25.01.2022 Twin parents are amazing and I am looking forward to supporting my clients in the arrival of their twins very soon. How blessed am I in this job? #Regram @2lifedoula... Twin mamas are absolutely freaking amazing!! Just carrying two new humans in there is a miracle #Repost @evarosebirth About one third of all twins are born vaginally and the process is similar to that of giving birth to a single baby. This beautiful mama had two previous births but this twin birth was her best birth experience! Many women may feel anxious since twin birth is categorized as high risk birth, but it can be just like any other birth without any complications. Any twin mommas out there wanting to share your experience?

The morning of this picture was the last time I put clothes on got dressed etc...it’s mad how you lose track of days and hours in this little bubble. I wondered how different it would be going from 2 to 3 children but the truth is he is the easiest at the minute, he has come along and slotted right in to the chaos of the girls. For me it’s been remembering all the other stuff like which day I need to get the PE kits ready for and homework etc etc, that I have found a little overwhelming. You’ve just got to give yourself time to find your feet which I suppose is being made easier with all these new rules and staying home (not that I understand the rules lol) If you’re expecting a baby I’m thinking of you, it is a funny time to have one that’s for sure but when your little one arrives they are the only place your head is, they block out the craziness and the world seems magical again Lots of love xxx

24.01.2022 Thanks @lesleypascuzzilcce for the picture. A very informative hour listening to @rheadempseybirth talk. I embraced more tv for the boys and remembered I needed to finish her first book and add her new book to list of books to purchase. Some great reminders for myself and once again that feeling f of being so grateful to have experienced true natural birth with all three pregnancies and birth. I am so ever grateful for my midwives and their belief in birth and my husbands belief in not only me and birth.

21.01.2022 To all the twin mums, you are amazing. #Repost @milkandhannah I arrived with only minutes to go. Upon walking in, camera in hand, the midwife got down on her level, and looked at her gently. ... Mama, I know youve waited for the photographer. But shes here now. You can push if you want to. My mind raced, How the fuck did she hold 2 babies in there... but alas, laboring people are resilient. We do what we have to do to get the outcome that we want. I glanced at her above my viewfinder. It was dark. The room was quiet. I dont want to. She spoke. I dont want to be in labor. A room of 8 of us. All women. Holding space around her. A feeling so real, so true, that there was nothing to say. Just to nod in agreement. To nod in respect. After reassurance that she did not have to push until she was absolutely ready, a contraction came, and with it she pushed. In the water was her son. She looked up at us all after catching her breath. What just happened?! I stared back, You tell me.

20.01.2022 A few thoughts about the Sunday Mails article on speed birthing: why expectant parents are not using obstetricians. the need to listen to expectant parents and not those who financially benefit. ... the need to follow Gold practice maternity care, which is a known midwife for pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum. Currently on 8% of Australians have access to this. Look for a few appearances by Master J who is throughout the video and results in a bit of shakiness too.

She really didn’t want another cesarean and needless to say there was not much support for her coming from the hospital based world. 19.01.2022 I love Jacaranda trees and in October Ipswich is covered in them. Purple for days on the ground and on the trees. It just feels so calm and peaceful to me and it reminds me of my hometown Wollongong. Which this year is even nicer, since it’s been so long since we’ve been home. I know jacarandas aren’t for everyone (some people don’t like the mess they make) but I do. I’ve been trying to take a nice picture but it hasn’t happened so sharing this one instead. I hope it brings some calm to your Sunday.

18.01.2022 Postpartum care is something that I dont think I fully understood until the birth of Master J and now Im on a mission to let expectant parents know about why it is important. To solidify my knowledge in this area, beyond my own experiences and Lamaze training, this week Im completing my #donapostpartumdoula training. Im not getting on a to do it, but Im driving in my into the city, starting this Thursday! This has been a goal of mine for ages so Im glad to be ticki...ng it off. A reminder that I have class which is all about setting you up for the 4th trimester: Navigating the 4th Trimester and helping you and your partner to learn what is normal to expect in this time, in regards to sleep, breastfeeding, newborn tests, hormonal and relationship changes as well as identifying who in your network can help you and what services are in the area to help you. Its a class that is relevant whether its your first or third baby! If you would like to know more or back a class in the comfort of your home, send me a DM and we can start chatting. #Repost @lexbuff What does postpartum self-care look like for you? Its hard to think of yourself when you are currently the center of your little ones world. We can easily start to feel stuck in the never ending feed, burp, change, repeat cycle of those early newborn days. I find myself saying why bother getting clothes on, theyll just get spit up on them anyways!, but self-care can be such an important part of the journey back to feeling more yourself again! So when the baby is sleeping, go take that shower, eat those yummy lactation cookies and journal your thoughts as you explore all of the crazy postpartum ups and downs. All the little things that are just for YOU, because you deserve to feel good again. You deserve to love yourself just as much as you love your sweet new baby. Remember; you cant pour from an empty cup, so make sure you are filling yourself up with all the goodness and love you strive to give to others . . . . #postartum #thefourthtrimester #postpartumselfcare #postpartumjourney #postpartumjournal #journalprompts #journalinspiration #newbornbubble #newborn

18.01.2022 Why not home? Has COVID-19 bought about a change in your birth plans?

18.01.2022 This is why its so important to be informed. To know the evidence and to make decisions that are best for you. I honestly believe that if we put as much time and just a fraction of the money that we put into planning our weddings as we do into pregnancy, labour and birth, and the postpartum period we would see a big change. A change in expectant parents being informed of their options and trusting their instincts. Society would stop saying go with the flow and you cant plan birth and promoting unrealistic expectations around newborn sleep and breastfeeding . If you would like to chat options around childbirth education please send me a PM or email [email protected]

17.01.2022 A month ago I spoke to New Life Midwifery New Parents group on the topic of postpartum. One of the areas I touched on was how you can use your birth affirmations for postpartum. A few examples include; I can do anything for a minute I trust my baby ... Youve got this I am a strong woman Just breathe (super important to remember in all stages of parenting) My courage is stronger then my fear. My message was once we birth our babies dont take our affirmations down. Keep them up and soak them in during that 4th trimester. Well I have taken some of this advice. For my birthday in July I ordered myself some positive affirmations that are relevant to me and my business. Again they are hanging above my bed and are a gentle reminder to me to keep going and to believe in myself. The same message that new parents need to read. A big shout out to Alyssa from Scribbles and Knacks who designed these beautiful affirmations. If you are looking for some unique and stunning artwork please check her out. One stunning talented and lovely lady.

14.01.2022 Yesterday Mr H turned 5 and Transformers featured heavily in his gifts. Has anyone had to take a toy to work to make sure it didnt get lost or damaged at daycare? If so what was it? I also cant believe that our Mr H is 5!

12.01.2022 A really important one to consider and to remember that it can take up to 12 weeks to establish breastfeeding. You and your baby are learning new skills together. If you are pregnant a breastfeeding class with Australian Breastfeeding Association is one of my top tips to do. I’m still using the advice that I learnt from mine 8 years on.

12.01.2022 Oxytocin post birth high #Repost @positivebirthmovement This amazement! Had to share it!... Posted @withregram @2lifedoula Fabulous Repost @barefootmidwife We had just finished a birthing and took our student/friend/doula/sister @agapebirthdoula, to dinner, when another family texted that her water broke but no waves. I mentioned that her waves would come quickly and to set up the tub (based on her herstory) if they wanted a third waterbirth. They said they would wait. I told them we would head there and set up and we could wait in the guest room, just in case. We arrived and things were moving fast. Tub had little air, and Richard rushed to fill tub, per their insistence. I sensed there wasn’t time so I placed a few pads under her so that she wouldn’t worry about her bed. Richard @xenham got just enough water in so they both rushed in and out came baby. 2 hours and 45 minutes from water releasing to birth. Then, as we were doing the #newbornexam Aryana @v.anayra texted that her waves were five minutes apart and that it was happening. This being her third birth, first time birthing at home, I did not want to take any chances, so we finished packing and left. Baby Lotus decided that since she waited her turn she wanted to take her time, utilizing 7 hours of the 16 in this birthing spree. Some babies come out exceedingly aware and ready to engage. Whoever was speaking to her would be greeted with her intense gaze. To top it off the very first doula baby I ever supported, @echo_of_eden, had her first birth as Primary! So much magic. I am hoping to share from the other babies but right now my feet are bruised and my heart is spilling over! 12.01.2022 Longitudinal data on why its important to let labour begin on its in and to remember that you arent overdue until you hit 42 weeks and not 40 weeks. As always an easy to read explanation from @drsarawickham ... "In a study of 3079 children evaluated at 10 years of age, gestational age at birth was linearly associated with global and regional brain volumes. Longer gestational duration was associated with larger brain volumes; for example, every 1-week-longer gestational duration corresponded to an additional 4.5 cm3/wk (95% CI, 2.7-6.3 cm3/wk) larger total brain volume." What does that mean in lay terms? Simple. There are advantages to waiting for your baby to decide when to be born. And one of them is that waiting longer means their brain volume can develop more. So much so that a difference can still be seen ten years later. For every extra week the baby stays in your womb, the brain grows by an extra 4.5 cubic centimetres of brain volume. Another good reason to weigh up ALL the pros and cons of interventions such as induction of labour and elective caesarean section before making the decision that is right for you and your baby. When high-profile people speak out about pregnancy loss in general it helps reduce the stigma that miscarriage sadly still carries. When someone as well-known as Meghan becomes one of the club, it does something else, too it demonstrates that this tragic loss really can happen to anyone, no matter how good their pregnancy care, no matter how wanted that pregnancy, no matter how loved and valued their baby might come to be. The Sussex’s story naturally has unprecedented public interest. Whilst we welcome these very public conversations about pregnancy loss we know that those who’ve experienced similar losses may find this increased attention difficult to be constantly confronted with through the media. To those people we say that even duchesses need support, and that you shouldn’t hesitate to seek it for yourself if you feel your grief has been heightened as a result. 09.01.2022 A friend of mine shared this Facebook status tonight and it has really struck a chord with me. Today is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day and this message is really important for all those who work with parents to read and think about. For a long time when working with parents who are pregnant I have always referred to the parents as expectant parents. I’ve done this because I want to be inclusive of both people but never actually thought about what that terminology m...eans. I haven’t stopped to think that no, these two people are already parents, they are making decisions for their child. They aren’t expectant parents at all. So from tonight, going forward I’m not going to be using the words expectant parents, it’s just parents. Rach, thank you for sharing this today and giving me that moment of agh! There is always space to learn and I’m thankful for this learning. . . . . #infantlossawarenessmonth #pregnancyandinfantlossawareness #lamazechildbirtheducator #lamazechildbirtheducation #lamazeaustralia #postpartumdoula #brisbanedoula #alwayslearning #katieallencbe

09.01.2022 One of the benefits of being pregnant in a town and another state where you knew hardly anyone is that you didnt get people that you kind of know coming up and sharing their birth experiences and not the good ones with me. Also a gentle reminder to share our positive pregnancy and birth stories. 07.01.2022 It’s #queenslandmentalhealthweek and this image and message is even more important. You are seen #Repost @spiritysol In case no one told you today mama- you are incredible. You are amazing. You are brave and beautiful (yes, even with unwashed hair, in yesterday’s clothes!) You are showing up- day after day- even though your mind is muddled and your heart is heavy and there seems to be no light at the end of this disasterous tunnel of a year. ... You’re carrying an impossible load. Juggling an insane amount. Homeschool or zoom school, work, partnership, parenthood, mental health, physical health.... Planning lessons, overseeing school work, jumping back and forth between screens - fifth grade math class on one, board meeting on another, kinder reading circle. Plus the daily rotation meals and snacks and dishes and laundry and more snacks - which is a full time job on its own. You. Are. Doing. It. All. And then some. And maybe it feels like no one sees you. Like your work is invisible- because at the end of the day, the house is still messy and you’re still in your PJs and dinner was from the freezer. Again. And maybe you’re scared- because you don’t know if you’re doing this right or if your kids are going to fall behind in school and you worry about their hearts and if they’re lonely, because they haven’t seen their friends in months. And maybe you’re tired. That deep, aching exhaustion that settles into your bones after months and months of holding it all. The hope, the needs, the fear, the grief, the anxiety, the never ending list of thoughts and tasks and the work of keeping tiny humans alive and the world spinning. But mama- you are seen. You are held. You are honored. You are an unsung hero of this wild world. So, keep on, brave and beautiful one. Raise your head high like the mighty queen you are, take another deep breath, and for goddess sakes, treat yourself to takeout tonight! . 06.01.2022 I can’t wait to see this film and am excited to see where it will take maternity care in Australia. Hopefully our MPs at all levels are watching it and listening. #Repost @birthtimeworld Last week we had the pleasure of chatting with @angelabishop10 from @10newsfirst , which screened on Friday evening. The media we have received about our film AND movement has been overwhelmingly positive and we can’t wait to spread the word further to people who otherwise might not hear... this message. We’ve had teary messages from women processing births from a week ago, through to 24 years ago, after seeing our two TV slots last week. Women feeing validated that their experiences matter, and that someone is listening. These messages make us even more determined to generate real, meaningful change. 05.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of a woman or new mum #Repost @2lifedoula Original post @wittyotter ... You have to read this. Brianna Hill, a recent graduate of the Loyola University School of Law in Chicago, knew she would be pregnant during her bar exam, but she wasn't expecting a huge curveball in timing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. "I thought I would only be 28 weeks pregnant when I took the bar," Hill told CNN. "However, due to the pandemic, the test was pushed to October and I was going to be 38 weeks. I joked about taking the test from my hospital bed. Lesson learned!" "I thought I felt something about 30 minutes into the test and actually thought, 'I really hope my water didn't just break,'" Hill said. "But I couldn't go check and so I finished the first section. As soon as I stood up when I finished, I knew my water had broken." I took my break, got myself cleaned up, called my husband, midwife, and mom, cried because I was a little panicked, then sat down to take the second part because my midwife told me I had time before I needed to go to the hospital." Hill said she got to the hospital around 5:30 p.m. and her new baby boy arrived just after 10 p.m. "The whole time my husband and I were talking about how we wanted me to finish the test and my midwife and nurses were so on board. There just wasn't another option in my mind," Hill said. So, the next day, hospital staff provided Hill with an empty room to finish the test and put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. Hill took the rest of the exam in that room and even nursed her baby during breaks. "I'm so thankful for the support system I had around me. The midwives and nurses were so invested in helping me not only become a mom but also a lawyer," Hill said. Via CNN _____ #Repost @wittyotter Follow @wittyotter

05.01.2022 A little something I created today for my takeover of @lamazechildbirth insta stories which was all about midwifery care and how those decisions of who our care provider will be in the first trimester have such a large outcome on our births. If youre in your #firsttrimester or #ttc now is a great time to think about what type of birth you want, how you view pregnancy and birth (is it a normal life event?) and what did your colleagues, family and friends like about their car...e provider and what didnt they like. Its a great time to collect information so you can be informed and ready to ask questions when deciding who will provide your care on this life changing journey. To find out more about #midwiferymodelofcare visit the insta stories to read more and hear my thoughts on the evidence about this #goldstandard model of #maternitycare. @katieallencbe . . . . . . . #midwives #continuityofcare #midwife #midwiferycare #birthoptions #informedbirth #informedbirthoptions #mumstobe #duein2020 #duein2021 #brisbanemumsandbubs #brisbanemumstobe #brisbanemumsnbubs #brisbanemums #ipswichqld #springfieldlakesmummies #springfieldlakesqld #greaterspringfield #childbirtheducation #lamazechildbirtheducation #lamazechildbirthclasses #lamazeaustralia #lamaze60years #lamaze60th #katieallencbe

03.01.2022 Diary of a Wombat by @jackie_french_ is one of Miss Ss favourite book to read to Master J. Its a book weve had since she was a baby and every time we get to this page shes reading I think the wombat is such a great analogy for kids and their food habits. One day they love the food and the next they dont. Does anyone else have this happen at their place?

02.01.2022 Today is a day to say the names of our babies and children who we have lost. Today can be difficult for many but remember there are organisations who can help to talk to and listen.

02.01.2022 Now I don’t usually share offers like this but this sale is amazing and without my Tula Free to Grow with Master J I wouldn’t have been able to get as much done as I did in those early days or during lockdown this year. $79.00 for a Free To Grow is incredible. to grab a deal.

01.01.2022 Today for my other job I’m working at our local shopping centre and encouraging the public to add some leaves to the community connection tree as part of #queenslandmentalhealthweek. It’s been great chatting and being able to tell the public about the services we offer at the YMCA and read the leaves. We are asking for leaves which answer the following questions How do you connect with others? ... How do you show kindness? What are you grateful for? What do you do to look after yourself? (A lot of us are struggling with this). Remember #selfcare is different for everyone but here are a few tips. Swipe right to see some of the community suggestions. The second one has hit home, I’m going to play more. I would love to hear your answers to these questions. . . . . #queenslandmentalhealthweek #parenthood #community #communityconnection #katieallencbe

01.01.2022 Olaf was right. This is why I love water in birth, when I have a migraine and feeling sad. The best pain relief ever. Does anyone else feel this way? #Repost @yourwaterbirth with @get_repost... Oasis Birth Pools @yourwaterbirth #Repost @mostlyhealthymama I crave the ocean. Salt. Heavy air. Sound. Crashing white waves. Sweeping against a forgiving shoreline. Why do we feel so at peace when by the sea? . Therapeutic modalities like sensory deprivation chambers, or float tanks, have harnessed this power. Nothing beats a bubble bath after a long day. And for my favorite example of mother nature’s wonder, waterbirths. I've had the privilege of experiencing her grace in this way twice, and felt so held and supported by her infinite power each time. Why? . Metaphorically and scientifically. If you aren’t already familiar with Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work, he theorizes that water is able to respond to human emotion, thoughts, words, and written messages. He’s even captured this process with highly magnified images that display the molecular restructuring of the water. He believes (and has proven) that human consciousness can affect the molecular structure of water. If emotional energies and vibrations can change the physical structure of water, what else are we capable of? : @erinheuserphoto #yourwaterbirth #oasisbirthpools #waterbirthbaby #naturalbirthing #birthbecomesher #humanbirthproject #birthpool #doulalife #birthdoula #doula #midwife #gentlebirth #midwives #midwifery #homebirth #freebirthsociety #birthwithoutfear #waterbirth
