24.01.2022 Listening to the radio this morning discussing a study on the impact of covid on the youth mental health specifically 18-25 year old being significant. This dosnt surprise me with the social aspect of life changing drastically and financial stress and much more. Hows the young people doing in your life? If you are a 18-25 year old and needing support I will bulk bill referrals from a doctor on a mental health treatment plan to assist this stress. You will still need to pay the $85ish dollars but Medicare will rebate this cost. This will be via video consult only. Stay strong https://www.google.com.au//new-study-shows-staggering-effe

19.01.2022 A study at Stanford University in 2008 had a group of subjects sample two different wines; a cheaper wine ($20 bottle) and a more expensive wine (over $100). Th...ey then reported their feedback to the researchers. For this study, the participants knew the value of each of the wines and as you might expect, the vast majority scored the expensive wine highest, in terms of taste and pleasure, and the cheap wine at the other end of the scale. In order to make the study more scientifically valid and objective, the researchers conducted MRIs on the participants to see if their perceived enjoyment (of each wine) correlated with what was happening physiologically in their brain. And guess what? It did. The wine which they perceived to taste the best and give them the most pleasure (the expensive one) actually created a comparable pleasure response in their brains. And the cheap wine showed the opposite; a lower level pleasure response in their brains. Now, those results are interesting but whats truly fascinating is that the two wines (the cheap and the expensive) were actually.the same wine! There was no cheaper or more expensive version; they were both relatively cheap. The story was fake, but the responses were very real. So, if your thinking and beliefs can literally determine the biochemistry of your brain, what else might be possible? Image: Stefan Gustafsson

17.01.2022 Check out this video to hear me talk about Name It to Tame It, a strategy that @drdansiegel and I talk about in our book THE WHOLE-BRAIN CHILD. I think this ...is so important right now--when we’re overwhelmed and there’s so much happening in the world. Our children (like us) are dealing with a lot of unpredictability, and this strategy of naming our feelings helps to reduce the reactivity in our brains. It’s based on the science that when we become aware of and accurately describe what we’re feeling, it actually helps make the brain more integrated. This allows us to be more flexible, adaptive, coherent, energized, and stable. I hope you’ll give it a listen and let me know what you think. See more

16.01.2022 How Your Breath Controls Your Mood and Attention Link in our bio to article, and to study this article is based on, Breathing above the brain stem: volitiona...l control and attentional modulation in humans Paced breathing involves consciously inhaling and exhaling according to a set rhythm. For example, you might inhale for 4 counts, exhale for 6, and repeat. Prior research shows that paced breathing exercises can both focus attention and regulate the nervous system. To date, however, we have known little about how this affects brain function in humans. The present study also identified a strong connection between participants’ intentional (that is, paced) breathing and activation in the insula. The insula regulates the autonomic nervous system and is linked to body awareness. Prior studies have linked intentional breathing to posterior insular activation, suggesting that paying particular attention to the breath may increase awareness of one’s bodily statesa key skill learned in practices like yoga and meditation. 12.01.2022 Flashback - discussing well-being with Mackay alongside other amazing health professionals. Time to organise another lunch event
12.01.2022 Career change, life change, starting from scratch. Here is a photo of me working along side amazing, strong and professional women collaborating and building a inspiring event #TEDx Mackay. Here I felt part of a team, inspired, and felt like I had something to contribute - I had a purpose. These women taught me so much. This seems like a distant memory. Change to today where I feel I have no purpose, don’t fit in, people look at me confused when I explain my passion fo...r coaching, facilitation and preventive health and continue to advise me to do counselling. I wonder when the world is going to catch up - that reactive services and waiting for things to go wrong as a point to do better is leading us to a miserable, sick and lonely place. I hope I can make a difference and people value prevention and Psychology in a more helpful way in the future. #dontwaitfortomorrow #dobetter #bekind #psychologyismorethancounselling #PreventionIsBetterThanCure #brainpower #brainhealthmatters #bewellstaywellsharewellnesswithothers See more
09.01.2022 It was this time last year, the fateful days after Christmas, that I was working on our 30 Day Yoga Journey for 2020, titled and themed around the concept of HO...ME. I originally wanted to focus on the theme of Vision, but pivoted a little after seeing many others, take advantage of the 2020 metaphor. (And rightfully so, get it Oprah, I love you, you queen!) But I found myself focused on this theme of HOME, and discovered that I was able to really weave this concept in and out of my at-home yoga practice with such profound ease. I went for it. Today, though I am always nervous to release a big project, an offering, an art, a likely surprising intricate web of tasks just to get it to roll out, I am feeling strangely confident and excited about embarking on the new year with a focus on the BREATH. The stakes feel high, I am not going to lie. So I’ve poured a lot of thought, research, and love into this one. Today, the official countdown begins! In 5 days we will kick off the new year with a transformational 30 Days Of Yoga, centered around the powerful theme of conscious breath. Are you IN? Sign up for at www.YWAbreath.com. (No charges for the program, its 100% free. Invite a friend below!) #ywabreath #yogawithadriene #findwhatfeelsgood
08.01.2022 A friend shared this and I really liked the lesson! *original poster (Kate Scott 2020)*: RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE. When I was at one of my lowest (mental) poin...ts in life, I couldn’t get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by. I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn’t have much to ‘bring’ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say. What are you struggling with? he asked. I gestured around me and said I dunno man. Life. Not satisfied with my answer, he said No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you? I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn’t want to say it. I wanted to have something more substantial. Something more profound. But I didn’t. So I told him, Honestly? The dishes. It’s stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN’T do them because I’ll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can’t stand and scrub the dishes. I felt like an idiot even saying it. What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with *actual* problems, and I’m whining to my therapist about dishes? But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said: RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE. I began to tell him that you’re not supposed to, but he stopped me. Why the hell aren’t you supposed to? If you don’t want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules. It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think I can properly express. That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times. I felt like I had conquered a dragon. The next day, I took a shower lying down. A few days later. I folded my laundry and put them wherever the fuck they fit. There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again. Now that I’m in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry. But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson: THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!

08.01.2022 Herbal Medicine and Nutritional Supplements are a big part of my practice and they get results. But to sustain wellness long term, its not about these thin...gs. Its about the changes YOU make to your diet and lifestyle. You will not find wellness at the bottom of a bottle, but you will find it here: Eat real food. Simple. If its in a packet, its probably not great. Dont overanalyse it, eat your veggies, cut out the crap, and stop putting shit in your mouth you know isnt good for you. Move your body. Every damn day. Do whatever brings you joy. Sleep should be your number 1 priority. 7-8 hours a night. Fix this before anything else Take stress reduction seriously. You dont need to fill every second of every day. You dont need to wear busy-ness like a badge of honour. There is ALWAYS a way to simplify your life. Its up to you and only you. Download the mediation app; go for that walk on the beach; do that art class; ditch that toxic friend; and if you cant change your job.... Does is really need to be that stressful or do you need to change your mindset? Get outside in nature, in the natural sunlight, and connect with people who make you buzz And of course dont forget your water JW x See more

05.01.2022 Did you know that the health status of males in most countries, including Australia, is generally poorer than that of females? Men take their own lives at four... times the rate of women (thats five men a day, on average). Accidents, cancer and heart disease all account for the majority of male deaths. Men are also less frequent visitors to general Practitioners. Mens Health Week runs from the 15th to the 21st of June. This week provides a platform for challenging and debating key issues in mens health and to raise the profile of men. It aims to bring awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. We encourage you to visit menshealthweek.org.au to find out more about Mens Health Week, and how you can get involved.

03.01.2022 On this the start of the Play Your Part National Child protection week #NCPW2020 we want to launch our brand new Body Safety Rules video. Designed by the... incredible Nick Love Cartoons based on the material written by Educate2Empower Publishing Internationally renowned author Jayneen Sanders and narrated by 11-year-old Linc. The National Child Protection Week theme is "Putting children first" and this video is doing exactly that through empowering them with the 5 body safety rules. Which are... My body is my body and it belongs to me. I have a safety network. Understanding Early warning signs. not keeping secrets. Private Parts are what is under my bathing suit and it is not to be touched. These Body Safety Rules are critical to empower children in their rights and to prevent harm and abuse. We ask you to please LIKE, TAG, AND SHARE this video. All parents should teach these rules and show this video to their children and all organisations should teach this to the children in their care. Tomorrow we will be launching our brand new age-appropriate Body Safety Training Package for schools, churches, and other organisations that you will be able to book in either face to face or through a webinar which includes all materials you will need and the training. Thanks so much for LIKING, TAGGING, AND SHARING. Lets get the word out as wide as we can! LETS KEEP MAKING SURE WE ARE "PUTTING CHILDREN FIRST"
