23.01.2022 Myth #4: A truck will be at my house Fact: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. For a suburb with over 4,500 people, we have 3 trucks. Even with the help of other brigades there will never be enough trucks to protect every house. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it fo...r a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. 21.01.2022 On Monday night we held our final meeting of the year. As part of wrapping up the year, we presented the Trainee of the Year award! While having several new trainees this year, it was a tough pick. A huge Congratulations to Sarah on winning this award. Sarah has been extremely active within the brigade and is an eager learner. She was able to attend several calls this year and is a valuable member of the team! Brigade members were also presented their NSW Premiers Citation for the work they did to help battle the fires over the 2019/20 season. An honour for many of our members who appreciate the token of appreciation. After a big year for Kenthurst RFS we would like to say a huge Thankyou to the community that has supported us throughout the last season and through a difficult 2020!

20.01.2022 Have you smelt smoke over the last couple of days?? That would be due to a lot of hazard reduction burns going on in the local area. Prior to today's rain, our very own Victoria and Dave have been giving up a lot of their time to help over the last couple of weeks. Here are some shots from Yesterday's burn at Lower Portland. Although the other side of the river got burnt last season our side still has plenty of fuel to burn. The fireground has been dry and the bush has been... burning quickly... so there is still plenty of risk in the area! Huge thanks to the two of them for their recent efforts!

19.01.2022 Today our crews completed a 47 Ha burn off Marieba Road! Thanks to all the crews that came to help especially the trucks from Northern Beaches, Hornsby/Kuringai, Hawkesbury, Cumberland and Blue Mountains A big effort from everyone with an early start to get ahead of the day.

19.01.2022 Myth #3: There's been lots of rain Fact: Lots of rain means lots of growth and consequently lots of fuel for bush and grass fires. It only takes a few days of hot, dry and windy weather to cure grass and make it flammable. Don't be fooled by the rain, fires are still extremely prevalent and we will see this as the weather heats up. Make a bush fire survival plan so you know what you will do if there’s a bush or grass fire near you. Visit myfireplan.com.au... #getreadyweekend #inthistogether See more

18.01.2022 Myth: If there is a fire in the area I will be told when to leave. Fact: Leave Early!! As firefighters, we can't promise we will get to every house in time to tell you to leave.... It’s important that you stay up to date on conditions in your area and that you have made a bush fire survival plan. Leaving early is your safest option. Improve or make your fire plan at myfireplan.com.au #getreadyweekend #inthistogether

08.01.2022 Yesterday two of our members, Dave and Lionel, assisted one resident with 25 pile burns. The two of them ensured the piles were burnt safely whilst helping the resident clear their yard for the coming fire season. A huge job, and an impressive effort from the pair especially Lionel, who is still dedicated to helping at 90!! Remember, from October 1st permits will be required to burn off and as a result will take extra planning and scheduling to ensure we can get around and provide permits. Check out some pics from the pair yesterday

08.01.2022 This weekend is our annual Get Ready Weekend. Usually, this weekend is focused about educating the community on bushfire safety through practical displays. However, with the current restrictions this isn’t possible. This weekend we encourage all our residents to prepare for the upcoming season. This includes: Prepare your bushfire survival plan - sit down with your family and discuss your priorities and what you plan to do in the even of a bushfire. Visit myfireplan.com.au... Clean up your property - prepare your property by clearing any unnecessary material that increases risk during bushfires. Visit rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare Help your neighbours - reach out to neighbours and ask them if they need help preparing and discuss what their plans are in the event of an emergency. Sometimes knowing where your neighbours are during a fire can make all the difference for fire crews! Going forward feel free to reach out to us at Kenthurst RFS or give Bill a call (see previous post). We are all here to help you guys if the worst is to happen. Also follow our page for more bushfires myth busters and facts! Today our members spent some time ensuring the roughly road HR was under control. 07.01.2022 We would like to invite our Dooral families, your families and friends and our community to walk with us to raise funds for our local RFS on Sunday May 2nd. Sep...tember 2019 brought an unusually intense season of bushfires across Australia. The devastation resulted in the destruction of 10,000 homes across the country. Without the mammoth effort of our Emergency services there is no doubt this number would be incredibly different. The devastation of the bushfires ceased in May 2020 and we all felt the exhaustion physically and mentally. If anyone deserved a break it was the emergency and volunteer service men and women. This is our way of thanking all our local volunteers. All proceeds will be donated to our local Rural Fire Brigades. 07.01.2022 NSW Health is calling on people in the Rouse Hill area to get tested if they have even the mildest COVID-19 symptoms after the state’s sewage surveillance progr...am detected traces of the virus in the area. The catchment takes sewage from approximately 120,000 people. Fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been detected in samples taken on Thursday 5 November from the sewerage system that drains parts of Quakers Hill, Castle Hill, Annangrove, Kellyville, Box Hill, Kenthurst, Glenhaven, The Ponds, Rouse Hill, North Kellyville, Kellyville Ridge, Beaumont Hills, Stanhope Gardens, Baulkham Hills, Glenwood, Bella Vista, Parklea, Acacia Gardens and Norwest. The positive sewage result can be due to shedding of the virus by someone who may have previously had the illness, with the virus ‘shedding’ through their system for up to six to eight weeks later. NSW Health continues to remind the community to be vigilant for symptoms and come forward for testing. Symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, tiredness, fever or loss of taste or smell can all signal COVID-19. After COVID-19 testing, you must remain isolated until a negative result is received. Find your nearest COVID-19 testing clinic here: https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW. Sewage testing for molecular markers of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, started in July, adding another tool in the fight against the global pandemic. There is no evidence COVID-19 is transmitted via wastewater systems.

01.01.2022 ** MVA ** Tonight crews responded to a car accident on Pitt Town Road. Fortunately, no one was hurt and the driver was unharmed. Crews had the road blocked for 45 minutes before the car was removed and the road was cleaned. Please be careful when driving at night, especially around flashing lights. Often our crews will be working on the road and with several bendy roads it can be very unknown what is around the corner.
