22.01.2022 MINDFUL TIPS | At the busiest time of year, your attention can be spread over a whole bunch of things, from your worries to Christmas lunch. Here are our 6 Mindfulness Tips to Help You gain a greater sense of presence and as the research suggests minimise any restlessness and distractions, so you can remain calm and more productive in life. 1. Focus on your breathing. Take time to practice deep breathing and as you do so, cast your wondering thoughts aside. 2. Take a nature w...alk. Not only is this good exercise but walking can help you re-focus on you. 3. Take Five: Take short breaks throughout your day if restlessness is an issue. Find a quiet space and pay attention to how your body feels rather than what you've been doing. 4. Remain focused on fewer tasks: Juggling too many balls in the air can be distracting. Limit the tasks you are doing at one time. 5. Take pen and paper: By putting your thoughts down on paper, you are able to better reflect on the situation and pay attention to your feelings privately and safely. This practice will help you track your mood over time. 6. Use Tech: If you are not used to practising mindfulness, online mindfulness apps will guide you through the process. Our favourites are Smiling Mind, Headspace, and Calm. Mindfulness is about being aware of what’s going on around you. It doesn’t mean that you have to practise for 20 minutes, as you practise and get better, you’ll notice that you’ll be attentive in your everyday life. #mindfulness #relax #massage #breathing #naturewalk

21.01.2022 RUNNER'S KNEE l Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) is a broad term used to describe pain in the front of the knee and around the patella (kneecap). It's sometimes called 'runner's-' or 'jumper's knee' because it's common in sportspeople, particularly in young adults, but PFPS can occur in non-athletes as well. In many cases, PFPS is caused by vigorous physical activities that put repeated stress on the knee such as jogging, squatting, and climbing stairs. It can also be caus...ed by a sudden change in physical activity. This change may be in the frequency, duration, or intensity of the activity. Changes in footwear used or surface the activity is performed on may influence PFPS. PFPS can also be caused by abnormal tracking of the kneecap in the trochlear groove on the femur. In this condition, the patella is pushed out to one side of the groove when the knee is bent. This abnormality may cause increased pressure between the back of the patella and the femur, irritating the soft tissues. Factors that contribute to poor tracking of the kneecap include problems with the alignment of the leg and muscular imbalances or weaknesses, especially in the glutes and quadriceps muscles. The most common symptom of PFPS is a dull, aching pain in the front of the knee. Other symptoms include pain during exercise and activities that repeatedly bend the knee, pain on the front of the knee after sitting for a long period of time with your knees bent and a popping or crackling sound in your knee when climbing stairs or when standing up after prolonged sitting. Massage and myotherapy treatments can help address the muscular imbalances in the hip and quadriceps associated with PFPS to assist in the healing of the soft tissues around the knee and get you back doing what you love, pain-free. #myotherapy #massage #remedialmassage #kneepain #sportsinjury

14.01.2022 NECK PAIN | Finally coming out of lockdown and getting back into the swing of things, all the at home work on the computer (maybe sitting at the dining table, z...ooming on a little laptop) slowly catches up with us, commonly causing neck pain and tension and often associated headaches. When our posture starts to lack, over time our neck extensors can become quite vulnerable to the added effects of gravity, as we start to hunch and stick out our chins, which places a lot more stress through our trapezius muscle as it tries to hold our head in an upright position. Due to this added stress, as the muscle tightens it can cause a feeling of tension and a loss of mobility in the neck. Typically, it has a referral pain pattern in the tops of the shoulders, up the neck, wrapping over the head and into the forehead and temples. This is what's called a tension-type headache. If this situation sounds all too familiar, the good thing is a massage or myotherapy treatment can help. Alleviating the tension through the trapezius muscle and other postural muscles, coupled with effective stretching and strengthening exercises to help assist your posture, we can resolve your pain and help you with preventing its return. Book your treatment session today at www.keysboroughmassage.com.au or contact us on 86584087. #workingfromhome #soreneck #soreshoulder #wellbeing #feelyourbest

11.01.2022 DELAYED ONSET MUSCLE SORENESS l Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is something everyone has probably experienced. Some feel the heaviest DOMS 24 hours after a workout, sometimes leg day can take up to 2 days before you really pay for it. Both are quite normal responses to exercise. DOMS is a perceived dull aching pain in the affected muscle, often combined with tenderness and stiffness. The pain is typically felt only when the muscle is stretched, contracted, or under tens...ion, not at rest. The mechanisms of DOMS aren't completely understood, but the pain is thought to be a result of contractile tissue microtrauma- muscle damage on a very small scale. DOMS is not lactic acid. Lactic acid is a by-product of cellular metabolism (producing energy) and typically clears within 1-hour post-exercise. The best workout may not cause the most DOMS either. Generally, it's a response due to the exposure to new movements and new ranges of motions. Massage and myotherapy can help significantly reduce DOMS and get you back exercising at full capacity sooner. Book your massage treatment session today at www.keysboroughmassage.com.au or contact us on 86584087. #DOMS #muscle #peakperformance #exercises #massage #massagetherapy #remedialmassage #myotherapy

01.01.2022 Nurturing Optimism: It is important to understand how keeping a healthy optimistic disposition is good for our wellbeing. Optimism is good for our health; it keeps us positive and can help us minimize stress and the health risks associated with it. Optimism is about having the tendency to expect the best possible outcome and focus rather on the most hopeful aspects of a situation. Today, practise this by explaining to yourself why you experience a particular event either positive or negative. If you find yourself having a more pessimistic view, then be mindful and practise optimism by taking notice how your body is reacting, savour a good moment/experience, find humour, be curious or open to something new, cultivate your gratitude and appreciation and select positive people/connections. #optimism #outcome #gratitude #wellbeing
