23.01.2022 Crazy creature alert Yesterday, I spotted this awesome, clawsome, creature. This guy here, is a SCORPION MUD LOBSTER - Thalassina anomala... A few years ago a friend who was visiting from NZ saw one of these and showed me the photo and I was very jealous because I’d never seen one before. Finally, I saw one too!! They are rarely spotted (I’m so stoked!!!) because they are nocturnal and burrrow up to 2.5m deep in the mud. Because of their deep burrowing they are an important part of the mangrove ecosystem, bringing up organic matter from deep sediments.

23.01.2022 Yeah nah. I think I'd rather be in a stable kayak!

22.01.2022 Barnacles. Boring you say??? Well, I'm about to tell you a couple of things about them that will make you look at them twice next time you see some ... These guys here in the video are called "goose barnacles". They are one of over 1550 species of barnacles worldwide, and I see these on the beach all the time. Barnacles are found in all oceans attached to hard objects like rocks, pier pilings, boats, floating debris as well as other animals. They are filter feeders and they 'eat' with their six feathery legs. Yes, they eat with their legs! You can see these feathery cirri (that's what they are called) very well in the video. They have a long flexible stalk derived from the head to attach to an object - you can also see that quite well in the video. So they basically spend their lives upside down. But here is the best part: Because barnacles can't move, they can't go in search of a mate... However, since most species live in close proximity to each other, they can exchange sperm with the help of a very long penis. In fact, the barnacle has the longest penis of any animal relative to its size. If you want to learn more about some of the crazy creatures we have living amongst us, join us on a NATURE TOUR. Next one will be on WEDNESDAY, we have spots available and I think it'll be a great day to go out and explore Find out more about the tour and book here: https://www.1770liquidadventures.com.au/nature-tour

19.01.2022 A little bit of dolphin action on yesterdays sunset tour... Was great to see as they had been hiding from all the jetskis in the area during the past week...

18.01.2022 Stingray spotting is a favourite on our Family & Nature tours. Yesterday we spotted heaps and this one swam underneath my kayak.

18.01.2022 Can I get a bit of sympathy please?!

17.01.2022 I could do this all day, it’s like popping bubble wrap. Oddly satisfying

15.01.2022 On our Family tour, to keep the young ones interested, we give them a animal id chart to use while we kayak around 1770. I usually give them the challenge of finding at least 5 different animals. When they do, they get to take home a colouring in kayak-scene. Two lovely young girls on our recent tour loved it so much, they wanted to share their pictures with us. And they are so good, I want to share them with you :D

12.01.2022 When you come on a guided kayak tour with us, not only do you get a good looking kayak guide to show you the ropes, but we know all the BEST places. We know the best place to spot stingrays, we know where the most soldier crabs hang out and we know where to find the SOFTEST, DEEPEST sand!! The kids had such a blast ... Check out our range of tours here https://www.1770liquidadventures.com.au

10.01.2022 Wow Just look how this carpet anemone has grown in just 6 months! (Check out the video in the comments too!) This is called a Haddon's Anemone (Stichodactyla haddon) and I have only found one of them in the creek. They can grow between 50-80 cm in diameter. I'll be keeping an eye on this one and will check its growth again.... If you are keen in discovering things like this and enjoy a bit of kayaking at the same time, join our NATURE tour: https://www.1770liquidadventures.com.au/nature-tour

09.01.2022 JELLYFISH - Do you hate them or like them??? Personally, I appreciate them for their beauty and incredible variety but I am also aware that some can be dangerous... As with everything - if you are not sure what it is or if it's harmful (to you or the animal), best not to touch it!... Here are some of the jellyfish i have encountered and photographed over the years. How incredible some of them are!! FUN FACTS : Jellyfish have no brain, heart, bones or eyes. Jellyfish aren’t really a type of fish. Fish are vertebrates that live in water and breathe through their gills. Jellyfish, on the other hand, are invertebrates, and they absorb oxygen from water through membranes. Jellyfish can be a delicacy there are over 25 edible types of jellyfish. They’re typically found in salads or pickled, and some people say they have salty taste and a similar consistency to noodles. A group of jellyfish is called a bloom, a swarm or a smack. I think SMACK is may favourite Have you found any unusual or beautiful jellyfish? Share a photo in the comments!

06.01.2022 This is a strange little creature I found a while ago. Sometimes it is quite hard to find out what these things are...this one took me a while. This is a CORYMORPHA, which is a member of the HYDROIDS family.... A very well known member of this Family is the Portuguese-Man-Of-War. Most hydroids are colonial but this one here is solitary one with a single feeding polyp (the red centre bit). Looks like some fantastical underwater flower to me

02.01.2022 Amazing dolphin encounters on yesterday's sunset tour! We believe that we had the rare pleasure of seeing THREE different dolphin species. Apart from our local australian humpback dolphins, we also saw common bottlenose and indo-pacific bottlenose dolphins. The bottlenose dolphins are generally more curious than the humpbacks and look how close they came to the kayaks!

01.01.2022 Fuzzy & Furry Who wears it better???
