Did you know that the beauty industry alone produces 26 Billion units of waste globally every single year??! And so much of our waste ends up in water systems and the ocean. My love affair with the ocean continues. Maybe it has to do with growing up on the Australian coast, where you never seem to be more than 5km from water - be it the ocean, a river, waterfalls, creek, or bay. 03.01.2022 || KINDNESS || I think we all agree that world could use a little more kindness. Sometimes when I’m watching the news, or a documentary (which I’m addicted too!), it strikes me how much better off the world would be if leaders, both commercial and political, showed more kindness in their actions, and in their words. But what can just I do about it? You have more influence than you know. Being kind to a person can change their day, their week, and even the direction of th...eir life. Not only that, but when you treat others with kindness, you set an example and influence others to do similarly. Whether that’s how we speak to each other, taking those extra steps to bring our keep-cup and do something kind for the earth, or even our attitude of kindness to ours lives and our bodies. These actions DO get noticed by others, and if we all collectively and intentionally demonstrate kindness to each other, ourselves, and the environment, it will make a gradual change. Is that enough to change the world? I believe that if you look through any positive example of social change, environmental protection, corporate responsibility, politically humane decisions, kindness is the ingredient that links them all. It’s just a matter of scale. Maybe our daily lives don’t seem to have a direct effect on those decisions, but it was always the people’s kindness collectively, that pushed for those changes and supported them, and those who spoke out on behalf of them. Your daily kindness is a step in the right direction. Even acknowledging another who is doing good and kind work, will encourage them to keep going. 01.01.2022 | BLACKHEADS & VOLCANIC ASH CLEANSER | Do you get blackheads? I want to talk with you about the best way to deal with those annnnoying blackheads and how to get RID of them! . Firstly, what the heck causes these pesky buggers? Blackheads are caused when your pore gets blogged, either by dead skin cells, or a build up makeup, using the wrong moisturiser or general environmental pollutants (hello city-dwellers of planet Earth!). When your pores get blocked, your skins n...aturally produced oils gets trapped and dries in your pores. The head of this blockage turns a fun black colour, and you can see this on your face. This is why they are usually most common across your nose and cheeks and forehead, as this is usually the oilier part of our faces, but they can occur anywhere. . So what can we do? Some people will try to manually pinch at their skin to remove them, and there are tools that will help squeeze these guys out but - ouch! - this is NOT recommended! Most often what’s blocking the pore is still blocking it, and squeezing simply irritates your skin, and can further damage your skin barrier, leading to swollen and stretched pores that will just become clogged again, or worse lead to scarring. . The BEST solution is to exfoliate and remove whatever is blocking the pores, and then cleanse with a deep, oil based cleanser, which will attract the oil to it and dislodge it. BUT all exfoliants are NOT the same! Scrubs are too coarse, and can scratch your skin and cause unseen damage, and the particles are actually too large and too jagged. (Walnut shell is the worst!).
