24.01.2022 Take a look at these maps which track the firefighting aircraft working on the K’gari (Fraser Island) fire over the past couple of days. On Monday alone, three... amphibious water bombing aircraft delivered 129 loads of firefighting gel! A huge thank you to our aerial teams, providing invaluable support to the ground crews from QFES and our partners.

24.01.2022 Queensland’s aerial firefighting capability has soared to new heights with the addition of a Large Air Tanker (LAT) to the QFES fleet. The LAT is based at Bunda...berg Airport and can operate at many regional airports throughout the State. It can travel about 670km/hr and land with 80% of its load on board. The LAT weighs in at around 31,000kg and it has a retardant capacity of 10,000L! Check out this video to see the LAT in action at the official launch today.

23.01.2022 This shows the danger when Aircraft drop a load on a fire they carry 3000ltrs of water, Water Foam mix, or Water Gel mix which weighs about 3 tons it can bring down branches trees so. Firebombing aircraft use a siren to alert an imminent water drop. IF YOU HEAR THIS SIREN MOVE AWAY IMMEDIATELY! Your safety is paramount. IF YOU HEAR THIS SIREN MOVE AWAY IMMEDIATELY!

21.01.2022 The updated Info on Covid 19 and restrictions for greater Brisbane and Areas and QLD

20.01.2022 **This bushfire warning is no longer current please refer to the QFES Facebook page for updated information** PREPARE TO LEAVE: Kingfisher Bay Resort and Villa...ge (part of the K’gari, Fraser Island bushfire) as at 1.20pm Tue 1 Dec Bushfire warning level: WATCH AND ACT Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advises there is a bushfire near the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village on K’gari (Fraser Island) and conditions could get worse. There is a separate warning for residents on K'gari (Fraser Island). Residents should refer to this warning for further information. Any person at the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village should follow the directions of Queensland Fire and Emergency Service or Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service officers. You need to be ready to follow your bushfire survival plan. If you do not have a plan, or intend to leave, you should be ready to leave the area because the situation could get worse quickly. Currently as at 1.20pm Tuesday 1 December, a bushfire is travelling from Boon Boon Creek south towards the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village. Extensive waterbombing is continuing to slow the spread of the fire. Fire crews are working to contain the fire but firefighters may not be able to protect every property. You should not expect a firefighter at your door. People in the area will be affected by smoke, which will reduce visibility and air quality. Call Triple Zero (000) immediately if you believe your property is under threat. WHAT YOU SHOULD DO: Listen to your local radio station or visit the Rural Fire Service (RFS) website for regular updates. If you have a bushfire survival plan, finalise it now so you are ready to follow it. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, or if your plan is to leave, identify where you will go if you leave the area. Advise family and friends of your plan. Close windows and doors to minimise smoke exposure. If you suffer from a respiratory condition, keep your medication close by. Drive with caution in low visibility conditions. Contact your neighbours to see if they need help preparing for the bushfire. Pack important documents and essential items (e.g., passports, birth certificates, prescription medication, food and water, and protective clothing) in case you need to leave the area. Put on protective clothing (e.g., a long-sleeved cotton shirt, boots with thick soles). Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Bring pets inside; restrain them with a leash, a cage, or inside a secure room; and provide them with plenty of water. Take action to protect your livestock. Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins, and outdoor furniture away from your house. Fill containers such as your bath, sinks, and buckets with water so you have access to drinking water and firefighting water. Close windows and doors, sealing the gaps under doors and screens with wet towels to keep smoke out of the house. 17.01.2022 TASSIE DEVIL ON THE LOOSE AFTER ESCAPING SUNSHINE COAST ZOO A Tasmanian devil is on the loose in the Sunshine Coast after busting out of her enclosure at Wildli...fe HQ. Zoo keepers discovered Vee the Tassie devil was missing yesterday after a branch fell into her enclosure at the Woombye zoo. She used the branch to make her great escape into rainforest surrounding her enclosure, and zoo keepers are hopeful she's still there. Zoo CEO Jarrod Schenk said keepers were using heat-detecting instruments last night out in the rainforest to try and find Vee. "As the trees cool down of an evening, they're really good at showing up heat signatures," he said. "There's plenty of brush-tail possums and sugar gliders and other wildlife, but so far no Tassie devil." They also have traps filled with wallaby roadkill - Vee's favourite food - to try and lure her home. He was not sure how far she might roam. Tasmanian devils did not have natural predators, but if Vee chewed on a cane toad it could make her really sick. Mr Schenk said he was confident no one would stumble across Vee, but if they did spot her, phone the zoo. "The main thing to remember is that she is very shy and reclusive, we don't think she would actively go near people," he said.
