25.01.2022 For those who identify as Indigenous Australian and are struggling with addiction, www.shareourpride.org.au is a resource that provides meaningful ways to connect to culture as a way to address and understand substance misuse and behaviours associated with addiction. This website is an interactive resource made by Australian First Nations people for non-Indigenous Australians to explain the context of significant historical and present-day struggles First Nations people are a...ll impacted by. This website also helps to alleviate some of the racial myths that surround Indigenous health, culture and beliefs. For First Nations people, a strong connection to community, culture, country, spirit and language is a deeply important part of identity that may unlock for all of us more understanding of why we might feel stuck in unhelpful patterns of thinking, behaviour and relating, resulting in patterns of addiction. #ShareOurPride #awareness #reconciliation #addiction See more

22.01.2022 What does Kedesh mean? Where does the name Kedesh come from? We recently put up an explanation up in our Illawarra and Mona Vale residential facilities and today we would like to share the origins of the name of Kedesh . It was common among ancient cultures that the sacredness of their gods extended to their religious precincts and to anyone who lived within them regardless of their past crimes or indiscretions. Ancient Israel was no different. Under the Law of Moses, the... family members of a person who was killed whether deliberately or not were entitled to exact blood revenge by killing the perpetrator. Hence the term, an eye for an eye. However, several places were declared to be cities of refuge or sanctuary. Anyone within the walls of these cities was safe from retaliation. The cities of refuge were intended to help the people who fled to them find atonement and make amends - rather than simply enjoy immunity and protection. The northernmost of these places was the city of Kedesh. The name Kedesh comes from the Hebrew verb (Qadash) which means to be set apart or consecrated. So, Kedesh is a place of safety, where people may come to find respite from the chaos and the consequences of their addictive lifestyles and to begin a journey of recovery, reflection, reparation, and renewal #Kedesh #recovery #safety #reflection

13.01.2022 Sometimes, when we try to adopt a new way of thinking or behaving, our inner self-critic will try to sabotage us by giving us thoughts like "you know this won't last", "you're just in denial" or "you don't deserve to be kind to yourself right now". In actual fact, these thoughts are the result of an engrained and automatic pattern of thinking or behaving negatively, and the switch to something healthier produces discomfort in the body because it's new territory/out of your comfort zone. So, how can we address the difficulties around adopting a new, healthier behaviour like Self-Compassion? This juicy infographic can help #selfcompassion #innercritic

10.01.2022 October is Mental Health Month in NSW, Victoria, and the ACT. Mental Health Month is an opportunity to raise awareness around mental health & wellbeing, centres around World Mental Health Day, which is marked each year on October 10.The Theme for this Mental Health Month is ‘Tune In’. Tuning In means being present, being aware of what’s happening within you, and in the world around you. ‘Tune In’ to your senses what can you sense right now? What can you feel? ‘Tune In’ to your communities what’s happening that you can be part of, or that you can help others be part of? ‘Tune In’ to stigma how do attitudes and understandings of mental health and wellbeing impact people’s ability to live the lives they want? Please check for resources and events: WayAhead - Mental Health Association NSW http://mentalhealthmonth.wayahead.org.au/

10.01.2022 Self-compassion is characterized by three qualities: kindness, understanding and mindfulness. In application, it is more easily understood as 'be-friending yourself'. We often afford compassion to others and possess social skills that allow us to make and maintain friendships, but we rarely use those skills towards ourselves. Check-out this video for a comprehensive guide on be-friending the self, and self-compassion. Enjoy! #selfcompassion #befriendingyourself #innerchild

08.01.2022 Suppressing difficult emotions doesn’t work. Better to experience them, let them go and move on. The key is to not push the emotion away. Bottling it up inside will only cause it to bubble up and explode later, resulting in more difficult emotions or even a complete emotional shutdown. Once you become aware of the emotion you are feeling, notice where it is in your body. You may feel it as a stomach-ache, a tightening of your throat, the pounding of your heart, or tension s...omewhere. Sit with this anger, anxiety, depression, grief, guilt, sadness, shame, or whatever emotion you are experiencing. Become aware of it and don’t ignore it. Listen to your difficult emotions. They are trying to help you wake up to what is going on before a major crisis occurs. If this is difficult, get up and walk around or get a cup of tea. #sittingwithemotions #sitwiththediscomfort See more

06.01.2022 When developing Self-Compassion, a good Loving-Kindness meditation can go a long way! Compassion for yourself or others needs to be cultivated, and we can do this by applying loving-kindness; compassion founded on love is much more sustainable than developing compassion from a place of obligation or shame. It's the difference between 'I should be more compassionate' and 'I would really benefit from being more compassionate to myself and others'. Here's a beautiful Loving-Kindness meditation for your self-care Saturday! #Lovingkindness #selfcompassion
