23.01.2022 I have seen some outright lies, incorrect claims and empty promises by candidates in their campaign material. An elected Councillor only has one vote around the council chamber - so in effect, you can't promise that you will achieve any single thing because achievements rely on the majority of the council chamber supporting the initiative. Be wary of candidates who are promising things and who use statements like 'if elected I will deliver a zero rate rise' or 'I will stop t...he development at...'. What we can say are things like: I will fight for ... I will seek a review of... I will advocate for ... I will lobby ... I will work with ... (state, federal governments etc) Don't vote for yet another career politician that can't keep their promises to you.

21.01.2022 Bullying and intimidation absolutely have no place in our community. I am sharing the below to illustrate some of the despicable, slanderous and unfair behaviour levelled at genuine candidates putting themselves forward to serve their community. Behaviour like this is also happening in Banyule, where there are groups that are fronts for candidates with an agenda to take over council for their own benefit.... These groups and candidates are easy to spot if you know what to look for. Some of the groups are openly endorsing candidates. I encourage you to research these groups, their track record, and be informed about what they are driving. One has a member accused of assaulting a paid deliverer of material from another, and allegedly, charges are pending. Members of the same group running as candidates are spreading outrageous lies about another candidate to boost their own platform. It's disgraceful. We don't need violent thugs and liars on Council. The community deserves better than that.

20.01.2022 Vale Susan Ryan. May there be many more women who carry on your legacy.

18.01.2022 It's obvious to everyone now that access to green spaces and protection of our environment and biodiversity is critical for our health and wellbeing. These spaces provide much needed relief to people and families during the pandemic and the restrictions we are observing. Banyule is currently one of the greenest municipalities in Melbourne, but this all about to change if the North East Link ends up following the form of the reference design with a 60 - 100 metre wide open cut... trench and takes over Gabonia Reserve, Windsor Reserve, AK Lines Reserve, up to 13 hectares in Simpson Barracks and Borlase Reserve during the 7 year build. Bakewell Ward, Hawdon Ward and Ibbott Ward are going to be heavily impacted by years of construction works and our local community needs other green spaces for exercise and recreation. There have been improvements to other local sporting facilities to relocate clubs, but for adults and children who are losing access to their local grounds, they need to find other parks and reserves to use. There's been no holistic focus on the community yet and there should be. I understand these issues in detail and I am passionate that our whole community should benefit from these initiatives. I am saddened and disappointed that one such project at Greensborough Secondary College has seen the loss of trees that have been there for hundreds of years when these could have been retained with better planning and design. These trees will be replaced, however it will take centuries before the loss is restored and our kids will not see this in their lifetime. Banyule needs Councillors who understand this and can plan a strategy for the increase of green spaces and environmentally sensitive planning and development. If elected, I will work hard to increase availability and beautification of green spaces, and seek to develop community gardens and a regional playground in Bakewell Ward for people and families to enjoy and attract them to the local businesses. I will always consider the impacts of development on our green spaces and lifestyles. I will focus on improving community engagement and consultation to see this is done BEFORE decisions are made and with a GENUINE opportunity to influence the outcomes. If this matters to you, please like and share this post with others you know, and vote [1] Katie George in the Banyule City Council election. Make sure you number every box on the ballot to make your vote count and get it in the post box as soon as you can, but definitely before 23 October 2020.

18.01.2022 School strike 4 climate! This was the first big strike and protest that my kids took ME to. Shout out to my friend and her beautiful, passionate kids that we found there Emily Bieber - Greens Candidate for Hawdon Ward, Banyule. So proud of supporting our children to stand up and demand better from those in power. We need a renewables led and environmentally focused recovery, not gas and fossil fuels. Michelle Giovas for Sherbourne Ward Banyule Council was also there, but that was before we had met! Banyule City Council has rightly declared a climate emergency. Vote for candidates who support climate action. Do it for your kids, your grandkids, and your great grandkids.

18.01.2022 These are some abhorrent, cowardly, bigoted attacks on candidates running for Council elections. Solidarity with all LGBTIQA+ people who face this hateful behaviour. I am proud to stand with you to make a better world where you can be who you are.

17.01.2022 This is why we need parks and green spaces

17.01.2022 Vale US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. An extraordinary and inspirational woman. May there be many more who continue your legacy.

14.01.2022 We need to refocus our priorities. This is how we can strongly support our covid recovery.

14.01.2022 Here's hoping for a progressive Council taking strong climate action. As Greta Thunberg says, our house is literally on fire and we need to act now!

13.01.2022 Good governance is imperative to local Councils acting in the interests of the community. If something is not right with your Council, you can do something about it. Watch this short video to find out your options and vote for candidates like me who have integrity and do what they say they will do, with honesty and transparency, for the benefit of the community. https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=lsYaTNHhx-8

11.01.2022 Creating happy, inclusive, healthy and connected communities and people means building neighbourhoods where we have the things we all need. This is also how we lessen mental illness, prevent suicide, and support recovery. Council works with many excellent community organisations in Banyule to provide social housing, neighbourhood programs focused on supporting people and families, social enterprises and healthcare. This work needs to expand - our community is experiencing hig...her unemployment and the Federal Government safety net has been slashed. If elected, I will work hard to grow the partnerships our community needs in a collaborative way with the other successful candidates in Banyule. Vote [1] Katie George

10.01.2022 You too can host an almost life sized picture of my face and our vision for Banyule. DM me if you'd like to have me in your garden

09.01.2022 Bakewell Ward folks, please make sure you have your say! Michelle Giovas has diligently pointed out the impacts coming to the community. I look forward to continuing to work with Michelle on making sure impact on community is properly addressed through these processes. Thanks Michelle!

07.01.2022 This! These are the kinds of initiatives that our Council should be working with the community and youth led social enterprises to support and grow. A vote for me is a vote in favour of your Councillor working as hard as possible to collaborate with other Councillors on growing initiatives that benefit all of us, and support those in need.

06.01.2022 In the last 45 minutes available to post votes, I want to say a big thank you to all of you who have supported me along the campaign trail. This is for the people who gave their advice, proof read material, hand delivered leaflets, hosted my face on a corflute, emailed and called people in the community about my platform, encouraged and inspired me to keep going and donated and lastly, those who voted for a supported, healthy and connected community. This is for you. I hope I... am successful, but whatever the result, I am proud of our efforts and I hold my head high knowing I ran an honest campaign with high integrity. What you see of me is what you get. For the other candidates contesting this election, all the best to you. I am glad that Bakewell Ward didn't suffer some of the grubby tactics that were heavily used by candidates in other wards. To those who were relentlessly bullied, trolled and abused I am so sorry to have witnessed this happening to you and I hope you are OK. You have my solidarity. I can only hope that voters in those wards have refused to support such behaviour and this will show at the ballot box. The people of Banyule deserve Councillors who conduct themselves in a respectful and respectable manner, and put the community ahead of their own agenda, to deliver the very best for everyone. Here's hoping that the declaration on 13 November is for just that.

05.01.2022 Do you have a front yard or fence that you'd be willing to put my face on? DM me!

03.01.2022 Imagine how fantastic it would be to have outdoor dining initiatives like this in our suburbs! I think we could develop some fabulous spaces to come together and socialise, safely distanced in the finer weather to support our local hospo businesses. I'd love to work with the community on proposals like these to make Banyule the best it can be.

03.01.2022 Connectedness is crucial to our health and wellbeing. The pandemic has brought out some of the very best in our community, with our resolve to support and help our neighbours, families, friends, and people who once were strangers. We need to continue to build our community relationships. Council needs to develop and grow supportive initiatives that put social cohesion in the centre as we live through and recover from the impacts of the pandemic. If elected, I would be focused on how Council can work in partnership with organisations like Banyule Community Health to expand services in our community. There's a big opportunity to improve our health and wellbeing, let's grab it with both hands!

02.01.2022 This is me speaking on the NE Link. I am leading the local community in our fight to get the very best project we can. I am working hard to avoid 7 years of destruction, massive construction impacts that will render hundreds of homes as unliveable with no compensation, and lobbying for a tunnel from the M80 all the way to Lower Plenty Road to save Banyule from being split in half. I built an effective campaign together with community groups such as Friends of Banyule, residen...ts and small businesses to influence a better project design and lobbied Council to take a stronger advocacy role on behalf of residents as part of its involvement in consultation with NE Link Project. We're further along in this than when the video was done now, and the Supreme Court challenge was settled before the hearing with Council having a 'seat at the table'. Council now have an opportunity to advocate and influence the final design! If we are going to have a NE Link it should be a world class road with world class outcomes we need, not a project that is trashing Banyule residents and businesses. Banyule needs Councillors who understand this project in detail and who will strongly advocate for better results for residents and businesses. This is the biggest infrastructure project in the history of the state and we need to achieve the right balance so Banyule doesn't suffer. If you elect me, you can be sure that you have a Councillor who understands the project impacts in detail and has successfully delivered results. The project reference design was edited to reduce the proposed Lower Plenty Road interchange footprint and the SMART Taxpayer longer tunnel design was presented to the consortia bidding for the project to consider. Residents who are abutting works were going to get NO compensation when their homes were made unliveable, but we fought and won long term relocation arrangements and a voluntary buy back scheme paid for by NE Link Project. These precedents will help others impacted to access necessary schemes once the final design is known in 2021. Our campaign saw Banyule Council strengthen its lobbying of NE Link and consortia for a longer tunnel to save Watsonia, Greensborough, Macleod, Yallambie, Rosanna and Viewbank from years of unnecessary and totally avoidable construction pain. Banyule residents and small businesses don't need anymore unnecessary heartache or to be sent to the wall, we're dealing with enough. #SAVEBanyule #tunnelnottrench #notrenchthroughbanyule https://www.facebook.com/106204997434554/posts/206911367363916/

01.01.2022 Did you see this? If you haven't yet voted, vote for climate.

01.01.2022 Hi everyone, First thing is first - thank you to each of you who supported my campaign. It was an incredibly close result, 285 votes between me and the win, at the end. This demonstrates a significant portion of Bakewell Ward voters back my policies and positions and I am looking forward to working with you to push Council on these things from the public gallery. If you are feeling disheartened by the result, please don't be I am super proud of the small margin and the oppo...rtunity to have built a rapport with you so we can continue to work on things that matter to our community and improve our local services and facilities, protect and beautify our environment and support our recovery from one of the most challenging times in living memory. I am going to rename this page soon, but feel free to stay in touch with me here. Happy to chat anytime! Congratulations to Mark Di Pasquale on his re-election to Councillor for Bakewell Ward. Mark, I think you're going to be really busy. Thank you for your election commitment to strong community advocacy regarding the North East Link - we'll be in touch with you and our other Councillors on this soon. See you (virtually) at the Council Meetings
