24.01.2022 In an attempt to explain the Hair 500 test I have posted some common questions and answers. I first looked into the Hair test as I heard great things about it in regards to treating excema. It can be much easier than trying an elimination diet. It tests the whole food rather than the protein. This means that instead of cutting out all wheat and dairy, one might be able to have butter and yoghurt, but not cheese and milk or goat dairy may be an option. ... After a bit more research I found people were getting great results with gut conditions. It can be easier for people to follow than the low FODMAP diet. It works on reducing inflammation and is there for used for any condition ending in 'itis' such as thyroiditis or arthritis. It can be easier than the AIP diet diet which is sometimes used. It is not the answer to everything, simply another tool.
23.01.2022 A quick look at practitioner only products vs products off the shelf Quality: Practitioner products are generally of a higher quality. In saying that there are many good options that are available these days at health food shops chemists and to a lesser extent the grocery store ... Dosage: Practitioner products tend to be a higher dose. Dosage varies depending on the condition being treated. Just because you are taking the vitamin or mineral, does not mean you are getting the therapeutic dose required. Adulteration: When it comes to herbs in particular, you want to know you are getting what the label states. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. I want to know my herbs are coming from a reliable source, and not getting a different herb than what is stated. Price: Price can be higher with practitioner products, though this is not always the case. I am finding more and more that prices are not necessarily higher The practitioner: The best part of buying a practitioner only product is that you get the practitioner. Without the practitioner it seems to become a guessing game.
21.01.2022 What does one get with an initial consultation? I forget that a naturopath consult is foreign ground to many. So to cover the basics... An initial can take up to 1 hour.... Client comes with presenting complaint which may or may not be diagnosed. Eg. Skin concerns, digestive concerns, hormonal concerns, chronic fatigue, recurrent urinary tract infections etc. Questioning takes place in regards to primary complaint and relevant body systems. Eg. Immune system, endocrine system, digestive system etc. If time allows other body systems will be looked at (though not linked to primary complaint) Nail, tongue and eyes may be looked at. Blood pressure may be taken. Zinc status may be taken. Testing will be organised if required. This may be through the naturopath or you may be referred back to your doctor as it can be financially friendlier sometimes. Some naturopaths have weird and wonderful machines they use. Eg. Live blood analysis. A herbal remedy may be given, a nutritional supplement or dietary advice. What next... A follow up typically takes place 2 weeks later. Diet tends to be discussed in greater detail. Herbal remedy may be reviewed and altered. Follow ups may become monthly depending on the case and if required. Questions?
21.01.2022 Taking a bit of leave over Christmas to spend some time with these ratbags. Clinic will be closed from the 19th Dec to the 1st of Jan. Back open on the 2nd Jan.

20.01.2022 Just a heads up- if you see me down the street, chances are I won't look like this ;).
19.01.2022 So I got our food compatibility results back this week. It tests 500 foods, drinks and household items. This is just one of the pages. It is not an allergy/intolerance test, rather it tests at a cellular level. It focuses on reducing inflammation and healing the immune system. I was very interested to give it a shot. Once you get your results, you eliminate foods in red for 6-9 months and re-test. Foods that are no longer red are slowly reintroduced. ... So whilst I may not be able to have Brussels sprouts and broccoli for the next 6-9 months, it seems alcohol has got the all clear ;).
17.01.2022 So I have recently done a cull of my page. Deleted all the cute pics of my kids and all the pics of healthy treats and meals I have shared. I am thinking to use my page like a website. A bit of info about what I offer rather than a bombardment on your fb feed. I do find it hard not to take photos and post when I make something tasty and healthy. Will see how I go :).
16.01.2022 Pretty impressed with Rusty's gluten free/dairy free pirate party (apart from the cannons and treasure).
08.01.2022 I've never really struggled with whether supplementation was necessary or not or if was a waste of money. See, I grew up on a wheat and sheep farm. I remember being in our shearing shed looking at a Vit B12 product dad had for his sheep. I thought it was comical that stock seemed to getting their deficiencies addressed far more than people. A vitamin B12 deficiency in sheep can result in reduced growth rate and wool production. Today we were at my mother in law's farm. We we...nt for a drive to put out some mineral blocks for the cows. A deficiency in trace elements can result in reduced growth rate, lowered reproduction rates and lowered immunity. See, it's not the over the top farmers who use mineral blocks or Vit B12 injections. It seems pretty standard. There is a recognition that soils can be depleted of these much required elements. Perhaps we need to be looking after ourselves as well as these farmers look after their stock. Just a thought :).
02.01.2022 What does a herbal cost?? Well there are 2 options for naturopaths and herbalists in regards to herbal pricing. Many charge a flat rate of $40 for 200ml. Others work out the costing of each herb and charge that way. Herbs vary in cost.... I have chosen the latter, though roughly $40 for 200ml is what you would expect. This often would last 2 weeks as generally they are taken 5ml 3x day or 8ml 2x day. Some though are taken as needed, so will last you much longer. Some are taken for short term (2 weeks), some a bit longer (3 months) or some long term. Some people prefer a tablet due to the taste and this can be cheaper sometimes. It really does vary. Cost is always taken into account though and options given.
01.01.2022 Happy 5th bday Missy :).
