22.01.2022 Artist of the Month (AOM) KASI's April AOM, the Sunshine Coast Art Group (SCAG), have held a group membership with KASI for several years. The SCAG artists exhibiting include Madeline Herbert, Sue Phillips, Stig Holmstrom and Don Woodley. They are presenting a beautiful collection of paintings and a mixed media piece by Don Woodley. The collection takes you on a trip from Queensland, NSW and on to Europe. So in these times of restricted travel, take yourself on a visual journey instead by viewing SCAG’s collection on KASI’s feature wall at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during April!

19.01.2022 OCTOBER ARTIST OF THE MONTH Welcome to Dr Dawn Evans, October’s AOM. Dr Dawn is also the Vice President of the Kilcoy Art Society Inc (KASI). Dr Dawn has enjoyed art in its many forms since childhood. Having dabbled in art lessons in the United Kingdom, when she returned to Sydney, Dr Dawn took up lapidary, faceting and silver smithing, designing and making many pieces. ... After moving to Queensland, Dr Dawn settled on her deer farm at Monsildale, which increased her interest in anatomy and she then started recycling the bones and antlers found on the property into wearable art, designer carving for home decoration as well as a place at the Abbey Medieval Festival at Caboolture where her art form has become popular. Since retiring from medical practice, Dr Dawn has been working on skill development with drawing, painting and photography, with particular interest in compositional excellence. This development has led to her acquiring many awards both in art and photography. Dr Dawn has now chosen a contemporary enigmatic style of painting to express her creativity and her love of nature. This, together with her long career as a General Practitioner has resulted in a deep understanding of the human condition. She has experimented with various media: Oils, acrylics, charcoal, watercolour, watercolour pencils, graphite, silverpoint and photography. As a result, Dr Dawn is able to express various moods and soft depths of the natural environment. She has gradually moved away from literal translations into an enigmatic fantasy of her own creation, depicting nature with a unique twist, sometimes quirky, sometimes humourous, with hidden innuendo and a generous helping of unabashed honesty! Are you curious? Come visit the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during October and view Dr Dawn Evan’s artwork on the gallery’s feature wall. You won’t be disappointed! The Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery is presently open 9am to 1pm - Friday to Monday and is located in Yowie Park, Kilcoy.

14.01.2022 Artist of the Month: Thank you to Dr Dawn Evans for being KASI’s AOM for October. Dawn’s exhibit showed she is adept at painting a wide range of subjects including (often quirky) still life, landscapes and animals. Welcome to KASI’s AOM for November Janet Claydon. Janet says, as she is not the type of person that can talk all day, she paints to express her true self and is content when she has captured ‘life’ into her subject matter. ... Janet doesn’t really have a particular styleshe usually works to achieve expression and realism by sometimes using bold strokes, sometimes gentle strokes and then sometimes just ‘wings’ it! She mainly uses oils as she loves the smell, the feel and the texture. Many people say her work looks like a photograph, but that’s not what Janet is trying to achieve. She is trying to capture a feeling. For her AOM exhibition, Janet has put a small collection of paintings together showing a variety of subjects, including a portrait of her beautiful fair skinned niece aptly entitled ‘Bliss’. Please visit the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery during November to see Janet’s work.

13.01.2022 A light hearted and fun afternoon was held on The Lakeside Deck Friday 9th April with about 20 Friends of the Gallery (FOG) attending KASI's first Foggy Friday! Local textile artist and chocolatier Wendy Houston taught the group how to make chocolate truffles which they were then able to try or take home! Yum yum! Thank you to Wendy, all the FOGs who attended and barman Brian for looking after everyone's thirst requirements!... Foggy Fridays will be held on the 2nd Friday of each month at the Kilcoy Courthouse Art Gallery and a different topic or activity will be offered each time. It costs $5 a year to become a FOG member and benefits include information and invitations to workshops and events. In return FOG members may assist KASI with fund raising activities and events. Membership forms are available at the gallery or online at www.kilcoyart.org.au/membership.
