18.01.2022 KLC has developed five comic strip sexual harassment scenarios with corresponding conversation points to help illustrate exactly what sexual harassment behaviour is, and how hurtful it can be, to be used by teachers or youth workers in their discussions with students. The comics target young people on the cusp of employment educating them on appropriate workplace behaviour using comic strips as discussion points. The comics were developed thanks to a grant from the Womens Wellbeing Program UNSW Sydney. 17.01.2022 The government's reply falls significantly short of a commitment to fully implement all 55 recommendations put forth by Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins in the Respect@Work report. For the roadmap to respond effectively to her damning findings, it must deliver radical change to ensure workplace equality in reality.

16.01.2022 Content note: This post discusses sexual harassment, sexual assault and child sexual assault. When other people don’t say it’s not OK, how is it going to stop? If his friends are telling him it’s OK, and the girl is too afraid to talk about it, the silence continues. Our lawyer Anita Will speaks with the Guardian Australia about the importance of early intervention education programs to address sexual harassment. Kingsford Legal Centre delivers the #MeToo: It’s About You program to high school students to start age-appropriate conversations about sexual harassment and educate young people about their rights and responsibilities.

06.01.2022 With the passing of that great Australian hero Jack Mundey last year Bayside Council graciously accepted my suggestion to rename Eastlakes Reserve in his honour.... Had it not been for Jack’ and his leadership and the Builders Labourers Federation placing a Green Ban on that area there would be a mass of apartment buildings rather than a park. It would be difficult to imagine Eastlakes without Eastlakes Reserve I had the great honour of talking with Judy Mundey, Jacks wife, about the Green Bans that rescued so much of Sydney heritage and environment including Eastlakes Reserve. Her recollection of this pivitoal time in our local history is fascinating. Have a listen.

06.01.2022 Migrant workers in Australia are being targeted for exploitation, with almost 9 in 10 job ads in languages other than English advertising rates below the minimum award wage. Migrant workers should not be forced to accept illegally low rates of pay to survive. They should be paid a fair and legal wage for their work, and have access to income support.
