing domestic, family and sexual violence?
