24.01.2022 COVID-19 has made 2020 the toughest year in many people’s memories. We know you have done the heavy lifting, followed the rules, made sacrifices, and missed sp...ecial moments. The sacrifices made by our frontline nurses, doctors, police, teachers and the vital emergency services workers who have given so much to ensure the that life remained as normal as possible for our families, children and elderly community will not be forgotten. The small businesses of Western Australia have worked incredibly hard to keep their doors open and to keep our state running throughout 2020, and will no doubt continue to do the same in 2021. Over the coming months Zak Kirkup MP and the Liberal team will continue to share more about our plan to create 200 000 additional jobs, to make WA the lowest taxing State for small businesses, and how we will reduce household bills. WA has the people and the resources, we just need the right plan. We’ll keep working for a safer, smarter today, so Western Australians have a better, brighter tomorrow. Enjoy celebrations tonight with family and friends- here’s to a happier and healthier 2021.
19.01.2022 Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas! Thank you so much to all those who will be working over Christmas and spending time away from family and friends. To the volunteers, health care professionals, care givers and members of the police force and fire services, thank you
13.01.2022 PLEASE NOTE: This alert has been downgraded to a bushfire ADVICE. For the latest alerts and warnings visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au A bushfire WATCH AND ACT is... current for people in an area bounded by BRAND HIGHWAY to the south, HAMERSLEY ROAD, PHELPS ROAD and EVANS ROAD to the east and GEORGINA ROAD to the north in SOUTH GREENOUGH in CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON. Publication time: 01:55 PM, 28/12/20. There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing. The fire started near the intersection of COMPANY RD and REYNOLDS ROAD in SOUTH GREENOUGH. WHAT TO DO: - If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear. - If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now. - If you plan to stay and actively defend, do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected. You need to have access to an independent water supply, and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires. - At all times close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible. - If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous. If you are self-isolating or quarantining due to COVID-19 and plan to leave: - Leave now and find alternative accommodation with family or friends who live away from the area. - If you are unable to return to your quarantine location within one hour, telephone WA Police on 131 444 to advise them you have had to leave due to an emergency. - Regardless of your location, continue to follow COVID-19 precautions and maintain appropriate physical distancing. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: It is out of control and unpredictable. Firefighters are expecting the wind to change from easterly to southerly at 1pm. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING Firefighters are on the scene, actively fighting the fire. ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS: Some roads may be closed. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by calling 138 138 or visiting travelmap.mainroads.wa.gov.au or by contacting the CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON. DRONES AND AERIAL SUPPORT: Never fly a drone, model aircraft or multirotor near bushfires. Doing so poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, and forces aircraft to be grounded or redirected, hindering firefighting efforts For more info visit: https://www.emergency.wa.gov.au/
13.01.2022 WEDGE ISLAND settlement update: I visited the Wedge Island community again and discussed their issues around long term residency within the shacks. This has gon...e on for over 25 years and they need an answer. There is nowhere for visitors to go to the toilet and it is resulting in people having to use the surrounding environment. It needs a public toilet in the very least. This is a sensational tourist attraction that could be generating visitor revenue to service the area. Taxing the shack owners is not the answer.
07.01.2022 Leeman area All the best to the Firefighters today looking after our communities.
