25.01.2022 https://goo.gl/RIX9QA Things are moving! Your support for our campaign to outlaw the promotion of violence is having a real impact. Help us maintain our momentum. Send a letter to the premier at www.keepnswsafe.com/letter

25.01.2022 From ABC News: The Keep NSW Safe Alliance, a coalition of about 31 community organisations and leaders, has been lobbying for the changes for three years, saying that previous provisions in the Anti-Discrimination Act had not led to a single prosecution. They described the passing as a "great day for the people of New South Wales and Australia".

23.01.2022 Although this game is happening in Victoria, we love the idea of using sport to showcase social harmony. "Sport is an important vehicle around social cohesion and harmony...with Islamophobia and anti-Semitism, it is a good way to use the greatest game in the world to show that what happens internationally is not what happens locally." - Ali Fahour, Richmond FC manager of community engagement partnerships and strategy.

22.01.2022 'Public threats against some of us, are a threat to all of us.' This is the message of a new NSW Government campaign to raise awareness within the community that it is illegal in NSW to incite violence on the basis of race, religion, sexuality and other characteristics. Recent threats against Asian-Australians have prompted this campaign. We are proud that the law our Keep NSW Safe coalition campaigned for - S93Z of the NSW Criminal Code - is the foundation upon which victims can seek help from the police.

20.01.2022 The Keep NSW Safe alliance of 31 community organisations and leaders welcomes the statement by NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley that a NSW Labor government will legislate, in our first 100 days, to strengthen the laws against hate speech and the promotion of racist violence.

19.01.2022 To maintain our successful multicultural society we have to make sure our laws protect people from the promotion and advocacy of violence.

18.01.2022 We are thrilled to inform you that the legislation we have been working so hard to achieve was supported both by the NSW government and the party room today. The next step is for it to be debated in parliament, which will happen in about two weeks time. The full text of Attorney-General Mark Speakman's media release can be read here: https://bit.ly/2svXOFp... Keep NSW Safe spokesperson Vic Alhadeff commented: We commend NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, the Attorney General Mark Speakman and the NSW Government for acknowledging the need to reform the law concerning incitement to violence and preparing this Bill. Preventing incitement to violence is not about curbing free speech, but about public safety. Thats what motivated thousands of Australians to unite on this issue under the Keep NSW Safe banner, and the government deserves credit for responding to their concerns and taking this most important step.

17.01.2022 Well done Daniel Mookhey MLC for reinforcing NSW Labor leader Luke Foley's position on criminalising incitement to violence in NSW. Read his parliamentary Adjournment Speech here: https://bit.ly/2IBC7cH PHOTO: IndiaLink

17.01.2022 NSW Attorney-General Mark Speakman brought a Bill to parliament last year that marked the success of the Keep NSW Safe campaign. It is now illegal in NSW to incite violence against others on the basis of race, religion, gender and sexuality. This is a major, legal game-changer for the people of NSW. Join the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies on Tuesday night as Mr Speakman discusses the new law and the rise of antisemitism.

04.01.2022 Keep NSW Safe, as a coalition of local citizens, reaffirms its commitment to protect all citizens of New South Wales from racist abuse and attack, especially our citizens of Chinese background at this time when global concern about the Coronavirus has re-ignited the racism that springs from fear. There is no place in NSW for hate-mongering, especially against the very people who are most at risk from this scourge. We stand with our Chinese friends and colleagues at this time.

04.01.2022 Things are moving! Your support for our campaign to outlaw the promotion of violence is having a real impact. In 2 weeks time a final report will be handed to the government. 04.01.2022 http://ow.ly/13Cm3098GoJ The NSW government has requested former president of the Anti-Discrimination Board, Dr Stepan Kerkyasharian to undertake consultation with community groups on a number of issues relating to Section 20D of the Anti-Discrimination Act. #KeepNSWSafe

03.01.2022 Keep NSW Safe condemns abuse of Asian Australians The Keep NSW Safe alliance condemns in the strongest terms the racist abuse directed to two sisters on a street in Marrickville. The distress which we all feel in regard to coronavirus does not give anyone the right to accuse or abuse fellow Australians. We commend the sisters for their measured reaction and wish them, the Asian Australian community and all Australians good health and courage during this challenging time. The Keep NSW Safe alliance will always stand up against bigotry.

03.01.2022 There is now a push to outlaw incitement to violence at the federal level and our successful campaign was referenced in this article: "Last year NSW legislators inserted a new provision, s93Z, into the NSW Crimes Act, prohibiting a person from intentionally or recklessly threatening or inciting violence based on race, religious belief or affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex status of HIV/AIDS status."

03.01.2022 The world's foremost expert on grief and the founder of grief.com, David Kessler, succincly explains some of the emotions we might be experiencing right now as we endure changes brought on by the pandemic. He also offers some helpful suggestions for how individuals can work through them.

03.01.2022 Vic Alhadeff, Keep NSW Safe spokesperson, encourages KNS partners and friends to download the government's COVIDSafe contact app: The response to this pandemic isnt only the responsibility of government and health authorities. We all have a role to play, especially if we want to minimise the economic impact and have social distancing restrictions lifted as soon as possible. The app will help identify anyone whos exposed to the virus, allowing officials to rapidly isolate i...nfection outbreaks. As leaders and members of diverse communities, social distancing impacts our way of life and how we celebrate our cultural festivals. Any technology that helps keep us healthy and allows us to get back to normal life as soon as possible is a positive development. I urge everyone to download the app and to encourage your community members to do so too. See more
