24.01.2022 Any time I see a doctor is covered by sick leave, right? Not necessarily. Medical appointments and elective surgeries that are pre-arranged can only be covered ...by sick leave if you’re not able to work because of an illness or injury So whether you’re entitled to take sick leave will depend on the individual circumstances. Remember, if you are taking sick leave your boss can ask for evidence to confirm that you were unfit for work https://www.fairwork.gov.au//notice-and-medical-certificat.

14.01.2022 On JobKeeper and been asked to take annual leave? Temporary changes to the Fair Work Act allow employers claiming JobKeeper payments to: ask eligible Jobkeepe...r employees to take paid annual leave (if they keep a balance of at least 2 weeks) agree in writing with that employee for them to take annual leave at half their usual pay for twice the length of time. If your employer asks you to take paid annual leave, you have to consider the request and can’t unreasonably refuse it. If you agree to take annual leave at half pay, you still accrue your usual leave entitlements for the period the agreement applies (as if the agreement hadn't been made). If your employment ends, redundancy and pay in lieu of notice of termination are also calculated as if the agreement hadn’t been made. 01.01.2022 Being asked to work through lunch might make you hangry, but what happens with your pay? You can find out the meal break rules that apply to you here: https://...www.fairwork.gov.au//hours-of-work-breaks-a/breaks (if you're under an enterprise agreement, you'll need to check the rules there). Some awards and enterprise agreements provide employees with extra pay if they don't get a meal break when they're supposed to. For example, the Restaurant Award, says that employees who aren't given a meal break should be paid time and a half from when the break was meant to start until they can take their break. When meal breaks should be given is also set out in awards and agreements. For instance, employees under the Fast Food Award are entitled to an unpaid meal break if their shift is between 5 to 9 hours, and the break can't be during the first or last hour of their shift. Remember, not being given a break and not taking your break are two different things. If your boss tells you to go on your break and you choose to skip it, you aren’t entitled to extra pay.
