19.01.2022 **FREE DENTAL CHECKS FOR AUGUST** August is dental month and we are offering FREE dental checks for the whole month, plus you will also go in to the draw to win a dental hamper for your dog or cat!! According to the Australian and American Veterinary Dental Societies, more than 80% of dogs and 70% of cats develop gum disease by the age of three. Some common signs of gum disease include: - bad breath - inflamed gums... - broken teeth - reluctance to eat (in some cases) Plaque and tartar contain a multitude of bacteria and toxins that can spread to other parts of the body. Gum disease can lead to infections in the kidney, heart and liver, and even fractured jaws. Despite causing pain and discomfort, peridontal disease can often go undetected for years. Annual dental check-ups and ongoing dental care can prevent some of the serious side effects of gum disease. Call the Kingston Animal Hospital today to book your FREE dental check on 6229 5900 See more

19.01.2022 Attention Rabbit Owners! We have recently confirmed a case of RHDV2 (a pathogenic calicivirus strain first recorded in Australia in 2015) in the Kingston area. This is a different virus to the one that was released in 1995. RHDV-2 is known to be present in Tasmania. This is the strain that entered Australia unexpectedly - it is not one of the strains that has been and is being released by Departments throughout Australia to control wild rabbits. The available vaccine is o...nly partially effective against RHDV-2 - an off-label vaccination regime is recommended at six monthly intervals with initial vaccination of kittens at 4, 8 and 12 weeks of age. BIOSECURITY is the MOST important method of control keeping rabbits inside or protected from wild rabbits by a double fence, not feeding grass that wild rabbits may have contacted, insect proofing enclosures/hutches, and thorough disinfection of all exposed areas/enclosures if there is confirmed infection. Please contact us if you would like any further information on vaccination or other control procedures. See more

09.01.2022 As everybody will be well aware by now, the coronavirus COVID-19 has well and truly spread throughout the world, and although we are more fortunate than most being in Tasmania, we still (and especially) need to be vigilant in our efforts to reduce it’s impact. We know that is an uncertain and scary time, but would like to reassure you that we are still open for the care and support of all of our valued clients and their animals. We will operate as normally as possible within... the restrictions that are imposed on us all. We have adopted the following measures based on the recommendations from the Australian Veterinary Association, Veterinary Board of Tasmania and state and federal governments, and will continue to do so. If you are unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, or are under quarantine, please do not bring your pet into the hospital. Find a friend or family member who is well to help you. Being a veterinary hospital, we are very used to cleaning but we have greatly increased the frequency and use of disinfectants that will inactivate COVID-19. Please limit the people who come with you when you come in to the hospital (including children) due to the social distancing requirement. If possible, could they please wait in the car. You can also wait in the car and we can come to collect your pet from the car and bring them in to the hospital to examine a concierge service, if you like! We are still able to utilize the waiting room but can only allow one person per bench seat only, again for social distancing. If you are just interested in collecting food or medication, please phone us before you arrive if possible so that we can minimise your waiting time. If you can prepay for food or medication over the phone that would also be appreciated. Unfortunately at this time we will not be able to provide a house call service for pets, but most large animal calls will be as normal. As with most outlets now, please avoid paying with cash card, telephone payment or bank transfer is preferred. Even at times like these we treasure all our clients and will do everything that we can to provide the best service for you and your pets. We thank you all for your understanding at this difficult time. We all need to work together against this problem! See more
