15.01.2022 This week has proven how important contact registers and SafeWA are as we continue to tackle this pandemic. And especially over the coming weeks, until we can h...ave absolute confidence that we have no community transmission, they are going to be more important than ever. Until now, the onus to ensure patrons sign in using SafeWA or a contact register has sat with venues. At 6pm tonight, that will change. From then, the onus for doing the right thing and signing in whenever you go to a venue that requires it will be shared between the venue and patrons - and failure to do so could attract a fine of $1000. Authorities will be applying common sense, but I'm asking all Western Australians to do the right thing here: If you go out, you need to sign in.

12.01.2022 WELCOME DJERAN If you’ve noticed a cooler change in the weather this week, you won’t be surprised to hear it’s the beginning of a new season, Djeran. Djeran ...is one of the six Noongar seasons, typically experienced in April and May. This time of year was traditionally a time for mia mias (houses or shelters) to be repaired and updated to make sure they were waterproofed in readiness for the deep wintery months to come. Unlike the meteorological seasons we use in Australia, the Noongar seasons do not have a fixed date instead determined by environmental indicators. Here’s a couple of things in the environment to keep an eye out for to know Djeran is on it’s way, according to Noongar elder Noel Nannup. The wind change. Noel says there’s a distinctive change in the wind from north-east to south-west (that’s happened this week). Blooming gums and banksia’s. Keep an eye out for the off-white flowers of the marri, as well as the flowering red-gum in the south-west and the ‘summer flame’ banksia in the central-west. Animal movements- Noel says this time of year the pelicans will migrate. You may also notice fewer spiders as the weather cools down and flying ants with the light winds. Read more about the Noongar seasons from our Perth weather reporter Tyne Logan: https://ab.co/3sw3egS

02.01.2022 We want to wish a happy & hoppy Easter to all the families in our community! We hope your weekend is full of family, fun and toasty hot cross buns.

02.01.2022 All this year, when we've faced an important decision to keep WA safe from COVID-19, we've followed the health advice, and it has served us well. We've worked t...ogether, we've all done our bit, and we've kept WA safe and strong. But we're not out of the woods yet. The COVID-19 pandemic is worse than ever around the world, and an outbreak is still a real threat. So today I need to ask, once again, for all Western Australians to follow the health advice. We’re implementing the precautionary measure of mandatory contact registers at a range of venues and businesses across WA - starting next Saturday, 5 December. It’s a decision we’ve made following consultation with industry and in consideration of the long term challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Having contact registers will mean, in the event that we do have cases of COVID-19 in the community, that our team of contact tracers can act quickly to identify people who might have been exposed. And as we've seen in other outbreaks, that is one of our most important safeguards. It's a slight inconvenience, but it's really not a big ask. Signing in on a contact register only takes a few moments, or just seconds if you are using the SafeWA app. Those few seconds could help prevent an outbreak from spreading - and that could literally save countless lives. The restrictions we've seen this year haven't been convenient, but they have worked. So I'd like to thank everyone in WA for their efforts through this crisis, and I’d like to thank you all for your continued patience as we address these ongoing challenges in the months ahead.
