25.01.2022 This mornings baking. Greg made the bread on the left - his own secret recipe! He and Ray have been making bread for the last month as we had so much flour, we thought we had better use it up! Otherwise we would have to take it with us when we eventually go. And on the right is Pineapple and Ginger loaf - out of my cookery book, page 140 for those who have it. Smoko tomorrow, and the next day and the next day and then into the freezer with what's left of it. Whatcha all doing this weekend?

23.01.2022 Good morning troops! 9.30 here and already 37 degrees. I feel like I have already done a days work, so taking 5 minutes off to have a gander on FB. What's happening at your place today??? We also have a really strong northerly wind here today which is making it difficult to water lawns and gardens. Greg is out mending a trough and pushing dirt up to create a flatter surface around it so it doesn't leak. For the new peoples cattle.

23.01.2022 Some of our incredible wildflowers! There's just so much natural beauty here at Kilcowera Do you have any photos of our wild flowers? Show us in the comments below

22.01.2022 #outbackdustytrails has been on the job lately, documenting the fabulous season we are having here at Kilcowera!

22.01.2022 Look at this little guy! Isn’t he just perfect? No wonder he’s called the Splendid Fairy Wren. He truly is God’s little creation. It makes my heart sing to see them flitting around in the bush! #outbackaustralia #birdwatching #birdwatchingaustralia #birdsofinstagram

19.01.2022 The updated road report from our local council. Our road is now officially open!

19.01.2022 Somebody asked for more flowers so here they are! Thanks Bob for the close up of the little daisy! The wildflowers are STUNNING at the moment. And have been for 2 months! It's a joy to be here!

19.01.2022 It’s the people you meet along the way, the sense of community in the locals, and the peace drawn from the wide open spaces that makes this part of the world unique and special.

18.01.2022 These Ptilotus are still looking spectacular in the mulga flats. The ones in the more open aspects are starting to dry out. There’s a lot of vegetation at the moment which is great to see! #outbackadventure #therealoutback #experienceoutbackqueensland #bushcamping

16.01.2022 Look honestly with this list of tips and tricks - you can't go wrong!

16.01.2022 PIPELINE RECOMMENDATIONS Being a humorous look at purchasing pipes for Council's Flood Mitigation Works. As an aid to our customers the following is a list of standard instructions for laying waterlines and other such pipes around the drill or drainage site. Naturally, each site requirement or customer preference will cause variations, as such the following list is only offered as a general rule for pipe selection.... 1. AII pipe is to be made of a long hole, surrounded by concrete, metal or plastic. 2. All pipe is to be hollow throughout the entire length. Do not use holes of different length than the pipe. 3. The inside diameter of all pipe must not exceed the outside diameter of the pipe - otherwise the hole will be on the outside of the pipe. 4. All pipe is to be supplied with nothing in the hole, so that water, steam or other stuff can be put inside the pipe at a later date. 5. All pipe over 500 feet in length should have the words "Long Pipe" clearly painted on each end so that people will know that it is a long pipe. 6. Pipes over 3.2 km in length, in addition to the above, must also have the words "Long Pipe" clearly painted in the middle so that people will not have to walk the entire length of the pipe to determine if it is a short or a long pipe 7. All pipe over six inches in diameter must have the words "Large Pipe" clearly painted on it so that people will know that it is a large pipe. 8. Flanges should be used on all pipes. Flanges must have holes for bolts. These holes must be quite separate from the big hole in the middle. 9. When ordering 90, 45 or 39 degree elbows, be sure to specify right or left hand, otherwise you will end up going in the wrong direction. 10. Be sure to specify to your supplier whether you want level, uphill, or downhill pipes. If you use downhill pipes for going uphill, the water will flow the wrong way. 11. All couplings should have either right hand or left hand thread. DO NOT mix the threads, otherwise the coupling being screwed on one pipe is unscrewing from another. 12. When dealing in metal pipe, all pipe should be supplied without rust; this can be more readily applied at the job site. (Note: Some vendors are now able to supply pre-rusted pipe. If available in your area, this new product is recommended as it will save a great deal of time on the job site.)

16.01.2022 This is the watercourse that fills Red Hole ~ so called because of the colour of the water and the soil ~ it’s a beautiful spot! #outbackqueensland #bushcamping #outbackbirds

16.01.2022 A young Major Mitchell checking out a prospective hollow. Now the Missus has gotta approve!

16.01.2022 It's the simplicity of the open outback that creates the most unforgettable moments. Experience the beauty of the Australian outback at Kilcowera Station this Autumn season.

15.01.2022 Every year my big Albizza lebbeck loses ALL its leaves and I anxiously wait for it to come good again. As every day goes by I’m thinking it’s dead, it’s never going to sprout again!. And then the little green shoots start and within a week it is flowering! Relief!!! It’s a beautiful tree and the flowers smell fantastic early in the mornings for about a month. I love it! #therealoutback #seeaustralia

14.01.2022 A little family enjoying the morning sun! #outbackbirds #birdwatchingphotography #outbackqueensland #bushcamping

12.01.2022 Looking for a gift?? Need some inspiration? Do you collect recipe books? How about you grab one of my very own recipe books? $30 each and $10 for postage. I can put 2 in a satchel, so if you buy 2 ( one for you and one for a friend! ) it's still only $10 for postage. Or pick one up from the Station when you visit us!!

12.01.2022 It's so wrong!!! Whatever did happen to the trendy concept of food miles? Doesn't matter when we go shopping? Think of that some other time? The first 3 paragraphs are mind boggling! Can't we make stuff here??? We used to. Dairy from NZ? Why?

10.01.2022 Here's a nice pic that a visitor gave us of his setup camped down by our lagoon. Looks lovely doesn't it? Unfortunately no one is going to be camping here for the foreseeable future as the council has closed our road for all traffic other than local traffic. If you would like to have a chat to the council about the road closure and when it may be opened again here's the number to ring - 4621 8095. We are so sorry that all the people who have booked to come in, in the next few days won't be able to make it after the long drive you have done to come and see us at Kilcowera. And roads that are still closed by the Bulloo Shire Council, Friday afternoon, rarely, if ever are reassessed over the weekend.

08.01.2022 What would we do without the RFDS? It would be living too dangerously that's for sure!

07.01.2022 Here you go! A little puzzle for your morning. Find 7 people and a cat!

07.01.2022 Greg’s off to work. This is after checking a pipeline and troughs and finding the inevitable split in the pipe that needed mending first. Yesterday we were out putting hay out to encourage some cows into another paddock. But today it’s grading for him and watering gardens and lawns for me. Just another day in paradise! #therealoutback #seeaustralia #outbackadventure

06.01.2022 It's really hard to find nice plants that will grow in our climate, it being so dry usually and hot and cold and then throw in the bore water that we use for watering. This little tree has been outstanding though, it's only been in about 4 years and seems to love it's location. I have planted 3 more of them and they look like they won't make it - they just don't grow. It's a Tipuana Tree. I know, I know some of you will say they can become nuisances, grow wild all over the place, but just between you and me - that's the only things that grow here! Apart from our lovely River Red gums and eremophillas.

05.01.2022 Today we loaded the quad bike onto the Toyota, went for a drive out to the east, unloaded the bike and set off through the bush for a few kms, then left the bike and walked the last few hundred yards to Bendy Hole a waterhole in Benanga Creek in our Lake paddock. Greg showed me this spot way back in the 80's and I haven't been back there since. I wanted to go back and take some photo's of the old Chevrolet that someone parked there, who knows how many years ago, took the ke...y out and walked away from it. I wonder what they were thinking? Why leave it there? How many people know where it is? Probably just Greg and me now. So peaceful and quiet out there the only sounds, the wind, the squarking of the disturbed Corellas in the River Red Gums lining the banks of the creek and a mob of billy goats streaking off through the bush. #bushcamping #experienceoutbackqueensland #therealoutback #outbackadventure #seeaustralia See more

04.01.2022 26 mms here this morning. More wonderful rain!! The wildflowers will be celebrating! Sorry, but no visitors to the station until at least the end of the week. There may be more rain to come too....there is still thunder rumbling around. Poor Maisie is beside herself!

03.01.2022 So, a nice start to summer coming up this week. What does Toni do when the weather is like this? Well I spend an awful lot of time moving sprinklers, watering lawns, trees, the shrubs and vegetable garden. With 9 taps and hoses sometimes it feels like I was born with a hose in my hand. We are so lucky to have lots of water - I know that for a fact! But dragging myself around in the middle of the day when it's 45 degrees is no joke! Mustn't forget the chooks either they have an overhead sprinkler system to keep them a bit cooler on days over 40 degrees.

03.01.2022 ROAD FROM CUNNAMULLA TO THARGOMINDAH IS NOW OPEN! See you all soon at Kilcowera

02.01.2022 Here's a little introduction to our place - why don't you come and see for yourself? Please share if you like our video!!
