25.01.2022 I've been hearing a lot of productivity guilt lately! I think the beginning of a new year makes us reflect on the previous year and assess how well we did; how much we got done and what we accomplished. A lot of people around me are disappointed they didn't do more with their time- even though last year was incredibly tough for them! Don't feel guilty if the only thing you did last year was make it through. A huge amount of our energy and time was put towards balancing our mental and physical health through restrictions, quarantine, lock down, a lack of social interaction, grief and anxiety about the state of the world. Taking care of yourself IS productive!

23.01.2022 Have you tried Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) yet? I love using these natural medicines to keep up treatment effects in-between our sessions, as well as provide an extra boost to acupuncture sessions that might not be responding as quickly as I like. From a traditional sense, CHM is thought to help restore balance to the body and it's energies, and work holistically to do so. I like them to be easy-to-take and fit in to a busy schedule, so I mainly prescribe pills and... capsules. Ask me about herbal medicine in your next session if you're interested! See more

09.01.2022 Do you experience pain, PMS, bloating, mood swings or break outs around your time of the month? Despite what you’ve been told by doctors and our education systems, this is not normal! This is our body’s way of communicating with us that something is not right, and usually that means an imbalance of your hormones. In the clinic, I see many women for their menstrual health issues, and for them to experience pain-free, or mood swing-free periods for the first time is amazing...! With acupuncture, we work on the channels and organ systems to identify imbalance and promote correction through movement of Qi and Blood, Boosting of Yin and Yang, calming of the mind and more. We also check in on your hormones and other factors through a referred blood test to make sure we are on the right track with our treatments. Of course, there is nothing bad about using common medical interventions for your period issues. Traditional Chinese Medicine is however, a great natural alternative to pain killers, contraceptives and mood-stabilising meds that are often prescribed. If you’re looking for a more natural approach to your health needs, get in touch! See more

07.01.2022 Stress and jaw pain Stress causes many people to subconsciously clench their jaw, which can create more pressure within the jaw and temporo-mandibular joints, as well as tension in the local muscles. Symptoms of jaw issues may include clicking noises when opening and closing the mouth, lock jaw and difficulty and/or pain when eating certain foods. Many people also experience other related symptoms such as headaches, neck pain and ear pain. ... Here's some my my top tips to prevent jaw issues: - Try to reduce stress levels! This is key when your jaw pain is directly related to your emotional wellbeing. - When sitting, avoid resting your chin or face on the palm of your hand, which places unnecessary pressure on the jaw. - Avoid chewing gum. - Try to avoid sleeping with your hand directly under one side of your face. - Get acupuncture! In the clinic, I use my super-thin needles to release the jaw, aiming to reduce inflammation and tension locally. It is also important to work holistically and address emotional stress with acupuncture and/or herbs. See more

02.01.2022 Working from home got your neck and shoulders all tight and sore? You’re not alone! This is something I’m seeing daily now, and it’s coming up a lot for people whose ergonomic setup isn’t quite what it was in the office. Long hours sitting slumped at our dining tables, in hard, unsupportive chairs is bound to tighten up our upper bodies! Get in contact to loosen up with some acupuncture and cupping

01.01.2022 Skin care isn't all about what you put on your skin. You have to think about what is happening inside your body too! Here are some of my top simple tips to get you glowing from the inside out! 1. Hydrate! We should be drinking approximately 1L per every 25kg of our weight (e.g. approx 2L for a person weighing 50kg), and we need even more if we are active and sweating throughout the day. In TCM, we prefer room temp or warm water . ... 2. Eat a variety of skin-loving foods! You can start with a diet high in fruits and veggies, which are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help to nourish and protect your skin from cellular damage. Food high in beta-carotene, such as sweet potato, carrots and pumpkin are great for sun damage and skin appearance. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can support the immune system, promote cell repair and give you a radiant glow- eat lots of blueberries, kiwi, oranges, papaya and capsicum. Healthy fats are packed with fatty acids to help your skin retain moisture and reduce fine lines an wrinkles. Think foods like salmon, chia, walnuts, cashews, hemp, avocado and olive oil. 3. Support detoxification in your body by supporting your bowels and liver. Make sure you are pooping regularly to excrete toxins through your bowels- keep an eye on your diet and fibre to assist this. Add in lots of green tea and cruciferous veggies, such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage and kale, which help your liver to clear toxins in the body. 4. Manage stress and take care of your mental health! Stress stimulates the production of stress hormones, which can encourage the breakdown of collagen, leading to fine lines and wrinkles. Stress is also linked to acne, inflammation and oily skin. Find ways to manage your stress, whether it be therapy, exercise, meditation etc. 5. Ensure you are getting enough good-quality sleep! Sleep is a time for detoxification and cellular repair, so ensuring you are sleeping well is key in supporting all the night-time bodily processes that contribute to good skin. See more
