12.01.2022 When a matter first comes before a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court they generally have affidavits from the parties to rely on. The reality of affidavits are that they supply background information only about each parties view of the family law situation. The court may order at first a brief family report. The reason behind this report is to provide further information and some guidance to the court as to the dynamics of the parties and their relationship with the children.... If this small report does not provide enough insight then the court may order a full family report. Again this report is to provide guidance to the court about the family. A report may provide recommendations as to how a matter should proceed and recommendations of how time should be spent with the parties and the children. These reports may be swayed by the personal view of the report writer. In reality we are all swayed by our own personal views and schemas. My thoughts going forward is be honest with the family reporter. Just be the best parent/carer you can be and let the report writer prepare a report that reflects the true dynamics of your family. 09.01.2022 As the silly season approaches our mums and dads who co-parent often have issues in relation to time with children. Our best tip is talk about these issues now. Make sure you have an agreement how the children will spend time with the other parent on Christmas Day. One option to consider is:# From 2:00pm Christmas Eve till 2:00pm Christmas day with parent 1 and from 2:00pm Christmas Day until 2:00 pm Boxing Day with parent 2.... This option allows for the child to spend this special day with both parents. The next year parents can swap the times. This is just a suggestion change the times to suit.
