19.01.2022 We have been very fortunate to receive kind donations of hay and manure from Old Macdonald's Farm over tbe last two years. Now is time to help them in their time of need. They desperately need funds to help feed their animals. If you can, please donate through the link below. We all need to support our community at this time. Thank you and stay safe.

18.01.2022 Our dream of a verandah to our shed has finally come true! Huge thanks to local mining contractor Minprovise and Rob Whitney from Old Macdonald's Farm all of whom helped us to build the verandah whilst their businesses were dealing with the COVID restrictions. We cannot thank them enough and are so appreciative of their hard work and generous support which went above and beyond what we could ever have expected. It looks amazing and will give us much needed shelter from rain and hot sun. Come on down and see for yourself how amazing it looks. We are open for business with the usual social distancing and hygiene practices being observed.

16.01.2022 Unfortunately we are obeying the rules and have shut our gate for the time being, but a small team are keeping the garden running and productive,,,,check out this chilli colour bonanza....today also harvested some sweet potatoes,,,,we have garlic, artichokes in the ground, and our rosella is about to flower

14.01.2022 Join us in our happy place.

14.01.2022 We are sharing this amazing award winning and important documentary to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable soil management and farming. At the community garden we have seen first hand how you can turn a sandy block into a productive garden without the use if synthetic fertilisers pesticides or herbicides. This documentary is compelling and motivating .... enjoy ... and become part of the solution.

12.01.2022 Wet cold mornings are a great excuse to stay inside and start propogating our vegie seedlings ready for the Open Day. Never a reason to not be a busy gardener!

12.01.2022 The radishes are coming in in abundance at the moment and, truthfully, theres only so many radishes one can eat... but did you know you can roast them? Nothing fancy, just a bit of olive oil, chopped garlic, salt and pepper. They didnt even last long enough to take the second picture with all present! I did these on the BBQ. Yummy.... And you can treat them like roast potatoes if youre keto. See more

11.01.2022 This story covers some of our activities in the garden this spring. We are planting ground covers and perennials to help mulch the soil and planting trees and shrubs for windbreaks against our nemesis ..the easterly wind.

09.01.2022 Loving our little babies! And they are loving the sunshine

08.01.2022 If your potatoes start sprouting in their bag...REJOICE! Free seeds! Cut off the sprouting eyes and let the wound heal and dry for a day or two on a paper towel and then plant them out. Plant them as deep as you can because no potatoes will form below the seed so its good to give them as much head room as you can. In about a week...the sprouts will begin to emerge. They wont want for much, maybe a liquid feed from time to time. ... When the plant dies off in the spring or summer...youre ready to harvest, but you can bandicoot around the plant for a few spuds here and there after a few months of growth if you cant wait that long. If you worry about introducing potato disease, grow them in a pot and if you have any trouble you can just throw out the soil. Ive been growing potatoes this way for over 20 years and never had any problem or disease. If you want some interesting varieties...visit a health food store. My favourites are Dutch Cream, but these are Carisma from coles - tessa

08.01.2022 Academic studies continue to give scientific weight to what gardeners everywhere know.

07.01.2022 A lovely morning spent up at Araluen Botanic Park. Wonderful work by the staff and the team of volunteers. What a special part of the hills. We might have to add a few tulips to our garden next year I think!

07.01.2022 Well that's a wrap...thanks to all the amazing hard working garden members and visitors to our Community Open Day who made our 3rd anniversary so successful

06.01.2022 While we are all staying home and not able to visit the community garden, a quick crop to plant at home which doesnt require anything more than a little pot with some shallow soil... are radishes. They go from seed to harvest in just 3 weeks...a great project for the kiddies to get stuck into. Granted, kids often dont like radishes, but if you slice them thinly and marinate them in sugar, vinegar and water... It takes the bite out of them and makes them more favourable to t...he younger palate. Who am I kidding? I love them that way too -tessa See more
