Grab a mate and bring them along to train with you any class and remember their first class is always free



23.01.2022 Graphic: a big box with the word GYM about to drop into it! Big box gyms are what I have always called the massive gyms that offer really cheap memberships and can take on over a thousand members. Now before I go on, yes there is a market for this.... and some of them may run a good moral business, however Many years ago I worked at one of these said gyms (before I actually entered the fitness industry) ... And it was a disgrace. Membership consultants that didn’t train themselves, knew very little about health and fitness and all they cared about was sales. They were paid crap and relied on sales to earn their wage. The Gym didn’t care whether the members actually ever used the gym and in fact it was better if you didn’t BC they could then accomodate selling more memberships. Lock in contracts were made impossible to get out of if you needed to cancel and fees were charged if your payment ever bounced. No one actually cared about the members . It was disgusting! Now I certainly will not be name shaming but it saddens me to learn years later nothing whatsoever has changed. Same company living by the same disgraceful philosophy! Nothing has changed. Not even the staff that hate working there can get out of their lock in contract. Yes my gym is a little more expensive, but after hearing this I have never been more proud of how I run my small box gym #rantover See more

22.01.2022 Are you including unilateral moves in your workout???? You should be ! . Two of my fav ones are single leg deadlifts and pistol squats. But let’s face it they are both pretty bloody challenging! So let’s start with a Bulgarian Split Squat. I get a lot of feedback (mostly swearing and whinging) when these are in our sessions , but they are seriously good for us. Having our back leg raised means we need more core stability to remain balanced and the front leg is forced to wor...k harder . Attention all runners you should absolutely be focusing on unilateral exercises!! And since most people became runners in lockdown you had better be incorporating unilateral strength exercises into your program . So enough of the feedback and try to learn to love them. Making the most of a low rep strength day and adding 16kgs to his chin ups (10kg vest and 6 kg bell between his legs) Strength days we go heavy and slow, so that on performance days we can go lighter and lightning fast Sometimes you gotta slow down to speed up ! Some days we go heavy and slow, some days we go light and fast. 21.01.2022 Boom with 3 weeks left to go till 2020 is done and I’ve reached my goal 28kg TGU! Now it was a little shaky and my second side ( my weak side ) was pretty rubbish but I’m taking it. I’ve got some time to make it look a little prettier but it’s still a win. Wasn’t sure if I should put this up with the sound on or off but I decided you needed to hear how much I struggled on the second side (amazing how you can still swear mid TGU ) and also how thrilled I was when I finished. #chasinggoals Thanks @sketz88 for once again having my back. 20.01.2022 Pre lockdown, I had just made it to a 24kg TGU ( with a spotter close by)with the hope of being fluent on a 28 by the end of the year. Then the gym shutdown! Nooooooo, what about my goal???????? . Obviously I kept up my TGU practice but only with a 18 or 20 kg bell. I was gutted thinking that my goal had been crushed and I was so far off reaching it.... Well day 4 back in the gym and I’m back to my 24kg and no spotter required. This was my last set so I’m pretty cooked and it’s a bit rough but I’m taking the win. My point ..... no matter what the setback in your life, it never has to mean the end of your goal. 19.01.2022 Remember a time circa 2019, early 2020 when we used to hang out at they gym, train people, drink coffee, chat Feels like a lifetime ago. I look back at all the photos taken in my first 12 months of business ( yep lockdown happened literally two weeks after our first birthday ) and think faaarrkk what a tough bloody year. And then I also think, but the memories make riding out this storm so very worth it. Whilst we are not together in the gym, KettleFitters are sticking together like KettleFitters do. We’ve nailed the ZOOM, we are still kicking butt, lifting heavy shit, getting fitaf, and drinking coffee together virtually rather in person. Sometimes also wine! And that consistency over the last couple of months has resulted in a 9% drop in body fat whilst gaining muscle. 18.01.2022 Injured or in pain????? Firstly, NOT normal and you shouldn’t try to normalise it Secondly, nine times out of ten probably caused by weakness, poor lifestyle (not training) or bad technique in or out of the gym So what are you doing about it? 1. Most commonly - just whinging and not doing anything about it ... 2. Second most common- shit your pants and stop strength training ( rookie error) 3. Go see someone and not do what they tell you . So here’s my top tips if you are injured or experiencing pain 1. Always listen to your coach re weight choices and technique #likealways 2. Seek out a good practitioner. A good one will explain clearly what they think is the problem, give you rehab exercises and talk to your coach (me) so I can safely continue to strength train you so eventually you’ll almost never be injured or in pain 3. Do the f*cking rehab work! Yes it’s god damn boring but it has to be done if you want to stop being in pain 4. Get strong #theend . Pain is not your default. A strong healthy mobile body is your default, but sometimes you need to reset. So this 2021 turn yourself off, wait 30 seconds and turn yourself back on and do what has to be done to function like you deserve

18.01.2022 WTF is that you say????? This is just one of our many performance sessions at KettleFit. Performance sessions are our signature sessions and completely unique to us. They are performed every Wednesday and Saturday and with several hundred in the portfolio there’s more variety than you know what to do with These sessions are what turn us into serious athlete’s, but absolutely anyone can start with them. We pick your starting challenge weights ( a weight that allows you to mo...ve fast with good technique and is lighter than your strength days) and you stay on those weights as long as you need to to get faster and faster on these days. Once I think you are ready I’ll graduate you to new challenge weights bit like progressing to a new belt in martial arts ! 13.01.2022 I’ve always avoided push up claps, because to be quite honest I’ve just always been happy just doing good push ups. But also I’d just actually convinced myself that I’d face plant. The fear of face planting stopped me from trying. I always tell others that you don’t know you can’t do something until you try! 13.01.2022 Back when you could train outside. I loved this day, they worked hard, I didn’t I just yelled stuff and back then super mum Amy was still training strong in pregnancy. Red hot chilli peppers were on and Edi gardens was buzzing! . A lot has changed since then.... we could no longer train outside so back we went to zoom, Amy had a beautiful baby and it feels like forever since I saw my gym and all my amazing members in the flesh. But fingers crossed from midnight Sunday park training will once again be allowed (even if it is only two people). Ps. Performance sessions we go lighter but faster and try and use the same weights for the entire session and hope to one day get al...l the way through the session (they are purposely made to be super hard to finish, so if you do it means you are ready to graduate to new challenge weights it’s a bit like gaining a new belt in martial arts! Well Sinead #1 2020 goal was to move to 16kg challenge weights and boom it’s official, the year is not yet over and she’s graduated to those gorgeous yellow sixteens Sinead #2 only joined the KettleFit post lockdown and has made her first graduation from 8kg to 10kg challenge weights after completing her first performance session last Saturday . 10.01.2022 Two things before you read on. Yes this TGU is messy as f*ck. And yes sound is off BC F bombs and lots of grunts But it’s also a PB so cut me some slack. . I’ve been laying off heavy TGU’s lately because a small knee issue ( hence the padding on the ground) had left me with very little confidence to go heavy, but today the warm up on 24kg felt good so I knew I had to go for 30kg Last PB was a 28 and today I hit 30kg. ... My strength session on a Tuesday was rat shit and I was pretty disappointed with myself. Today on the other hand I knew in an instant that it was gonna be a strong day. This reminded me to remember what I always tell everyone else. Not every strength day can be your best. . Show up, see how your body feels when you start lifting then go from there Ps. Our members know her as the one on the zoom that always suggests we do TGU’s in our Friday sesh #insidejoke But seriously, EM deserves a bit plus ALOT of praise. Em joined us in FEB and she just fit straight in cause #shesawesome. Then boom lockdown So off we sent her with 2 x 8kg bells for ISO training. They got a little dusty in ISO V1, but bring on ISO V2 and this lady went nuts. After avoiding performance sessions because they are bloody... tough / ridiculous sometimes she decided to step up the game, not only increasing sessions in general but taking performance sessions by the horn and this week absolutely smashed one of our toughest sessions out of the ball park. Not many people finish that sesh in the time allocated ( kettlefitters know what’s it means to finish a performance session in the time )Em now knows that feeling and it feels bloody awesome Aside from being fitter and stronger, her knee pain is disappearing and she’s feeling fab She’s also lost 18 kg since joining but that’s not our focus and I take zero credit for that. This lady puts in the work. She eats well, trains hard and does not give up. She takes advice and does the work. She doesn’t wish for it, she works for it and is achieving so much and we absolutely love having her on team Fitzy. 04.01.2022 So 8 sleeps to go until I can once again train legends like these outside A privilege that should never ever have been taken away from them or me. It’s well known that exercise is a fantastic anti anxiety and anti depressant activity. Some would argue better than pills and with no side affects. .... Now you might say well just do it yourself you don’t need a trainer Well yeah if you are like me that’s true. See I don’t have anxiety or depression, I’ve been training for so many years it’s an ingrained habit, I already know how good it feels so I don’t need help with it. Plus I know exactly what I’m doing . But any one who has ever experienced depression will know that getting off the couch can be hard work let alone training yourself. If I had a dollar for everyone crying out for a pt session with their trainer face to face, I’d be a squillianair ( no spell check for that ) At a time when mental health is at its most delicate a one on one pt session OUTSIDE with your trainer should have been an essential service. So many things we have had access to in the last 6 weeks (that decline our mental health might I add) (alcohol, junk food, cigarettes) but your personal trainer wasn’t one of them That’s my rant done, and I can’t wait to see the parks being used again for what will *in my opinion * always be an essential service #personaltraining

Today I feel less strong. So I’m Posting this as a tribute to my Dad and my Aunty who lost a brother today. My uncle. And to everybody in Victoria who has lost a loved one in ISO, unable to say goodbye and unable to attend funerals.
