24.01.2022 We're highlighting the very best of our Conquering Debating series! One of the biggest reasons our students want to learn debating is to master the skill of rebuttal - arguing against a point that has been presented by the other team. Learning the skill of rebuttal is a great way to develop critical thinking skills which are essential in later life. In this video, we take you through the basic steps of how to do rebuttal.... We'll be building upon this foundation next term when we start to explore different techniques you can use to write effective rebuttals!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to the Year 12 students who are sitting the final exams for this year's HSC today! Students spend their entire schooling careers working up to the HSC, and one fantastic way to learn how to think on your feet and deal with time-pressure in exams is by getting involved in debating! When students are involved in a debate, they learn how to exercise critical thinking skills in the prep time that they have available in order to create a persuasive speech. This e...xperience helps to build skills and confidence for future exams! #Congratulations to the class of 2020!

Lalita is a hard working student who is always keen to improve her speaking manner in her Presentation Skills Lions class. She has done a great job of holding her palm cards in one hand and including hand gestures in her speech when presenting. Way to go, Lalita!

15.01.2022 In almost all debates, the given topic is about a potential problem in the world, and the debate then focuses on whether that problem exists and/or the best way to solve that problem. That's why its important that teams really understand how to find the right problem and use that to give their case the winning edge. Check out this Conquering Debating video as we take a look at problems.

11.01.2022 Practical arguments are all about whether something will or will not happen, but principle points are about whether something should or should not happen. Principles are concerned with moral or ethical reasoning, rather than logical.

07.01.2022 You can't fix something without a plan of how you will fix it. Most debate topics propose a problem with the world that might need to be solved, and that is why the affirmative team needs a plan! Also known as a model, a plan is what the affirmative will change about the world to fix the problem. Plans are really important, so in this Conquering Debating video we're looking at what makes a good plan, and what makes a bad plan!

07.01.2022 Many debating topics require the affirmative team to develop a plan in order to fix a problem - we call this a "model". Occasionally, the negative will propose a different a plan - a "counter model". To help you understand counter models and when to use them, our experienced debating coaches have put together some helpful tips and information!

06.01.2022 STUDENT OF THE WEEK! Congratulations to this week's outstanding students who have been selected as Student of the Week in their respective classes - Aaron and Sophie! Aaron is in our Presentation Skills Lions class for Year 1-2 students. He is a highly enthusiastic and high-achieving student, who has been developing his speaking skills and becoming a more confident public speaker. He ensures to contribute to all class discussions and continues to improve on his speaking style... each lesson. Well done Aaron! Sophie has been doing a great job in her Debating Pelicans class for Year 5-6 students. She is always eager to ask questions and improve. Sophie delivered an excellent third speaker speech in one of our in class debates, balancing rebuttals to the other team's points with a thorough summary of her own team's arguments. Sophie is a fantastic contributor to our online debating classes, and we can't wait to see her continue to gain confidence throughout the term! Well done Sophie and Aaron!

06.01.2022 Tone and expression are two major components of public speaking. To be an engaging speaker, you can't solely focus on what you say - how you say it can make all the difference.

06.01.2022 STUDENT OF THE WEEK! Congratulations to our winners of Student of the Week: Estrella and Leon! Estrella is in our Presentation Skills Leopards course for years 1-2. Estrella is currently writing her presentation speech on why she likes dogs, effectively implementing the PEEL structure in her body paragraphs. Estrella ensures that she implements any given feedback in her work, improving her vocal projection, eye contact, tone, and flow. A consistent effort has prompted develop...ment in Estrella’s overall presentation skills. Excellent work, Estrella! Leon is in our Debating Wallabies (Rebuttal) course for years 3-4, and he has quickly learned the basics of debating! Leon shines both at rebutting arguments himself and helping others think of reasons the opposition is wrong. Leon consistently contributes to class and always has a new and useful perspective on a topic. Leon is a fast worker and confident speaker. Great job Leon!

04.01.2022 We're highlighting the very best of our Speak to Inspire series! One of the fundamental skills in public speaking is learning how to structure arguments or points in our speeches using PEEL (Point, Explanation, Example, Link). Well-explained points are really important - they ensure your audience understands and believes what you are saying.... If you want to learn how this is done, check out our video to see Anna and Jerry give you a run down on PEEL!

02.01.2022 We have limited spaces available for our upcoming holiday programs which will be taking place in 1-2 week's time!
