20.01.2022 We are in the midst of something we have never experienced before and will hopefully never experience again. Basketballs on-court hiatus is in place to help us... flatten the curve of infection and ease the spread of the COVID-19 virus, this is the sacrifice that the community must make. Basketball will not be brought down by the current situation Basketball is our history and will remain our future. Make sure you support each other and remain patient. We will be helping you all in the coming months to stay active, engaged and connected. Skills are taught on court, but perfected at home Champions are made when no one is watching Basketball will be back. Were not going anywhere. #HoopsAtHome

19.01.2022 UPDATE AS AT 11:50 AM TODAY Hi All, So that everyone is kept in the loop, Basketball Australia and all of the States are meeting at lunchtime via phone hook-up to make a decision on whether or not Basketball is to be played moving forward.... Currently Basketball Victoria and the VJBL are following the governments advice that games are able to go ahead tonight, however this may change after the meetings at lunchtime. The VJBL will keep you posted as soon as we have any information. We will also provide information via our websites and social media once a decision has been reached. Regards Adrian Campbell Operations Manager VJBL

19.01.2022 Basketball Victoria CEO Nick Honey was in The Age yesterday talking about our return to sport and what will be required to get basketball back in action again once we get the all clear from government. Fingers crossed for a return to basketball in July #keysboroughcougars #cougars2020... #cougarpride #returntobasketball See more

18.01.2022 Please find the final version of the Basketball in Victoria Return to Sport Guidelines https://mcusercontent.com//BV_2020_ReturnToSport_Guideline We reviewed and considered the guidance provided from Sport & Recreation Victoria, which has helped finalise our return to play plans.... In providing these guidelines to the basketball community we wish to acknowledge that the actual stages of return to sport will ultimately depend on compliance with the Victorian Governments restrictions, as such, with each stage of easing of restrictions, Basketball Victoria will amend the guidelines as necessary. In addition, we will provide a shorter, summarised Return to Sport Guideline Snapshot for each stage of restriction (when lifted), which will be easier to interpret and specific to that current stage to ensure compliance measures are met. Currently we are strictly outdoor training as per guidelines. We have a long way to go.. Lets keep doing the right thing so we can get basketball back on track for 2020!! #bigv #basketballaustralia #keysboroughcougars #cougars2020 #covid19 #cougarpride #heartandhustle

18.01.2022 Latest from VJBL As of today, we have received the specific detail that we required to announce the return to indoor venues under the Orange 50 reactivation level for people 18 and under; and Orange 20 indoor and outdoor training for people 19 and over. Schools may provide associations and clubs access to shared school facilities for community basketball activity from Monday, 29 June, however, it is at the discretion of each school as to whether they open their facilit...ies from that date, or the start of Term 3. More https://bit.ly/BVcovid19 VJBL We are still aiming for a season return on July 17, however this is dependent on factors such as venue availability and Victorian Government travel advice or warnings with the current COVID-19 hotspot areas. We will be as flexible as possible, but the health and safety of the community is our highest priority. We will continue to provide further updates as soon as possible. Summary of Current Restrictions: For 18 years old and under full contact training and competition for both indoor and outdoor is possible from June 22. For 19 years and over non-contact training for both indoor and outdoor is possible from June 22. For 19 years and over full contact training for both indoor and outdoor (forecast for) July 13 For 19 years and over resumption of competition both indoor and outdoor (forecast for) July 20 Note: the forecast July dates are not confirmed, the Victorian Government will still need to finalise these dates in the coming weeks.

18.01.2022 Basketball Victoria COVID-19 Update - Monday 11 May The Victorian Government today announced some gradual easing of restrictions for Victorians that will come into effect on Tuesday 12 May from 11:59pm. While basketball is a predominantly indoor sport, there are a number of ways that people can participate in basketball activities utilising community accessible outdoor courts and open spaces. Importantly, this must be done with a maximum of 10 people in any group activi...ty, with no contact permitted, and applying social distancing and safe hygiene practices at all times. We appreciate the announcement doesnt allow for the use of indoor venues, however, we will continue to work with government to institute the appropriate guidelines that will see a return to indoor basketball at some stage in the very near future. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to be active through basketball outside in a safe and respectful manner under strict compliance with the governments new restrictions. For further information on our COVID-19 updates for leagues and domestic basketball, visit the Basketball Victoria website - basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19 #returntosport #bigv #bigvmens #basketball #covid19 #socialdistancing #outdoortraining #10paeticipants #washyourhands #disinfect #sanitise #strictcompliance #keysboroughcougars #cougars2020 #cougarfamily #cougarpride

17.01.2022 As of June 12, 2020 Guideline Level: WE ARE CURRENTLY AT RED-10 (Outdoor) until June 22 National Cabinet Announcement... We welcome the latest announcement (12/6/20) by the National Cabinet in regard to removing the 100-person capacity for indoor venues and instead, at Step 3 of the Federal Governments framework for a COVID Safe Australia, the rule of 1 person per 4m2 will apply to indoor venues. This approach is in line with Basketball Victorias Return to Sport Guidelines, allowing for stadiums to be evaluated based on their size and the number of courts. Many indoor sports and venue managers are concerned that limits of 20 people per space, and even 100 people per space, does not make it viable for a number of indoor basketball stadiums to open, however under this new approach announced by the federal government, it would provide far greater opportunities for the community to return to basketball. We look forward to the Victorian Government embracing this approach for future restriction levels, which we hope to have more information on later next week. June 22 Restrictions The current restriction level in Victoria for basketball is Outdoor Training RED-10. From June 22 restrictions will allow Indoor Training, although we are awaiting further clarification on rules relating to the number of people permitted per enclosed space: Indoor sports centres and venues can be opened with up to 20 people allowed per separate enclosed space, subject to the four square metre rule, with up to 10 people per group or activity When we have further details, we will update the next version of our Return to Sport Guidelines plus additional tools and signage to share with you. As always, the health, safety and well-being of our community continues to be our highest priority as we ensure our sport is able to return in a safe, manageable and prompt fashion. #bigv #basketballvictoria #covidupdates #returntosportguidelines #keysboroughcougars #cougars2020 #cougarpride #wereready

16.01.2022 Basketball Victoria acknowledges the Victorian Governments announcement today (July 7) of increased COVID-19 restrictions (return to Stage 3) for Metropolitan Melbourne (plus Mitchell Shire) from 11.59pm July 8 for a period of six weeks (August 20). While this announcement is disappointing for the return of community basketball for a large percentage of the Victorian population, the health and safety of the community is the most important focus for us all at the moment. We m...ust play our part to help curb the spread. ALL ASSOCIATIONS and DOMICILE PARTICIPANTS: July 9 to August 20 - Reactivation Status = RED 0 VJBL With the re-introduction of Stage 3 Restrictions for Metropolitan Melbourne, we unfortunately have no alternative but to cancel the 2019/2020 VJBL Championship Season. 12.01.2022 Update from VJBL Due to the uncertainty of interstate travel and the staged lifting of restrictions for a return to indoor sport, Basketball Victoria and the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL) have cancelled the 2020 National Junior Classic. With the 128-team tournament, featuring participants from the VJBL VC Divisions, Country Championships winners and interstate teams, due to take place over the Queens Birthday long weekend (6-8 June 2020), Basketball Victori...a looked at various options and future dates but have made the difficult decision to cancel the event and look forward to planning a greater event in 2021. We dont take this decision lightly and have waited as long as possible to make a decision surrounding the National Junior Classic, VJBL General Manager John Hilton said. Seeing the best of Victorian and Australian club talent come to Melbourne each June for the National Junior Classic is a highlight on the calendar and one we will unfortunately not get to showcase in 2020. With interstate travel requirements preventing most travel between states, it would preclude the ability of our interstate teams to participate. This coupled with the current conditions surrounding the return to indoor sports, it is logistically impossible to host the National Junior Classic to a sufficient standard this year. We look forward to seeing this event return in 2021 as well as seeing the VJBL return as soon as possible to complete the 2020 Championship season. For further updates on Basketball Victoria leagues and domestic basketball, visit the website: basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19

06.01.2022 Yesterday, the Victorian Government made announcements relating to the easing of restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this included allowing people to participate in outdoor activities or train in community sport in groups of up to 10 people (plus a coach / supervisor). Basketball Victoria supports this approach, as it recognises that sport and exercise play a critical role in the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of Victorians, but importantly this must be balan...ced with the risk of transmitting coronavirus. While this provides an opportunity for many of us to get back into participating in basketball outside of our home environment, Basketball Victoria wants to emphasise that how we all collectively act in the coming weeks will directly affect the health of our community and our sports ability to return to more regular indoor activity in the near future. We are being provided an opportunity to enjoy a level of sport and exercise outdoors in the short term, but we must not compromise safety, nor the reputation of the sport at this vitally important time. For those wishing to participate outdoors we suggest you refer to Basketball Victorias Outdoor Training Guidelines that have been developed in line with government restrictions and the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport. Should you choose to participate outdoors, have fun, but please do so in a safe and respectful manner. For a full update and guidance on outdoor activity / training - please visit http://basketballvictoria.com.au/covid-19/ #keysboroughcougars #covid19 #returntotraining #vjbl #maximum10people #outsideonly

04.01.2022 Basketball Victoria has further updates relating to domestic basketball and representative leagues, programs and events including VJBL, Big V and Country Championships. Due to Stage 3 restrictions and the extension of the State of Emergency (until 11 May) by the Victorian Government, the Autumn and Winter 2020 domestic basketball seasons are suspended until at least 31 May 2020. This date is being regularly reviewed and updated. Our primary concern remains the health and wel...lbeing of the basketball community and the return of grass-roots basketball when it is deemed safe and appropriate. With these two principles in mind, both Big V and VJBL have been postponed until 31 May with the next update set for 11 May. As previously announced, the NBL1 2020 season is cancelled. We hope to reschedule Country Championships, Under-14 Skills Days and Regional Academy where possible. At this stage they are postponed until 31 May with the next update set for 11 May. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult situation. For further information and regular updates please visit our COVID-19 page.

03.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE As the current environment evolves, Basketball Australia continues to prioritise the health and safety of the basketball community. Further to our recent communications and based on additional guidance from Federal Government (https://www.health.gov.au//australian-health-protectionpri) and our Chief Medical Officer Dr Peter Harcourt, Basketball Australia recommends all team and small group training ceases until further notice. This recommendation wil...l be reviewed in 30 days. Players are encouraged to continue to practise their individual skills (e.g. shooting base drills, ball handling, footwork etc) and fitness training (interval sprints, timed runs, skipping rope, body weight exercise etc) on their own. Coaches are encouraged to liaise with players via virtual means (phone, email, facetime, skype etc) and continue to provide individualised direction accordingly. Below are Basketball Australia links that can assist both players and coaches: http://coach.basketball.net.au https://coach.basketball.net.au/skill-checklists-overview/ https://coach.basketball.net.au/video/individual-skills/

02.01.2022 Basketball Victoria has made the decision to suspend Basketball Victoria related programs, events and leagues from now March 13, until further notice. This includes ALL VJBL games, Big V games and the Country Championships being held in Ballarat this weekend. As this is a rapidly evolving situation, we would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience as we work through this difficult period. This is a decision we dont take lightly and want to reassure the b...asketball community that we will continue to work with the Victorian Government and other health authorities to ensure the health and wellbeing of our players, coaches, referees and staff are maintained. Further updates will be provided in the coming days and weeks. We will release a public statement shortly. A further internal communication will follow regarding business continuity from Justine. Thank you,
