25.01.2022 Kids Capers Childcare provides a play-based learning program, we believe it is through play that children make sense of their world, and build knowledge upon previous experiences.

25.01.2022 Last night we held our Kindergarten Information Evening. A big thankyou to our guest speakers; the Deputy Principal of Sandgate State School, Sharon and Steve, a parent whose child has been a part of our program and moved on to School. The purpose of our Information Session was to discuss the benefits of a Kindergarten Program and how it supports the children transition into School.

23.01.2022 Saturday science Experiment! Looking for something fun and educational to do with the kids this weekend? Here is a bit of science inspo - Vinegar and baking soda Volcanos!

23.01.2022 Today at Kids Capers Sandgate, the Wombats have enjoyed free expressive painting. The children were shown all the colours of paint and chose the ones they wished to use. As they painted, educators offered the children the opportunity to talk about what they were painting. Not only was this a great activity for exploring creativity, it was great for fine and gross motor skill development, colour recognition and even negotiation and communication when sharing the paints. When we encourage our children to explore art, we encourage them to master themselves, their bodies, and a variety of tools and techniques. We give them many ways to express themselves.

22.01.2022 Get moving with your little one A walk through nature, taking the time to notice all the things around encourages children to observe the natural environment. It can be fun in the cold, in wet weather or even as it heats up!

21.01.2022 Today the Sandgate Capers Kids have enjoyed a day of dressing up as Superheroes with lots of different hero themed activities and of course the educators love to join in on the fun! The Super Wombats have explored their fine motor skills to make their very own superhero masks complete with super powerful gems and sparkles. They have really enjoyed dressing up and exploring different identities in their play. The Super Goannas have explored real life heroes and drawn their o...wn interpretations of them. Their heroes included people like police officers, doctors and our mums and dads! It was a great way to talk about those people in our lives and community that help others without having to wear a cape. The Super Dingoes have also made some amazing superhero masks that reflect each of their personalities using colourful tissue paper, sparkles and glitter! They too have had meaningful discussions about our real-life heroes and watched a video clip about those important people. Of course superhero games and role play was a big part of the Dingoes play today. Each month at Kids Capers we put together, with the help of staff and parent input, a calendar of events filled with important days to recognise and fun activity days for everyone to get involved in. These days provide a great opportunity to come together as a community and encourage families to be active participants in the centre and their childrens activities.

21.01.2022 O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree Such pleasure do you bring me, For every year this Christmas tree Brings to us such joy and glee O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree... Such Pleasure do you bring me. Almost 12 months ago we were gifted this Christmas Tree by our CEO to love and nurture and enjoy by all. The children have watched it grow and it’s nearly doubled in size so we decided it was time for our tree to spread it’s roots and become a permanent fixture at our centre. We can’t wait to be able to decorate it for Christmas! See more

20.01.2022 Core upper body strength and lower body strength are developed as a child moves the see saw up and down. See saw helps children understand motion through space, body balance and even risk assessment because of its movement. To further develop the Possums core strength the educators initiated the rocking movement of the see saw singing row, row your boat. After some guidance and direction the children were capable of continuing on the see saw unassisted. While educators plan with a focus on a particular outcome, they see childrens learning as integrated and interconnected.

20.01.2022 Say "Hello" to Saturday Morning YOGA!! Yoga is great for young children, it helps to establish healthy habits at an early age and is a great gateway to mindfulness!

20.01.2022 Samford update..... The Kitchen is the of the home In the midst of our 6 buildings, our oversized kitchen and eating area is almost complete! ... This is where the children will gather for freshly cooked meals throughout the day. Check out this weeks menu, our menus are seasonal and on a four week rotation. 20.01.2022 Open ended experiences assists us to accept challenges, express ideas and make meaning in our play, engage in decision making and problem solving. Today the goannas children expressed interest in playing with the small lego pieces, manipulating the pieces as they explored what they could create and how the pieces fitted together. Engaging with lego has many benefits including developing persistence, building on our fine motor skills and hand eye coordination, furthering our cognitive development and increasing attention span.

19.01.2022 1 more sleep to go until Early Childhood Educators Day!!!!!! Join us in celebrating our dedicated Educators tomorrow, you can show your appreciation in your own special way. Early Childhood Educators Day

19.01.2022 A childs inquiring mind and a curious nature are signs of a healthy mind and positive development. All those times when we are inundated with childrens "whys or "why nots" or "hows" are clear signs the children are excited about their environments and learning about the world around them. Recently, a special new board was created in the Dingoes Room at Kids Capers Sandgate, called the KWL Chart. This is a space to record the questions posed by the Kindergarten children ...and is just one way the childrens interests and learnings are supported. The questions are also just one way the childrens voices are seen and heard within the Kindergarten program as their names are written next to their question. The question "what colour are ladybirds eyes?" was posed recently as the children have been finding many ladybirds in the playground. After some previous research and learning, embedding fine motor skills and previous knowledge, the children were already familiar with some aspects of the insect, which the children recalled during the brainstorming yesterday of their ideas about the colour of the ladybirds eyes. This morning, a number of children engaged with some hands on research to seek the answer to the inquiry question. The magnifying glasses were used to look closely at some ladybirds in the playground and the children were excited to be scientists. One science aspect they discovered was that scientists dont always agree as there were various observations of the colour of the eyes. This in turn created further discussion between the children which demonstrates the social aspect of learning together - the respect for the opinions and thoughts of others, the engagement and interaction with others, the sharing and taking turns of resources, and the exposure to different language and vocabulary. The science inquiry shows an active learning disposition particularly within the investigation tasks, and the hypothesising and reasoning around why the children think the eyes are a certain colour. The question remains unanswered at the time of writing, and the children are looking forward to more research incorporating technology and research books and using magnifying glasses this afternoon. 19.01.2022 This week at Capers Sandgate we are celebrating and recognising NAIDOC Week! NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each year to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. Today the Wombats have explored a dreamtime story called How the Birds Got Their Colours by Mary Albert of the Bardi People. The children were offered the opportunity to paint their own interpretations of the colourful birds from the story.

18.01.2022 Our Kids Capers Family would love to wish all the, Dads, Grandads, uncles, and special someone in a childs life a very HAPPY FATHERS DAY To the world you are a dad, to your child you are the world- Dwayne Johnson

17.01.2022 Today we were fortunate to have a Nursing Officer who is posted to Gallipoli Barracks at the 2nd general health battalion come and read to the children exploring in the importance of Anzac Day. Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance of Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in the Wars. Lest we Forget

17.01.2022 The Australian Early Development Census is conducted every 3 years, it collects important information for school planning and community collaboration to guide childrens early learning, development and their transition to school. In Sandgate, results indicate that children are requiring additional support in their physical and emotional development before they transition off to school. As early years educators it is our role to support the children to reach goals/milestones a...nd encourage them to challenge their abilities to go above and beyond so by the time they enter school they are prepared for the next stage of their learning. To encourage and support physical development, educators in our Possums room provided music and scarves encouraging the children to participate by educators dancing along with them. Throughout this experience, the children expressed joy as they engaged with both their educator and peers. The children mimicked actions as well as expressed their own creativity as they explored balance and coordination in their movements. See more

17.01.2022 In the Wombats room we have varying stages of development with ages ranging from 15 months to 2. All activities a offered with these ranges in mind. Educators will often sit one on one with children to really be able to provide individual learning opportunities. Today Miss Anna sat one on one with a little Wombat to do some colour recognition that was tailored just for her and in a way that challenged her thinking. Its a great way to have those special connections and to really understand the child. Each child in the Wombats room will get these opportunities with their educators and educators will make sure that the learning is meaningful to each.

17.01.2022 Look at what Kids Capers Sandgate have on the agenda for this month! We support Bravehearts by empowering children with personal safety skills and training adults in child safety, to build a child-safe culture and helping to make Australia the safest place in the world to raise a child. This month we recognise and acknowledge this with white balloon day and child safety week.

17.01.2022 Today our wonderful chef made the children a delicious berry porridge for their morning tea. Our little Wombats loved their porridge and fruit this morning as there were all empty bowls!! The Wombats really enjoy their meal times and educators try to make this as positive experience as possible. The children have their routine of washing their hands and grabbing drink bottles before sitting down around the tables with all their friends.... When the children sit and eat together it allows for a sense of belonging and encourages social interactions between them. It is also a great way for the children to role model to each other how to use cutlery, try new foods and sit nicely at the table. Educators will sit with the children and talk about what they are eating; what it tastes like, what it feels like and where it comes from, to really encourage interest in to what they are eating rather than it just being food on their plate.

16.01.2022 This week in the Dingoes room at Kids Capers Sandgate, the beginning of the end of year celebrations and acknowledgments started for the Kindergarten children. This week saw the Transition Statements for each child shared with their parents, which is a special time to read through a detailed summary of all the achievements and successes for this year. The feedback from parents has been wonderful, and whilst there were some giggles shared about the children’s personalities, th...ere were also some very proud moments for many parents. So many parents have commented you know my child so well and thank you for such detailed information and you sum up my child with exactly the right words. It was such a pleasure to write those statements. Today, Graduation photos were taken and many parents again commented on how far the children have come during this challenging year. Whilst we all knew this time would come, it is still an emotional roller coaster to see the special time of Kindergarten nearing its end and another chapter closing after children meeting so many milestones this year. There are more end of year celebrations to come with the children’s Christmas party and their Graduation Ceremony in the next two weeks. It’s all happening quickly now.

15.01.2022 ! we will be wearing white and raising funds for the prevention of child sexual assault and exploitation. Help us, by dressing your child in white and by donating below or offering a GOLD coin donation at drop off.

15.01.2022 As the weather warms up and we hit the water remember the importance of water safety and teaching your little swimmers "safety first"! Kids Alive is a great resource for parents with lots of tools to help you teach water safety.

14.01.2022 In the Goanna's room we enjoyed a new activity today, we have been learning how to spin spinning tops. The children showed great excitement with this new activity and all tried to have a go at spinning them. These spinning tops have pens attached to them which draw as they spin, the Goanna's especially enjoyed watching them spin and looking at the pattern it created. By spinning these the children are working on their fine motor skills, concentration skills and strengthening their fingers which will eventually help when they start to write.

14.01.2022 Today here at Kids Capers Sandgate, the Wombats have explored a fine motor skills activity using tweezers and pompoms. Miss Anna encouraged the children to form a pincer grip to squeeze the tweezers, and then use that squeezing motion to grip the tweezers around the pompoms. They were then encouraged to transfer them to the bowl. Different sized pompoms were provided to allow for some problem solving and bit more of a challenge. Fine motor skills activities build the foundations for writing. As intentional teachers we offer the children the opportunity to work on these skills through fun and enjoyable activities that help strengthen the muscles and movements required for writing later on.

13.01.2022 **** Not all superheros wear capes, this is come dressed as your favourite SUPERHERO Day!! Get ready to get creative!

12.01.2022 Today in the Possum room our educators read a dreamtime felt story called Tiddalick the frog. We believe that literature is an important part of a childs development as it increases vocabulary, curiosity and memory. Also introducing literature at an early age improves their attention span and concentration. At Kids Capers Sandgate we feel it is important to provide opportunities for the children to broaden their understanding of the world in which they live. ... Dreamtime stories assist the children to gain knowledge and build on their learning of the aboriginal culture and beliefs.

11.01.2022 Love is an amazing thing

10.01.2022 Sometimes our little people have big feelings! Thats just the way it is, but learning to work with them through these challenging times is vital for both you and them!

09.01.2022 PNC? Today we celebrated National Pancake Day, we cant guarantee our pancakes looked this good but we gave it shot!!

09.01.2022 Tomorrow is Earth Day and we have a special surprise for our little bird friends! During today’s messy art experience, we made them bright and colourful bird feeders out of recycled milk cartons. We chose the most beautiful colours, that remind us of flowers and got to work. We had the most amazing time imagining what kinds of birds will come and feast from them and discussed our plans for hanging them up outside tomorrow. ... Miss Kylie will bring in some yummy seeds tomorrow and along with Miss Nimah, will help the Goannas hang the feeders in the yard. Our planet is a beautiful and amazing place, but it needs our help to thrive! Each year we engage in activities and discussions to teach our Goannas ways to protect and nurture the planet. By using recycled materials to create an environment that welcomes some of mother natures sweet little creatures, we are making our world a happier and healthier place to live.

09.01.2022 At Kids Capers Sandgate the children learn through playing on the traditional land of the Turrbal people. Every day the children join together to acknowledge this and share ideas about the meaning. They often also remember to refer to the beautiful ocean and sea life which we are so grateful to have as our view every day, and the Kindergarten program is embedded with learning that the concept of Land includes the sea. The children are aware of ways to look after the Land, and... refer to happy earth and sad earth. Today in the Dingoes room the Kindergarten children learnt about taking only what is needed from the Land to feed their family. They listened to the story called Gubbi Gubbi Bush Tucker Girl. The Gubbi Gubbi people are traditional owners of the land across the bay, and this story shares the idea of the girl searching for and collecting food for her family. She collects fruit, honey and wraps grubs in leaves. She collects raspberries, which links with our garden which has a mulberry tree. So this morning the children from the Dingoes room took the idea of the Gubbi Gubbi girl and they looked for food in the front yard. They found mulberries and picked them ready to taste at afternoon tea, though some children tasted straight from the tree. They spent some time searching in the dirt for other food and grubs, which alluded them today. The children are looking forward to their excursion to the beach and sea front next week and have now been wondering what foods they might find there.

09.01.2022 Tomorrow is Early Childhood Educators Day.

07.01.2022 Today at Kids Capers Sandgate, all the children have engaged in a special Play Dough Day. This was a calendar of events day that everyone could get involved in and get creative with their playdough making. This simple preschool staple lets children use their imaginations and strengthen the small muscles in their fingers, the same muscles they will one day use to hold a pencil and write. Playdough also encourages children's language and literacy, science, and math skills, al...l at the same time! The Wombats chose to make their playdough pink and put cinnamon in it for an extra sensory experience. Once it was ready they got stuck into squeezing, rolling, cutting, moulding and stretching their playdough. It was a great opportunity to spark conversation and imagination as well as negotiating turn taking with the different play dough tools. Everyone enjoyed this activity for the entire morning!

07.01.2022 Excursions form a vital part of a child’s early education. They expose a child to a range of different experiences and enable them to gain a sense of the world in which they find themselves. We treasure our outings here at Kids Capers Sandgate

06.01.2022 Early Childhood Educators Day recognises and celebrates the work of Australias educators in Early Learning services for their wonderful contributions to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care. The secret of a good Educator is to regard the childs intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination - Maria Montessori We are so thankful to all our families acknowledgements today to celebrate Educators Day!

06.01.2022 ! Today marks the start of National Child Protection Week. Putting children first means prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children. To grow up well children need to feel safe and loved, have a chance to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential things like food, shelter and healthcare.

06.01.2022 Today we are celebrating Earth Day. One of the many ways to help protect our earth is to plant more trees. The Dingoes decided to plant some new flowers and herbs for our garden. We can’t wait to observe them grow.

05.01.2022 Today at Kids Capers Sandgate we had a very special visitor to our centre promoting an interactive experience to foster the childrens interests in our environment. Captain Rob had everyone so engaged today! He did a wonderful job entertaining us by teaching us all about pirates, mermaids, ships, treasure, water safety, sun safety, sharks and other ocean life. The children loved listening, interacting and exploring all aspects of Captain Robs pirate culture.

04.01.2022 In applying the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (QKLG) to the program in the Dingoes room at Kids Capers Sandgate, the children have consistent opportunities to experience many learning areas to build a successful foundation for the transition to school (QKLG). The Communicating learning and development area of the QKLG speaks to the area of exploring literacy in personally meaningful ways (QKLG). As the time of year is coming that many of the children in the Din...goes room are visiting their school for next year and attending Prep interviews, the children are being asked to showcase their skills and knowledge to their school teachers and leaders. One of these skills may be writing their name. Whilst learning to write belongs in the school curriculum, engaging with writing behaviours can be quite a focus of Kindergarten, and is an area of great interest with the children in the Dingoes room. Writing behaviours includes learning and understanding that marks on paper are intended to mean something particular and that people use these marks to convey a message. The QKLG highlights writing behaviours as attempt[ing] to write or copy letters and words, copy[ing] and attempt[ing] to write words and making connections between mark making and personal experience (QKLG, 2019). In supporting the transition to school and the Prep interviews currently being held, this week the children in the Dingoes room have been showcasing their writing behaviours by finding their name and copying this onto white boards. They are very keen to write their names, and some children are also finding the names of their friends and engaging in letter formation with letters additional to those in their own name. Their interest and perseverance is so heartening as many children prepare to thrive at school. See more

03.01.2022 As we move through NAIDOC week 2020, today the children in the Dingoes room at Kids Capers Sandgate used a variety of resources, tools and ideas to create a number of different ways of knowing about the First People.

02.01.2022 The team at Kids Capers Childcare take great pride in creating inviting environments full of fun, learning and adventure for the children in our services! 02.01.2022 We couldnt say it better ourselves!

02.01.2022 Today in the Goanna's room we started preparing for our children's Christmas party this Saturday, by decorating the room and putting our Christmas tree up.

01.01.2022 This year National Child Protection week will celebrate its 30th year with the theme: Putting children first.... In the Goannas room we believe the best way to keep our children safe, is to build positive and caring relationships with them and their families. By taking the time to truly get to know our children and understand the ways in which they express their thoughts and feelings, we can recognise when they need us the most.... Today the educators sat with each child one by one. They talked about the things that make us smile and the things that make us sad. We named the members of our families and the friends we like to visit on the weekends. We thought of the ways we feel loved and show love. We discussed when we feel safe and the people that protect us. We all agreed that our teachers are always here to look after us and make us feel happy safe and loved.

01.01.2022 In the Goanna's room we spent the morning learning about remembrance day and what this means. We started by watching a clip designed for children which explained how the tradition of wearing poppies came about and why remembrance day is important. We used red and black paper to draw pictures relating to remembrance day while watching the short clip to help aid our ideas and understanding of the day. The children showed understanding and respect while drawing these pictures b...y talking about the poppies and the soldiers in the war saying that it was 'sad' and that we need to remember. The children drew images of poppies, poppy fields and soldiers explaining to their friends what they had drawn and the colours that they had used, this was then made into a paper chain that we can display as a reminder. We continued this learning by going inside for an explanation about the 2 minute silence and why we do this, followed by our 2 minute silence at 11am. This was a special moment where we could witness some of our younger citizens showing respect for those who have served us and sacrificed for us in the past. See more
