23.01.2022 McLaren Vale Grape Wine & Tourism Association, in Onkaparinga, was among the eleven councils that applied to remain GM-free Crop Zones. The Mayor Erin Thompson says GM crops will add red tape and costs to the wine industry, reducing jobs and growth. Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins said "With the Fleurieu being GM-free, as we requested, would have provided a competitive edge with a clean and green image." Yankalilla Mayor Glen Rowlands noted 87% of community responses and 71% of Primary Producers wanted to remain GM-free. 15.01.2022 Alexandrina Council's Sept. 21 meeting voted 6 to 5 to ask the Minister to restore the region's GM-free crop status. Council received 252 responses to its survey, with 71% (179) community and 28% (71) from primary producers and allied industries. 70% backed GM-free, 26% were for GM, and 4% unsure.
