25.01.2022 My pleasure to join Minister for Mines and Petroleum Bill Johnston MLA in Port Hedland today to officially launch the inaugural Austmine WA METS Digital Mining Export Hub. The virtual hub will enable WA to build export capacity, knowledge and opportunities between regional, remote and metropolitan small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Todays launch featured the first of a series of outreach activities designed to engage with the 1,700 METS businesses throughout the Stat...e. The virtual hub aims to initially provide services in Port Hedland, Karratha, Newman, Kalgoorlie and Bunbury. METS businesses are a vital part of the resource sector supply chain, and contributed an estimated $27 billion to the WA economy in 2018-19. The WA Government has committed $350,000 and in-kind support worth $50,000, through Invest and Trade WA, to establish this initiative. This is an exciting announcement for mining, equipment, technology and services companies in the Pilbara region. Theres no better time than now to identify new export opportunities for the sector, and use Western Australias digital capability to strengthen our economy. We were joined by Craig Banks (Austmine), Richard Sellers (Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation), Martin Collard (Austmine), Jeff Haworth (Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety), Jennifer Mathews (Commissioner for WA-Indonesia), and Peter Baldwin (Commissioner for WA-India).

It will also give young people the opportunity to get skilled up for jobs they know will be required for future work in their home towns, building a sustainable future for our Pilbara community. 24.01.2022 Had a brilliant evening opening the BCI Minerals office in Karratha. It was an honour to represent the Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTierman. The Mardie project located 100 kms from Karratha will be the largest salt operation in Australia, producing 5 million tonnes of salt per annum.... The Mardie project represents a whole new industry for the West Pilbara through the production of sulphate of Potash as a by-product. I would like to thank the Fedral Government for their NAIF funding of $420 Million Dollar loan towards the project and the State Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation who have acted as the lead agency. Congratulations to BCI Chairperson Brian O'Donnell, Managing Director Alwyn Vorster and Head of Corporate Affairs Angela Glover and wishing them all the best in the future.

23.01.2022 Stopped at Roebourne on my way to Port Hedland and dropped into the Ieramugadu Cafe for a coffee break. We were served by these two cheerful and courteous young people Dequarne Roberts and Leasha ngatii. I must say I was so happy to see them buzzing around serving people and they do a pretty good cup of coffee. Keep up the good work.

22.01.2022 A wonderful morning out at Wickham Primary School for Fathers Day breakfast at the Oval. Caught up with Brett Marshall, Program Coordinator from Wickham Primary School and the kids involved in the Robocup challenge. Its amazing to interact and listen to these kids. They are a very interesting group with so much passion for knowledge, Inovation and Technology. Its great to see these kids realise how technology, Inovation and Automation are going to play an important part... of their future and are preparing for the challenge. A very interesting point that the kids passed on to me was that their mums, dads and grandfathers have been sources of inspiration and help along the way. I am very happy to support this competition. Keep up the good work Mr. Marshall these kids have a great future because of your passion and encouragement.

22.01.2022 Have you gone for a drive on the Manuwarra Red Dog Highway yet? Go for a wander out yonder and explore our beautiful inland Pilbara.

22.01.2022 A brilliant morning in South Hedland Pundulmurra Tafe Campus with Minster for Education and Training The Hon Sue Ellery and the Hon Minister Stephen Dawson. The Architect has been appointed for significant Pilbara project MPS Architects appointed to North Regional TAFEs Pundulmurra campus upgrade Announcement made at the Hedland Careers Expo held at the Pundulmurra campus $22 million construction is expected to commence in January 2022... Local secondary school students, job seekers and career changers set to benefit from the new facilities The Minister for Education and Training, who was in the Pilbara today to open the Hedland Careers Expo 2020, has announced the appointment of MPS Architects for the new $22 million TAFE trades training facility at Pundulmurra campus. The upgrade will expand and consolidate trades training in plant mechanic and engineering trades as well as new commercial cookery training, to the benefit of local secondary students, job seekers and career changers. The planned refurbishment will involve extensive industry consultation to meet local resource sector training requirements. It is part of the McGowan Governments Rebuilding our TAFEs plan, which includes a record $167.4 million investment to fund upgrades to essential infrastructure across Western Australias five TAFE colleges. Todays Expo, organised by Bloodwood Tree Association (Bloodwood), was attended by 44 employers and service providers including BHP, FMG and Programmed, and more than 450 local secondary students. It is an example of the ongoing collaborative relationship between Bloodwood and North Regional TAFE, who also work with Empowering People in Communities (EPIC) to deliver training information and career development services throughout the region.

21.01.2022 PREMIER IN THE PILBARA The Pilbara is the engine of the States economy, and I am proud to work with Premier Mark McGowan to deliver this Recovery Plan to drive strong economic growth in our local economy. The Pilbara Recovery Plan will create local jobs while reinvesting in the communities that have kept the States economy strong, by upgrading schools, roads, housing and community services.... For more information, visit http://inthistogether.wa.gov.au

21.01.2022 Were recruiting for our local agriculture and hospitality businesses in the Pilbara. Our hard border is in place to protect West Australians, however this has placed additional challenges on some of our local agricultural, tourism and hospitality sectors that traditionally rely on interstate and foreign backpackers to fill seasonal jobs. We have launched the Work and Wonder Out Yonder campaign that is targeting young West Australians, encouraging... them to take action now and seize the opportunity to travel and work in regional WA. If you are looking for more staff for your business, or you are looking for work in the Pilbara, find out more at: www.WA.gov.au/workandwander

20.01.2022 Thank you to Karratha & Districts RSL & Social Services Inc, City of Karratha and The Pilbara Regiment - Australian Army for hosting the Remembrance Day Service this morning for the Karratha community. Great to see local schools and community groups represented here to show their support this morning. Due to Parliamentary sitting unfortunately I was unable to attend, thank you to my staff for attending and laying a wreath on my behalf. They shall grow not old, as we that are... left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

20.01.2022 Flying in workers from over east for jobs in our resources industry is no longer sustainable. The industry should be employing workers in WA or have east coast ...workers move to WA. Ive always believed that WA workers can get the job done. Thats why my Government has delivered new policies and laws to put WA jobs first, and its why Ive called on our resource companies to make this important change. It will mean more Western Australians will be employed in our resources industry and more of its benefits staying in WA. And as someone who relocated to WA when I was in the Navy, I can promise this to anyone who moves here: you wont regret it. I congratulate BHP on this decision, its good news for Western Australians and will result in a great outcome for our State. You can read the article in the graphic here: https://thewest.com.au//mining-giant-bhp-puts-west-austral

19.01.2022 Great to catch up with the team at Marlpa Waste Logistics to see the fantastic work they are doing in the Karratha community. They are a locally run, Aboriginal owned and operated waste reduction company constantly aspiring to improve our environment, limit landfill and expand into new recycling opportunities. The team discussed with me about their Organic Resource Recovery Facility. This project will help provide green waste services locally and to remote Aboriginal communit...ies, and utilising the organic waste for further commercial opportunities. The project is being made possible through a $57,000 Regional Economic Development grant from the McGowan Government. I am always looking forward to seeing how Marlpa will continue to innovate waste reduction across the Pilbara in the future. Keep up the great work!

19.01.2022 Great to catch up with Dan and the team at North West Brewing Co a fantastic local business brewing beer in the Pilbara. The company is on the verge of taking a whole new leap through the packaging and distribution of their iconic local brews throughout the Pilbara, and even planning to distribute throughout Western Australia. NWBC are already delivering cans to the Karijini Experience and to events around town.... I am proud to support Dan, Jack and the North West Brewing Co team, and that’s why the McGowan Government delivered a $185,000 Regional Economic Development Grant in 2019 to get the brewery up and going. The can design looks fantastic, and the beer is even better make sure you pick up a four-pack when you see it on shelves and support local Pilbara businesses.

19.01.2022 Premier Mark McGowan with an important COVID-19 update:

18.01.2022 Its been one week since we officially re-named Karratha-Tom Price Road in the Pilbara as Manuwarra Red Dog Highway. Manuwarra translates to heaps or masses... and is the Yindjibarndi name for the place known as Red Dog Gorge, which is located inside the Millstream Chichester National Park. Red Dog refers to the famous kelpie who is well known for his travels throughout the Pilbara region in the 1970s and was immortalised in the 2011 film. Weve just finished sealing 48 kilometres of the road that will improve safety and slash travel times for the mining and transport industry as well as tourists heading to the popular Millstream Chichester National Park and Karijini National Park. Stage 4 of the sealing project will commence in 2022. See more from the re-naming event in the video below!

17.01.2022 Brilliant weekend in South Hedland watching the Rovers and Swans play and then off to the Phillipino basketball tournament and thanks to Kelly Howlett and Peter Pope and my wife for coming out with me to do a bit off door knocking in the South Hedland. Thanks for your support guys.

17.01.2022 Our Government has made TAFE a priority. We reduced TAFE fees for 34 high priority courses by up to 50% from the start of this year. Our decision to make TAFE m...ore affordable has resulted in an additional 4,600 local students enrolling in those courses an increase of over 20%. Its particularly encouraging to see that slashing fees on these courses has been especially popular with younger students, with just under half of all enrolments undertaken by students aged 24 or under. In July this year, as part of the WA Recovery Plan, we announced fees for an additional 39 TAFE courses would be reduced by up to 72 per cent. As a result, we expect even more Western Australians to enrol in our TAFEs. TAFE is an important part of WAs recovery from COVID-19. Our training-led approach will prepare Western Australians to get back into jobs. And it will help to meet the economys immediate workforce needs following the impacts of the pandemic.

17.01.2022 The McGowan Government is keeping WA safe and strong.

17.01.2022 Thanks to The Department of Jobs, Toursim, Science and Inovation (JTSI) for arranging the WA Industry Link Communications Forum in Karratha yesterday. This event is an example of the State Governements desire to support regional development through an ongoing understanding of the aspirations of regional stakeholders and business and to offer support in realising contracting opportunities. The key objective of the forum is to provide businesses with the opportunity to present... your views on the policies and processes which aim to assist Pilbara businesses in the $27 Billion per annum State Government market place. These forums will be regular event and their captured outcomes being reported to the Premier Mark McGowan and Cabinet, so this is a particularly important time to capture your contribution. The improved Buy Local Policy will help stimulate the regional economy and is expected to create thousands of Jobs for Western Australians. The policy will make it easier for WA businesses particularly regional SMEs, when bidding for government contracts from the State Governements annual $27 Billion spend on goods, services and Works. The revised policy complements the successful implementation of the WA Jobs act and the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy in creating local jobs and boosting the states economy. The Premier recently released three new rounds from the Local Capability Fund to help COVID - affected businesses, The Local Capability Fund is designed to assist local businesses improve their capability and competitiveness to supply goods, services and works on government and major projects. Construction and sealing of this 48km section of road created more than 100 jobs, and will reduce travel times, improve road safety and open up tourism to Millstream Chichester National Park and Karijin...i National Park. Now that Stage 3 is complete, I am looking forward to working with the McGowan Government to deliver Stage 4 of this project that the Pilbara community has wanted for decades. Its time to #WanderoutYonder on the Manuwarra Red Dog Highway! 14.01.2022 I welcome BHP’s announcement that it will lower community fares on Alliance Airlines flights between Newman and Port Hedland. One-way fares will decrease to $299 on Perth-Port Hedland services via Alliance Airlines, and Perth-Newman routes. This announcement comes off the back of our $24.4 million commitment to assist aviation industry recovery from COVID-19.... It will allow more people to see our State and create more opportunities for tourism and local jobs.

14.01.2022 Western Australia has led the nation in our response to COVID-19. While we are seeing strong signs that WA is moving faster than expected, we know that some fam...ilies need some extra support as they get back on their feet. For households experiencing financial hardship as a result of the pandemic, were extending the moratorium on residential water and electricity disconnections, ensuring no family will have their water or power cut off if they cannot pay their bills. This is in addition to our $402 million commitment to freeze household fees and charges until at least July 1, 2021. Western Australians have done a remarkable job in responding to the pandemic. But were not out of the woods yet, and these important support measures will help ensure Western Australia is in a position to recover stronger than ever.

13.01.2022 I am excited to officially welcome PROK to the Pilbara community with the opening of their new specialist conveyor engineering facility here in Newman. PROK Pilbara will also focus on being a positive contributor to the local Pilbara community through providing support to local community and sporting groups. I look forward to working with PROK to create more local jobs for our local Pilbara communities, and I wish them congratulations on their recent opening.

12.01.2022 Happy 60th Birthday Kevin! From the Pilbara Electorate Office

12.01.2022 In the last few weeks, we've seen some really positive news out of Victoria about their battle against COVID-19 - with the State now recording zero new cases fo...r 11 days in a row. It's an absolutely incredible achievement, but particularly so in the context of other countries around the world, which are now seeing severe second wave outbreaks. Worldwide, well over 500,000 new cases of COVID-19 are now being reported daily - a rate higher than at any other point during the pandemic. It just isn't slowing down. A range of countries are now reimposing extremely strict restrictions - including full lockdowns - to try to get it under control - but in the meantime cases and deaths are growing rapidly. The good news we've recently heard about potential vaccines is welcome, but even in the best case scenario there is still a long way to go before they will be able to curtail the virus. Here in Australia we're continuing to register significant case numbers in hotel quarantine. It's been an important reminder of why we need to keep working hard to ensure that our quarantine systems are effective at containing the virus. With so many restrictions eased, just one case entering our community could be devastating, so we need Western Australians to continue to do their bit to keep the virus at bay. That means exercising good hygiene, keeping a distance from others where possible, staying home if you're sick and getting tested if you have symptoms. Together we can keep COVID-19 out of our community, and keep WA safe and strong.

12.01.2022 I have an important update in Western Australia’s legal fight with Clive Palmer: We have had another significant victory in court today and it is an important... step in killing off Mr Palmer’s $30 billion claim against WA taxpayers. As I’m sure you know, as well as trying to tear down the WA border against health advice, that have protected Western Australians from COVID-19, Mr Palmer was also trying to take $30 billion from our State. This is related to one of Mr Palmer’s iron ore projects in the Pilbara which he chose not to proceed with. If Mr Palmer was successful in his unprecedented and outrageous $30 billion claim, it would bankrupt our State. It would leave us in a dire situation. That’s why my Government introduced urgent legislation into the State Parliament. To protect all Western Australians, Mr Palmer had to be stopped. Predictably, he launched legal action against our legislation to try and continue his $30 billion claim. Today, the WA Government had a major win in the Supreme Court of Queensland which has removed a key component of Mr Palmer’s claim. This is another victory for all Western Australians. It follows our emphatic victory in the High Court against Mr Palmer’s attempts to tear down the hard border. Today’s decision once again vindicates our decision to take on Clive Palmer. I will always fight to protect Western Australians and keep our State safe and strong.

This was made possible by the 3 Health Services PAMS,Wirraka Maya and Mawankarra working together everyday to achieve better health outcomes for the most vulnerable people in our community, for Aboriginal men, women, children and families. The establishment of PAHA represents a new frontier in advocacy for Aboriginal health in our region.... I’am proud that the McGowan State Government supported the establishment of the PAHA through a Lotterywest Grant.
