23.01.2022 Something that continues to upset me are these purebred dogs being continually bred in a way that’s destroying their health and well-being. However there are many great breeders out there who breed with the welfare of their dogs in mind. Please do your research

16.01.2022 BODY LANGUAGE If you are ever wondering how your dog is feeling or what his intentions are, look at him, and he will tell you A great way to study a dogs body language is to watch them play together, watch how they act and react with each other, how they carry themselves, how they switch roles, how they claim their toy, how they invite another to play. ... There can be many combinations of body language, but as a general idea a confident/alert dog will be holding itself high; high head, high tail, ears forward, focused gaze. A shy/submissive dog will hold itself low; low head, tucked tail, ears back, averted gaze. A neutral dog will look like this handsome boy Marley; even head, wagging tail, relaxed ears, open mouth(no teeth) The beautiful lab Pippa is neutral but alert(as she has a toy to he claim) as she assesses Marleys intentions she drops her head and relaxed a second later, inviting her in. Both of these beautiful hounds are model balanced dogs, a lovely testament to their owners Katie and Aaron

12.01.2022 PROBLEM PUREBREDS - LOVE IS BLIND Finally, the issues regarding the health of purebred dogs is being addressed! These dogs have been bred to the point where they literally cannot breath, walk or reproduce properly, this video focuses on short nosed dogs however they are not the only ones affected, Many purebred German shepherds for example have severe hind leg and back problems. ... The breeders may mean well, but, love IS blind, and this is unfair on the welfare of the dogs This is what happens when you line breed whether you are breeding for certain features or not, the genetic pool becomes smaller and smaller, essentially it is inbreeding. Yes most breeders take great care in selecting mates that are not related however their genetic code is still too similar. So please for the sake of the dogs, if you are looking at buying a dog, please keep in mind that mixed breeds are most likely going to be far healthier, and more mentally stable, and as such a much better fit to your family. Choose a dog by personality and energy, not by breed Campaign: Love is Blind

12.01.2022 MY STYLE OF TRAINING - THE MEANING BEHIND BALANCED TRAINING Balanced Training is a style of training that uses a toolbox many different techniques in order to best accommodate an individual dogs needs and learning abilities at that time. As with all learning, every action has a consequence, the nature of that consequence determines whether that behaviour increases or decreases. ... There are four main sectors when it comes to operant learning. Operant learning: Basically, your dog performs a behaviour that behaviour has a consequence, that consequence can either be a reinforcement, which will increase the behaviour or a punishment, which will decrease a behaviour - Both reinforcement and punishment can be either positive (something is GIVEN to the dog) or negative (something is TAKEN from the dog) Dogs are constantly learning- whether we are there to guide them or not. An example of negative reinforcement: A person is walking along the footpath The dog barks at the person from behind the fence(action) The person moves to the other side of the footpath (consequence) The dog believes it's actions have kept it safe (-R/ negative reinforcement) and so the behaviour increases *** please note, terminology differs between trainers, Those who work under the "Positive only" technique are referring to only using positive reinforcement and negative punishment for training, often ( but not always) in the form of giving or not giving treats. - This technique is fantastic for teaching behaviours/tricks but it has its time and place - as do the other sectors of operant learning. You are only limiting yourself and your dog by only using half of your toolbox. DOGS ARE DOGS People who treat dogs as humans are wrong, people who treat dogs as wolves are wrong - dogs have been domesticated over thousands of years, dogs are dogs, they are companions, and the reason we are able to live so well together is because we are both SOCIAL animals - and as with all social groups for there to be harmony there must be social order. Naturally there are many more followers then leaders - it is unfair to ask/let your dog be the leader in a human environment, this causes unnecessary stress and is often the cause of unstable dogs. The human should be a calm and assertive leader, as we have invited them into our world it is our responsibility to guide them through it.

02.01.2022 FOOD TOXICITY IN DOGS - CHOCOLATE AND RAISINS HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!! Just a friendly reminder to everyone this weekend of the potential danger to your dogs regarding food toxicity.... While it may taste delicious to you, both chocolate and raisins are toxic to dogs, and can potentially be fatal. So keep an eye out for any eggs or hot cross buns being left out, in particular watch your little ones who might wish to share their treats with your hounds or who like to pick the raisins from their buns! Common Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, increased thirst, increased heart rate, even tremors and seizures. If you suspect your dog is suffering from food poisoning please contact your vet. Have a great weekend everyone!
