07.01.2022 Our competing combinations
03.01.2022 So much for Winter being the "off season"! What a full on few months we have had here at the Kilmorn Stables. Red Devil came back into work for his 8week rehab program, from his almost fatal "rogue hoof abscess" passing his 8wk evaluation with flying colours and giving his mother her smile back after a very trying 9months off. However in true Devil-child form, while gallivanting around his freshly rain soaked and slippery paddock, he managed to badly strain a muscle in his s...houlder not even 2 weeks into full work- back out for a further 2months followed by 6weeks further rehab! After some lengthy discussions, it was decided that Ally take over Gus' education from her younger sister, while Bethany was to have the ride on Rafferty Rules in order to further her own education and rider-development. Kilmorn Little Brother (Gus) and Ally seem to have come to an agreement and are training well together. This new combination is yet to see much competition, sticking to freshmans days and low key events, but should hopefully get a bit more out-and-about this coming season. Rafferty Rules and Beth gelled almost instantly, and hit the comp scene with force. After a few runs at around the 100cm mark, the partnership was looking super. Unfortunately, as the weather began to deteriorate and our arena turned into a bit of a swamp, Beth and Raffa suffered a devastating fall while working on the flat, resulting in a broken ankle for Beth and a few days of stiffness for the old man. 2months on crutches and 3months no riding (while probably a much-needed break for both horse and rider) was not seen with much favor. But the combination is now back together and focusing on their communication and taking a step back to work on some basics, even trying their hand at some dressage! And looking quite a promising prospect might I add!! Kilmorn Tempest has been living up to her name, causing her rider some frustration with her some-what erratic behavior. Typical female! However with a change to her feed and work schedule, we think we have made it through the storm. She has proved her worth over the last few weeks, jumping some decent sized tracks and showing her talent in some intensive training sessions.
