24.01.2022 Some lamb spam These are some of our Merino / Corriedale first cross ewe lambs. We conservatively only bred 10 ewes this year giving some of our ewes a year off. All our Sheep are named as they are all unique and easily identified. We can track their fleece and genealogy easily this way. The first is yet to be named and the second we have named Koala due to her distinctive nose marking and lovely grey colouring. #ColouredSheep #perthwa
23.01.2022 I have never really been much of a crafter and started our coloured sheep for the love of sheep and the farm life - not to feed my own crafting habits. Don't get me wrong though, I love woolen handicraft and without any iknitters in the family I was a regular at the markets buying things for my family. The Vinnie's shop in Tasmania when I visited when the kids were tiny was a knit lovers dream. With all this lovely fleece though it was time to have a go. I got a medium size felting needle, watched some You tube , washed some fleece and got stabbing. So here is my first ever felting creation. All natural colours of course!! Lots to learn
21.01.2022 Some of the gorgeous natural shades from our coloured wool. These are just a few from last year's shearing. We are expecting some beautiful greys this season too. They look great on there own, teamed up with white or with some of the beautiful colours like my talented friend at Dyeing 4 Ewe produces. #colouredwool #perthhills #kelarahcolouredsheep #wool
18.01.2022 We are a small Coloured sheep breeder in the Perth hills. Our flock consists of mostly Corriedade with a few Merino and 1st cross. We are focused on producing high quality spinners/handicraft fleece in beautiful natural shades and sheep with a friendly calm temperament suited to small acreage hobby farms. Our sheep are handled in a low stress manner and they are easily lead by a bucket or by hand with some even enjoying a pat or a scratch. We have a strong interest in Regenerative agriculture and have completed the Holistic Management course run by Inside Outside Management (We can highly recommend this Course). We are members of the Melanian Sheep Breeders Society and some of our fleece can be purchased from Bilby Yarns in Willagee through the Society. We can also be contacted directly with fleece or sheep enquiries.
15.01.2022 Well the truth is that I've not come to this Coloured Sheep game with a crafter background. I confess, I am a beginner. Shearing and wool collection is done and dusted for the year. I have a few lovely raw fleece that I have kept back, but because I don't have a lot of room atm I couldn't store so much ( storage in progress). I thought I would have a play with "Curly's" fleece. Curly is a Romney Corriedale cross who was our first born lamb from the purchase of a pregnant ...ewe. His fleece is long, white, strong crimp and a bit dirty and yellow so wasn't great for the shop but fine for me to have a go. Perhaps I will dye it once it is transformed. The first batches I processed/washed I did in a few different ways so I can compare the results. The carded and loose wool has only had one wash and the bagged staples have had two but washed quite differently. It will be interesting to compare what the cleaner wool looks like carded and how different they are to work with. There is so much to learn...... See more
15.01.2022 Lambs playing is always a delight as you come up the driveway. Sheep have such strong social bonds. Being different colours you can pick out the close friendships between them. Watching the 10 of them run, jump, climb and explore is much like watching kindergarten children playing in the school playground.
14.01.2022 A big thanks to my cousin Steve for bringing his camera and lovely family to visit. He has taken some gorgeous photos for us which I am excited to share.
14.01.2022 Such a beautiful winters day to be born.
13.01.2022 Here is the link for Holistic Management course run at Muresk in September. If you are interested in Regenerative agriculture and want to improve the land you manage this is a brilliant course. https://www.facebook.com/211505432225649/posts/3267983733244455/
12.01.2022 Looking for something different? Have a hobby farm and need some friendly lawn mowers? Interested in handicraft or in naturally beautiful fibre? We are currently taking expressions of interest. This year's drop will be available at weaning or we have plenty a little older and wiser. We would love to encourage anyone interested in coloured.
12.01.2022 Teddy our junior Corriedale ram has certainly filled out these past couple of months and is looking great. We have a new home for him planned very soon. We will miss his handsome face.
08.01.2022 Teddy, our up and coming Corridale Ram. 9 1/2 months. One of twins. Very pleased with his conformation and size. #ColouredSheep #youngram #corriedale #perthwa
08.01.2022 Our only white lamb this year in the centre. Her Dam( the rescue sheep) is named Queenie for her regal appearance so we had to name her Princess. Princess is a Corriedale X ?Border L./Merino. Her dam Queenie, an excellent mother, has previously produced beautiful large framed, lovely long, excellent for spinning wool offspring to our Corridale Ram. This is the first ewe lamb for us though. As her Sire is coloured Princess has one coloured gene, so when she is older her offspring have a high chance of being coloured if she is joined with a coloured Ram.
