25.01.2022 Weather cutting This afternoon the Wombat children joined their educator in a planned creative experience. Miss Janelle wanted to see where the children's fine motor skill were at with cutting. The children at the beginning were a little hesitant to explore the scissors but with some encouraged from their educator and support the children's self confidence grew. The children were supported by their educator as they made attempts to cut out and glue on their coloured in weather sheet. Sunny, cloudy, windy and rain were the weather cards. Just wonder if the children would be interested in creating their own sensory bottles which will represent the seasons of the year?

25.01.2022 Stamp Painting This week the children in the Joey's room had a creative exploration experience using different types of stamp patterns that they stamp into the paint tray and transfer on to their blank paper to create their stamp canvas. We had a variety of patterns for the Joey's to stamp and 2 paint colours in the tray, the children led their experience by choosing which colours and stamps they preferred to use.... This experience allows the children to lead their creativity, build in their fine motor grip and using their aware of fairness.

22.01.2022 Peanut Craft Miss Leanne found another way to play and be creative with the packing peanuts and encouraged our children from the joys group at first to touch and explore the peanuts. All children had such fun squishing them down and watching them reform. Educator then gave them a paper plate each and a brush to start spreading glue so that they could begin to stick the peanuts on. Some children found this a challenge as they had some glue on their hands and so all the peanuts began sticking on the fingers.

21.01.2022 Shape Bingo To continue on with our shape recognition and to make it more fun for the children we decided to play shape bingo with our preschool children. There were nine grids and each square had a shape, there were many shapes as circle, triangle, octagon, star, pentagon, hexagon, heart, diamond, square, rectangle, oval and trapezoid. Learning shapes not only helps children identify and organise visual information, it helps them learn skills in other curriculum areas including reading, math, and science. For example, an early step in understanding numbers and letters is to recognise their shape.

21.01.2022 R U OK DAY This morning Miss Lauren spoke with all of the Wombats about R U OK Day. With everything happening in the world at the moment it is a perfect time to sit down with the children and ask them "are you ok?". Educator have said to the Wombat's in the past "are you ok, is everything alright?" and they responded "yes I am just tired" or "no I am upset at the moment" when Miss Lauren asked "why are you upset?" they replied "because so and so won't play with me" or "so and... so is snatching and it's making me sad". We sat with all of the children and asked them "are you ok?" we sat down as a group and throughout the day and each of the children told me how they were feeling. By explaining to the children and having a discussion with them about different feelings like sadness, anger and embarrassment or even happiness the children are able to create an environment trust comfort and open expression as they learn to cope with their own feelings and the feelings of those around them. Making sure the children understand other people’s feelings is extremely important especially in group settings such as this, well with not one another is important that they recognise each other’s feelings and act upon them really have a space safe space to go to and that you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to relax by themselves for a minute or two. The children are able to create an environment trust comfort and open expression as they learn to cope with their own feelings and the feelings of those around them. The children had this discussion with Miss Lauren and came to an idea to make a group poster. While making this poster The children had more discussions about feelings and how to cope with them to cement the idea and aligns and reinforce the previous discussion with the educators. The wombats were extremely excited to engage in an activity as a group where they were able to crowd around with one another and go a bit crazy and add different textures of yellow to the poster. 20.01.2022 A - collage The kangaroos had an opportunity to do a collage for our letter A. This is another way for the Kangaroos to familiarise themselves with letters. Before the experience starts the letter, A was introduced, and each Kangaroo had to brush the glue onto their paper and ensuring to try and keep inside the line. This allows them to follow rules and encourage them to use their thinking practice. The rule to only decorate inside the line were followed and the older kangaroos were to glue and paste neatly. During the experience the kangaroos were able to use their trial and error practice, eye- hand coordination, familiarize their colours and concentration.

20.01.2022 Elmo puzzle Today the kangaroos get to connect the Elmo puzzle at the table. A large puzzle pieces that perfectly fit on the table and allows the kangaroos to stand and walk around as they connect the puzzle piece. The kangaroos work together as a team by passing the puzzle piece and give each other turn. Looking at the picture in a box is a great way and provide hint of what's the first piece and what is followed and also following the colour scheme. With little help from Miss Gina the kangaroos proudly completed the puzzle pieces. A great way to practice their words as they identified all the colours and the characters of Elmo and friends once finished. After finishing and that they were able to see the whole picture each were excited to share which character they are familiar with.

17.01.2022 Today for NAIDOC Week the children in Kindy4Kids made an abstract Aboriginal Flag. Our Wombats were busy on discussing the colours of the flag and understanding the meaning. Kangaroos were concentrating on creating their own flag collage. Children from Joeys room created wonderful fingerprints, table paintings. During this experience we talk about the three colours and what they represent. The colour Black represents the aboriginal people of Australia, the Yellow circle represent the sun and the giver of life and protector. and the Red colour represents the red earth, the red ochre used in ceremonies and Aboriginal peoples' spiritual relation to the land. This experience allows our children to show diversity with respect and give awareness of what some of the culture all about.

16.01.2022 Rain clouds Today the Wombats extended their learning about weather and rain through a science experience! The children watched a media clip of how rain clouds can be made using water and shaving foam. Miss Janelle encouraged the children to make predictions on how fast the rain would fall. Once the clip continued the children thoughts were that the rain "Came down so fast!" into the jar of water. The children then too turn making their own rain clouds. Using the required materials the children took turns making the clouds and observing the rain fall through as droplets of blue food colouring were added. The children demonstrated self confidence and regulation as they explored the experience and materials. The children were curious about the clouds and when returning t the playground were observing the sky for an clouds or rain!

16.01.2022 Little White Fish and His Daddy - group time To continue the joey’s interest and learning in Father’s Day today, Ms Jayde invited the Joeys over to sit down on the play mat, ready for a group time to read Little white fish and his daddy. As Ms Jayde was reading the story to the joeys, she spoke about the animals we could see; while encouraging the older joeys to say and identify them. The children sat very engaged throughout the story, as this was a new story for them. Once... Ms Jayde had finished reading the story, she placed the book down to the children and encouraged them to explore the book together. The children took turns at holding the book and turning the pages. The children pointed to the different animals they could see. This experience enhances animal identification, independence, following instructions, spatial awareness, listening, and sharing and hand-eye coordination. See more

13.01.2022 Australian national flag day Australian National Flag Day, proclaimed in 1996 as a national day, celebrates the first time the flag was flown on 3 September 1901. On that day Prime Minister Edmund Barton announced the winners of a competition to design a flag for Australia. A large flag, 5.5 metres by 11 metres, was flown over the dome of the Exhibition Building in Melbourne. At that time the flag was known as the Commonwealth blue ensign; later, the flag became known as the Australian National Flag. To give awareness this national event the kangaroos get to paint their own Australian flag. Using a sample template they were able to view and get an idea on what the flag looks like. Three colours were used Red, white and dark blue that they were able to recognize and identify before colouring their own flag.

11.01.2022 Happy Mother's Day!

09.01.2022 Watering our Garden The spring is here and every day our children are watering plants in our garden. Educators are filling up the watering can and allow each child to water plants Gardening with children provides them with skills to help your child's development. Young children can practice loco-motor skills, body management skills and object control skills while they move from one place to the other carrying gardening tools and water. The children were happy to wait their tu...rn as they hold the watering can independently to spray the water over the plant and soil. Taking care of a living thing builds compassion, respect, and responsibility in children. Your child will also learn to observe, ask questions, consider problems, and find solutions the beginnings of scientific thinking. This experience helps care for the environment, a sense of contributing to the world around them, learning about sustainability and how things grow.

08.01.2022 Fine motor - shoe lacing Today in the Wombats room the children all had an individual opportunity to lace our large toy shoe. This activity challenges the children to use their problem solving skills, had to eye coordination and fine motor skills and also is challenging themselves further to push the lace through the holes of the shoe. Each child sat down, concentrating to the best of their ability and pushed the lace through the shoe, each child taking up an individual pattern an style to tying their laces. The wombats showed their amazing ability to zone out and apply themselves to different activities that their educators throw at them.

06.01.2022 In the Wombats room the educators have been researching and working in collaboration to create a space for children where they can go to simple have some time on their own or to go and reflect. This space have been created in our dome, we have placed a table and chair set and some fairy lights in a jar. Baskets have been placed on the shelves which allows for children to gain a sense of agency and make the decision of what they would like to use to help them reflect. Quiet time for children is important as it encourages reflection to process new learning, allows the brain to make new connections, and provides time to recharge. Using your quiet calming space for this is ideal. This is also a time to reduce stress and anxiety from the day.

04.01.2022 Spaghetti fun Carrying on with our Spring theme and the kangaroos interest in bugs, Miss Chantelle made a sensory table using green spaghetti! Miss Chantelle poured the slimy green spaghetti into the table and put some crawly insects through it such as spiders, beetles, praying mantis and crickets. The kangaroos loved this activity and getting their hands dirty. Sensory play helps the kangaroos develop and improve their gross and fine motor skills, co-ordination and concentration. It also provides an opportunity to use all their senses to discover and explore their environment, develop their imagination and creative thinking. The kangaroos loved searching for the bugs as Miss Chantelle hide them all under the spaghetti grass. The kangaroos also loved picking up the green spaghetti and letting it slip through their little fingers.

01.01.2022 Creative Experience For creative experience we continued on from craft yesterday. We made the rest of our Astronaut outfit. We grabbed an old paint smock some glue and aluminium foil. We took it outside and began our craft. We all gathered outside at the table and children all began to paint the glue onto the smock, they then tore up pieces of the foil and stuck it onto the smock. The girls had so much making the costume. The children got to put the whole outfit together, they had so much fun in the yard playing Astronaut.
