17.01.2022 The Pimpama Sports Hub is coming to the northern Gold Coast. With the population expected to more than double by 2036, the City is gearing up to provide a range of sporting and social infrastructure to existing and future residents. Our goal is to make the northern Gold Coast one of the most liveable and desirable areas of the city. We are committed to delivering this sporting and community hub so it can become a place for residents and visitors to engage in social, cultural,... recreational and educational activities like never before. Pimpama Sports Hub will be built on a 14-hectare site on the corner of Rifle Range and Bull Roads. It will provide a state-of-the-art aquatic centre with Olympic standard swimming pool, much needed netball and tennis facilities, and recreational and sporting options for surrounding schools and residents. Multipurpose meeting spaces and a large events park for gatherings such as Carols by Candlelight, markets and outdoor cinema, will also form part of the precinct.

10.01.2022 There are more germs on a dollar coin, than a recently cleaned toilet seat. Likewise, research has shown that the average $1 coin in circulation harbors more ba...cteria and viruses, both harmless and potentially harmful, than a regularly-cleaned toilet seat. Banknotes can provide a cosy home for the winter vomiting virus Noro-virus, aka the winter vomiting bug, is environmentally stable and tough as nails the virus can survive everything from freezing to being doused in disinfectant and, as might be expected, can survive and remain infectious for up to (2) two entire weeks on a banknote. Money can make you sick A 2014 review of relevant studies concluded that banknotes, and to a lesser extent coins, have the potential to transmit harmful pathogens, especially if handled along with food. Polymer (All plastic Australian, Euro & UK notes) notes may provide the ideal breeding ground for drug-resistant superbugs The same study found that polymer banknotes may provide the perfect breeding ground for scary superbugs such as MRSA and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). The superbugs survived for a worryingly long time on these banknotes. The flu virus can survive on a banknote for up to 17 days Got a case of the flu or sickness? The banknotes in your wallet/purse could be to blame. A team in Switzerland found that human influenza virus can survive on banknotes and remain infectious for up to 17 days. One in seven English banknotes contain faecal matter (Australian notes are made of the same plastic materials as the UK, and Very likely have similar results) Guaranteed to gross you out the next time you reach in your wallet/purse for a note one in seven English banknotes and a similar proportion of US dollar and euro notes contain traces of faecal matter (poo) , in most cases from people not washing their hands and then handling their notes / or coins. Banknotes are the most heavily contaminated with germs & bad bacteria (showing prevalence of potentially dangerous pathogens per banknote, according to scientific studies - some harmful, some less so.) Notes issued by the Bank of England tend to have the highest microbial loading, or the number of micro-organisms contaminating an individual banknote. The average reading per banknote is four log cfu measurement, which is relatively high / causes sickness/disease. Many have tested positive for staphylococcus aureus, a potentially dangerous pathogenic bacterium that can cause serious food poisoning in susceptible individuals. Most dollar bills are teeming with bacteria You'd be hard-pressed not to handle a US dollar bill that wasn't teeming with microbes. Tests have shown that as many as 94% of dollar bills in circulation are contaminated with high levels of bacteria Romanian banknotes have the highest prevalence of dangerous pathogens While English banknotes have higher microbial loads, much of the bacteria and viruses on the notes are completely harmless. The Romanian leu, on the other hand, has the highest The average European banknote is home to 26,000 colonies of bacteria (the Euro notes are the same material as the Australian notes and are expected to have the same results) A study from the University of Oxford found that the average European (plastic/polymer ) banknote contains 26,000 bacterial colonies, including virulent strains such as E.coli and salmonella that can cause acute food poisoning. Polymer banknotes are three times cleaner than regular (USA) bills While polymer bills can harbor dangerous superbugs, generally plastic banknotes are three times more hygienic than regular cotton or linen-based 'paper' bills and home to fewer bacterial colonies overall, according to a study by Harper Adams University in the UK. Banknotes can harbor and spread hepatitis-C Cocaine and other drug users who share banknotes to snort their drug of choice could be putting themselves at risk of contracting hepatitis-C. "Sharing banknotes or rolled note-straws is a significant risk factor that people need to be more aware of, warns Professor Graham Foster, of St Mary's Hospital, London. The ebola virus can survive on a banknote for up to 30 days During the relatively recent ebola outbreak in West Africa, researchers indicated that banknotes may help facilitate the spread of the disease, particularly in hospitals. In a related study, the virus was found to remain infectious for up to 30 days on banknotes contaminated with ebola-infected blood. Moldy notes and coins may pose a health risk for some people Paper banknotes and coins may turn moldy in damp conditions and, while unlikely, the fungal spores produced by the molds may pose a health risk for people with mold allergies or impaired lung function. Coins are more hygienic than banknotes, although Coins can still carry dangerous pathogens An influential study carried out by US researchers in 1972 found that 13% of the randomly selected coins tested carried potentially pathogenic bacteria and viruses, including staph and proteus bacteria. In terms of microbial load, coins are much cleaner than banknotes. A typical coin may harbor up to 1,000 bacteria, while a note might contain several million germs, according to a study conducted by scientists in the Netherlands. Coins contain antibacterial and antiviral metals such as copper and, as a result, tend to carry far fewer bacteria and viruses than banknotes, which thrive on the textile material many notes are made from.

05.01.2022 Beat the Australian Heat and Stay Safe! Today we reflect on the horrific incident that took place and the loss of a little life. Our hearts go out to the family and the community and we want to remind our families how seriously we take the health, wellbeing and safety of our precious little ones. At Kidi Kingdom Child Care we pride ourselves on protecting the health and well being of every individual child in our care and ensure we maintain the highest quality of safety pract...ices. This harsh Australian heat can provide devastating consequences, so we need to ensure we take care of ourselves and each other. Here are some simple steps to help combat the heat: Stay in cool and air-conditioned buildings as much as you can. Contact your local health department or locate an air-conditioned shelter in your area. Air-conditioning is the number one way to protect yourself against heat-related illness and death. If your home is not air-conditioned, reduce your risk for heat-related illness by spending time in public facilities that are air-conditioned and using air conditioning in vehicles. Do not rely on a fan as your main cooling device during an extreme heat event. Drink more water than usual and dont wait until youre thirsty to drink. Check on a friend or neighbor and have someone do the same for you. Dont use the stove or oven to cook, it will make you and your house hotter. Check cars and minibuses to ensure everyone has left the vehicle, these become very hot very quickly.
