12.01.2022 Residents in Wedderburn, Fentons Creek, Kurraca, Elphinstone, Taradale, Chewton and Fryers Ridge may see or smell smoke from the re-ignition of the Wedderburn a...nd Elphinstone planned burns that is well underway. Around 90ha at Wedderburn Holts Lane and about 70ha at Elphinstone Tunnel Hill Track will be ignited today. These burns are focussed on reducing the spread and intensity of bushfires near Elphinstone, Wedderburn and surrounding areas. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern, and we want to avoid significant impacts on the health of the community. Under the current health advice, our planned burning program can continue as normal for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary, in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. 11.01.2022 Bushfire/Grassfire Grassfires can start anywhere and spread quickly. Reduce your risk when it’s safe to do so. Slash, mow, graze and spray grass near your hom...e and assets, and create fuel breaks. Take care when using chainsaws, lawnmowers, tractors, welders and other machinery on warm days they can all start fires accidentally. If you’re caught in a grassfire move to somewhere with minimal vegetation, such as a ploughed or well-grazed paddock. www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/grassfires-rural
