25.01.2022 Heres some friendly advice from your stage performer friends: you may be the cutest, funniest, most harmless drunk alive, but we dont really love it when you jump up behind us, grab our belongings and push your face up against us to get our microphones. Im looking at you, day-drinking couple from Houma who manhandled my buddy Sam and me, then got offended that I grabbed my mic away from their big wet tongues. Time for a cup of tea and a good lie down for old Karin.

I will never forget the time a quiet, polite, very professional man handed me his business card at Chapel Off Chapel in 2005 and invited me to write something for the little venue he ran South Melbourne. Its 12 years on and without the boundless love and support Ive received from David and his partner Neville, I wouldnt be the cheesy but consistently-employed stage idiot I am today. These ...two men propped up the whole cabaret industry in Melbourne for decades before the rest of the country noticed and wanted a slice. They have fostered so many creative people from artistic infancy to global success as well as being the go-to guys for whats hot and whats not in the arts scene. Now the club belongs to the equally dedicated Simone and creative manager Xander. Theyre continuing the clubs traditions and constantly providing Melbourne with cutting edge shows. Long may The Butterfly Club reign!

15.01.2022 Today we lost one of the most beloved members of the Spirits staff. Tiger was an exemplary coworker who had a heart of gold under a gruff, fuzzy exterior. We shared many a tender yet professional moment in the courtyard, especially when I brought a bag he could dig through. I will miss him terribly. Here we are giving sailor realness together during fleet week.

06.01.2022 Ok... I dont often freak out when celebrities come into the bar but tonight we had Riverdance. Riverdance. All 28 of the bastards. They were drinking and shouting and doing Irish dancing in our bar at 1am. Theyre in town judging the North American Irish Dancing Competition. I lost my freakin mind.

02.01.2022 It takes a lot to throw me off my game on Bourbon Street, given how many strange characters and exposed nipples Ive seen here now; but this one was a doozy. This couple sat under my piano for half an hour. She had a chihuahua in her lap and he spent literally thirty minutes making out with it. Tongue kissing her dog. Two meters from my face. For half an hour. At one point, no jokes, he had to cough up a hairball. The dog was not at all impressed with this. It growled and nipped at him the whole time, baring its teeth every time he came in for another snog. The lady was equally unimpressed. She looked aimlessly around the room with body language that said oh, this again.
